Nope...way too many red flags for me. Breeding "teacups"--there is no such thing and reputable breeders would never breed to purposely try to produce extremely small dogs. Breeding way too many different breeds, multiple litters in a short time frame. I would pass. IMO, there is no sense in supporting a bad breeder and taking a chance when there are many reputable breeders out there you could choose instead.

I meant to come back here, and lost the site and it took me forever to find it. The email where I joined was in my junk, I finally found it. And yes, I am in Ky., and have been looking close to me for a dog, I wouldn't want to travel far.

I do thank everyone for their responses. After checking around a bit more,I don't know if we will even get a Yorkie. Especially after all the responses on here,too. I don't think I can find a "good" one. They require quite a bit of care, the grooming is more than I (or my wife) had counted on, after doing some research. I just don't know.

I was just about ready to buy from that site, the dogs were so cute!! I can't believe they don't even have those dogs!!! Someone said they were of someone else's dog!! Until I done the research the last few weeks, I thought that a "home" type breeder would be a good thing. Now, I think a "rescue" dog would be better than buying one that may have problems and from this type of breeder, you don't really know. And I thought that the more one breeds dogs, well, the more they would know! I know, I know, my wife calls me a dummy,too!

To the lady that lives in Ky., would you happen to know of a good place to maybe adopt a Yorkie? One that is healthy?

Also, how do you "find" good breeders? From what I've found online and in newspapers, they're mostly breeders like this one.

Go up to post #15 in this thread and PM Sugarsmom. She is a well-respected breeder from KY. She is very knowlegeable and best of all she puts her puppies' welfare first. She might be a few hours drive from you, but worth the trip. I don't know how long you might have to wait for a puppy as she does not breed all the time, but again.....worth the wait.

Good luck. Glad you did not take offense when it was wondered if you could be the breeder. Yes, we have had that happen many times before. Most often when there is a complaint, then they will sign in as several different people and commend themselves until they get caught and banned from the site.

Also don't let all of the care and grooming dissuade you from the most loving breed I have ever known. They make it all worthwhile! You can keep them in a puppy cut (short hair) to make grooming easier. They still do require more maintenance than your average dog -- but they are so worth it!

For starters, stop looking in newspapers. Not saying that good breeders don't use them from time to time, but that is going to likely be a rare instance. There are many ways to find reputable breeders--it's really not as hard as people make it out to be, they just have to put forth the effort.
* ask for referrals from others on this site
* visit the YTCA site for a list of referred breeders
* attend some local conformation events and introduce yourself
* check out some handling classes in your area
* see if there is a local kennel club in your area

Many people don't want to deal with reputable breeders because they feel like it's a hassle. Ethical breeders will be extremely picky in screening potential homes for their pups and will likely have agreements (including spay/neuter requirements) that they expect to be signed--all to protect them, the new owner and most importantly, the dog. They also may have waiting lists. Although these are all very GOOD things, many people are turned off by them--they want a dog NOW, that they can pay for and get with no questions asked by the breeder.
