This Makes me Angry!!!!! Okay here is what happened this morning. The first week in August we have a huge yard sale that goes on our major highway thru ALA, TENN, Ky and on northward. I am having trouble with my show dog being fearful suddenly so I had a bright idea to put his show bow and show lead on and go walk around a little before it gets to hot. i went to one of the sales just up from my house. it is out on a big farm in a field and they had about one hundred or so vendors set up. Like a big flea market. I parked my car and got myself and my dog out and heard this little yappy dog. The very first stall I came to they were selling puppies. Chi's, Shztu's and YORKIES. The man looked at Cash and said I have one that looks like him. I asked to see him and he was a rag but had the same coloring and etc that cash has. Very ragged and dirty looking. I asked him what his bloodline is and the man just shrugged his shoulders. He said not many people even ask and asked me if I knew what Cash's line is. I said, "you better believe it and for what I paid for him, it's a good one." They had signs posted. The yorkies were 350, chi's 250 and shiztu'z 250. They were all pretty little dogs and all were clean except the yorkies. NO PAPERS. He also had parti's and Biewers at home, he said. But I just walked on shaking my head. It is no wonder people like me and the other breeders on here are seeing a decrease in puppy sales. No one wants a nice puppy. They want cheap. I told him I had a pup for sale and he asked how much (Not that I would EVER sell to someone like him) and he nearly gagged on his coffee when I told him. I also told him all I do for my puppies. he couldn't believe it. I have a little tiny male puppy for sale but I wouldd keep him forever rather than let him go to someone like this or even that cheap. On the other side of it, I do hope someone comes along and buys the puppies today. it is going to be near 100 degrees here. |
That is very upsetting. I don't know why there are not laws against selling puppies at flea markets or in pet stores. They have laws against it in the UK. He is obviously a puppy miller to have so many breeds. Sound like he has never even seen a show dog. |

He might have bveen from MO. But I guess there are puppy mills everywhere. |
That is so sad:( |
I can understand how you felt Dee. I saw my first "puppies for sale" at a flea market just a few miles from me. No Yorkies, but the cutest little puppies...terriers of some sort. I was so upset to see these puppies in a crate on the tailgate of their truck. I was with my mother and as we walked by, Mom said "they have puppies" and I just told her that we weren't even going to look. Makes me too sad to think that they would just sell to anyone off the street. |
So sad. :( |
We used to see puppies for sale at just about every flea market in Florida and I hated it. Those poor little things were barely weaned for the most part...it was hot...some had no water and the cages were usually crowded and dirty. They had absolutely no regard for who bought their pups...just who had the money to buy them. I watched a young girl purchase a super tiny Chi puppy one day...it made me sick...the lady kept saying it would be a pocket puppy, barely 1 pound and it was 12 weeks old. Well...you could look at the poor thing and tell it wasn't anywhere near 12 weeks! |
Those puppies were probably in the shade under a tree but hot is hot. The last time my husband and I sat down at Taco Bell to grab a taco we looked out the window at the Walmart parking lot. There was a big white truck with a handwritten cardboard sign. "Free Boxers". They must have had 7 or 8 little puppies and the mother dog in the back end of the truck. It was 95 degrees and they were in the sun. The lady was carrying an umbrella to protect her from the sun. It appeared to be a family (man, woman, teenage boy). The puppies were cute but my thought was...why did they have to spend their last afternoon with those cruddy people like that. I wanted to get a couple of them but I know how difficult it would be to find a home for dogs like that. They looked like boxer/lab mixes and we all know the dog pounds are filled with lab mixes. |
The flea markets are really one of the worst places that have the furbabies for sale its really hard to see the babies there so vulnerable.:( |
This just makes me wanna cry. Poor little helpless babies. Hopefully someone will take them to a furever home:animal-pa |
Ive seen pups at flea markets when its very hot too. Its sad and I think it should be illegal |
This and other stupid people treating puppies like this break my heart.:( |
That is awful! You see why good quality yorkies are hard to sell, people think well I can buy one for $400.00, why would I buy yours for $2000.00. Most do not understand what they are even buying! But will be the first to complain when there cheaper yorkie starts to have problems! I see people around here with puppies for sale{not yorkies} sitting along the road or in parking lots on really hot days, selling them for $100.00. |

The man about fell over when I told him what I want for this little male I have for sale. he said is it because he will be a tiny one and I told him no it is because he is a high quality puppy. he didn't seem to understand that concept. I am advertising my guy several places except here where he is too young yet, but nearly everyone wants a girl or a three-four hundred dollar puppy. It ain't happening at my house.:) |
people minus hearts. I understand that people think prices are high on yorkies, but let these people understand the heartbreak of having one who is sick and later dies because it was a bargain. Look into the class-act breeders and save yourself heartbreak and more pain for a helpless puppy-sigh |

I made the mistake of advertising my yorkie pups in the Columbus Dispatch. I got alot of weirdo's calling. "I'll give you $350 for him" or "Will you come down on your price?" Ummmm... No!! PASS!!! ugh!! If they'd only realize that these dogs will bring them a LIFETIME of love, loyalty and companionship. If you break the price down year by year over their lifetime, what is that? Maybe $66 a YEAR...? You can't put a price tag on the love and devotion a yorkie will give you. $66.00 is CHEAP, if you ask me. A lifetime of Yorkie kisses, snuggling, laughs.... yeah... EVERY BIT worth the money I paid for mine. I have a sign in my office that says "The more people I meet, the more I like my dog." How true. |

They don't ask a thing about me or the dogs or how they were raised. Just 'how much" |

It is just so hard, because those peuppies need loving hnomes too. Sad Sad Sad.:(:( |
hmmmm- wouldnt it be great if breeders could blindfold the customers, tell them all about their puppies and then let them see them??? i learned to ask questions because i had a dear puppy who died at age 2 she was my heart , but came from a rescue from missouri, she never licked, and never wagged her tail--people should know these are living breathing selfless beings who just want to love us |

This is what makes me angry!!!!!!!!!! I never once asked about price when looking into getting a pup and I got something less than what I paid or was willing to pay...!!!! |

I don't understand? |

I was willing to pay $2000 for a female.... |
Ok, I understand now! I am not saying that $2000.00 will ensure anyone of getting a better puppy, I am just saying it seems that when you tell someone a price, if it is beyond there budget, and they don't want to know why the puppy is high. They just want a puppy and they use a budget to determine buying a puppy, when the price should be the last question asked. |

Dee, I just seen the same thing at our local church rummage  I was shocked to say the least, The pups were in a childs play pen and it was hot. I kept right on walking, I knew if i stoped , well Idk, :( I dont like to judge anyone but lets just say, They were not breeders :( I thought about those babies all day and night...I never did see a price. |
yep i know how you feel. its people that want a cheap dog that make puppy mills. If its to good to be true it usually is. |
I have learned this lesson the hard way. We are young and have two yorkies that are way below standard and they are healthy. But now after communicating with my newest pups breeder I understand all the costs and the quality of the dog that I am buying. It is a completely different experience working with someone who wants to better the breed and works hard to produce good quality pups, rather than someone who is looking for the money. I am still learning but I am in love with the breed and I can now understand the importance of good breeding and have learned far more information about the breed through my pups breeder than I have with owning my other two yorkies. |
