The reason I hate to see this is based on personal experience. I had two sacs present themselves. One pup delivered, text book whelp...Lots of pushing and a couple of hours later no pup, took her to the vet.the 2nd had its chin caught on the it's mother's pelvic bone. The pup was delivered by normal means with the assistance of the vet. He inserted a tube filled with lubricating jelly and out popped the pup. Alive and screaming.
But in my whelping book it states that it is not unusual for a Dam to take long naps with one or more water bags ust lying at the vulval with occasional contractions for two or three hours and still be okay. If she is pushing steadily for an hour with no results and nothing is in the vaginal canal, you should get in touch with your vet. |
