| Bulging eye in puppy My puppies are going on 8 days old (Wed) and tonight after work I noticed what looks like a bulging eye on 1 puppy. I didn't see it today when I went to work The other eye and other puppies eyes look normal. The eyes haven't opened yet. Does anybody know what this could be? I read online that I could use a warm cotton ball and this would open the eye, but don't want to do anything just yet until I get some advice. Thanks ya'll |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Sometimes they get an infection during birth or being stepped on by litter mates. The vet will prescribe antibiotic cream.

| I hope the pup will be okay. I did have a pup years ago that got an eye infection in one eye before the eyes opened and we put antibiotic cream on it and the eye was just fine afterwords. I know hydrocephalus (water on the brain) can cause eye bulging but hopefully it is nothing like that. |

| ~Just got back from the Vet. He said it was not the actual eye, but right outside the eye. Was filled w/pus, said he thinks it was caused by trauma. Possibly by the other puppies being aggressive w/each other when mommy is with them. He did give her antibiotics and squeezed the pus out. It looks better now, but he said I have to do this 3 times a day for a few days just to make sure it all gets out. I have never heard of anything like, much less experience it. | Tonight when I got home from work, the eye looked so-ooo much better, actually more normal looking. I still tried to see if I could gently squeeze any pus out, and nothing came out. OMG- I am just so happy it was nothing really serious. In the morning, I'll check out the puppies nails, probably will have to file down. _______________ cheryl |

| I am glad your puppy's eye is okay and it was just a scratch. I would watch it closely to make sure the eye lid doesn't close back up with infection inside the eyelid. You want the inner corner of the eye to stay open so the infection can drain. |

| I just re read your post and see that the infection was actually outside of the eye, I mis read your post after the vet visit that the infection was not actually in the eye. Hope the puppy is already healing. |

| Poor baby. I'm sure he will be just fine now that you have the meds. Good luck.
