It's TIME!!! Puppy Watch...
 
Well it seems as if my little Roxy is in the early stages of labor. Her temp is down to 98.1, she's been nesting in her whelping box, panting, pacing back and forth, and is really needy..

I've got all my supplies prepped and ready to go and I have print outs of all the literature I've found on the internets as well as here, to help me with the whelping. It is my first one and i'm a bit overwhelmed!

Here's hoping everything goes well... we are expecting five puppies!

Woohoo!!!! I just posted to your post on the August litter thread. She sure sounds like she's on her way...............but it could still drag on til the wee hours of the morning, as I'm sure you're well aware.:rolleyes: For your sake and Roxy's I hope it's sooner rather than later. Wow..............5 new little ones before you know it! How awesome is that?!!!!!!!!:p:p

Yeah, i've had to set puppy pads all over my room (where her whelping box is) because she'll get out of the box and try to poop... even though nothing comes out. I'm seriously hoping it's not that LONG of a night.. but I'm in it for the long haul!

Yes, throwing up is normal. Also the potting is normal. It sounds like she is getting close. I pray your momma has a safe whelping.

Ok, i'm freaking a bit.. she's not pushing she's not grunting but there is a sack that is comin out. It's not all the way out just the tip.. Do i help? It's been like that for about a minute maybe longer

OMG............I step out to do some GE shopping and come back to a bouncing baby boy! And a day whelp to boot. Congratulations! One down.......4 to go:D What's going on now; it's not unusual to go a couple of hours between pups so we could go into the evening hours with 5 puppies..................or she could go quickly like another whelp did earlier this week.
Way to go Roxy........keep up the good work:)

Well, so much for going into the evening...........again, WAY TO GO ROXY!!!!!! :)

Holy moley:eek:! Looking at the time on your posts..........are you saying that she had 3 pups in less than 10 minutes?

Okay, looked at the posts closer..................but still, 3 puppies in 15-20 minutes.............that is speedy! :)

Exciting!! :D Must be like little torpedos coming out that quick!! Are you cutting the cords or is mamma doing that?

One girl is 3 oz and the other is 4 oz

I was able to get to two of the cords... the one i didn't get to, she cut a bit too close and it bled a bit.. but, she's ok.

and yes, they are like torpedos.. she's getting a rest right now for the remaining two

I'm so glad to hear that your whelp is going so well. Sounds like they are nice healthy sizes too. Do you have them nursing now.......are they latching on okay? Can't wait to see the little sweeties.:p

see now that's my concern.. they aren't nursing yet.. and honestly i can't see if she's lactating.. any advice on what to look for and do would be greatly appreciated.

You are so fortunate...we have seen some pretty rough times here. I think y'all who breed are either well versed or crazy.....OR maybe a little of both?

ok, momma is VERY tired and still has two more to go... do i give her an egg? do I give her nutrical? suggestions?

Oooo it makes me nervous to give advice like this; I'm not much more experienced than you are. But I have read that a bit of nutrical is helpful and/or a little vanilla ice cream is good....how much exactly, IDK. I do think it's okay for her to rest; they can go two hours between pups. As long as she is resting & not in distress.
The pups don't need to nurse right away, but latching on and nursing does help mom with contractions. Can you get them to latch on......again not exactly sure how to do that except to try.

Yes, give her some Nutri-cal. Sometimes they will take a hour or so break after delivering several puppies. She probably delivered all the pups out of one horn and it might take awhile to work the other two down. As for nursing, keep trying to get the pups to attach. The mom might no have a lot of milk now but she should have colostrum. The pups suckling will help bring down the milk. When mom is resting between pups I like to let the pups nurse because that will help with the contractions. As soon as the mom starts to delivery another pup I always move the others to the side and keep them in a small blanket.

Oh good, sounds like my advice was fairly correct. I probably remembered it from one of your previous posts for another YT member. :) Guess I'm learning:D

Dang she had her puppies really fast. Congrats on the little ones! Can't wait to see the little ones.
