OMG! You have the "S" word? That means some cool weather will be coming our way. Isn't it early this year for "S" ???

MntSnowBabies 10-01-2009 01:49 PM

I'm so glad. The "S word" has gone!!! Its not really early where I live. We could get at least another "S" storm here, and then by halloween it will stick to the ground. I think my Raeley is glad that its gone. Now her PG belly doesn't hit the "S word".

carmen in nj 10-01-2009 02:05 PM

we had some drizzle here but stil cold, too cold for the first day of october..at this rate the lake is going to freeze in no time, I live one block off the largest lake in New Jersey.. I guess my son is going to be happy he and his alaskan malamute can go dog sledding earlier this year ..LOL

Mom2TwoYorkies 10-01-2009 02:27 PM

OMG I would totally freak if I saw the S word falling . . . it's been cold here all day long . . .my house is 60 degrees and our motto is . . ."no heat till Trick or Treat" so amongst some random complaints from my upstairs dwellers (kids) I remind them of the motto . . .then I tell them to dress in layers . . .:p

Oh man I would freeze in your house even with layers on!!! I can't keep heat very well in my body, I got that from my mother. Thank goodness we have a coal/wood stove. I like to keep my house at least 75-80 degrees during the cold times. My hubby hates it cause he can't sleep at night, but it feels so good to me and the dogs.

Hey Sweetest1307! Just wondering how your new set of x-rays went yesterday? How is the mamma doing? Any puppies make a suprise appearance yet?

HannahandMo 10-03-2009 12:36 PM

My babies will be ready to go home next week. Does that count for an October litter

johnnagraham 10-03-2009 12:49 PM

Hey everyone!! Guess what!!! I had the FIRST October litter! Carly had her babies yesterday!!! Yup, she actually had to have a csection! :(

Took her for xrays Friday morning and still showed 3 very healthy babies...yes very healthy...meaning fat! lol The Vet did the finger check and said she was starting to dilate and was in fact in labor already. Dr said she would have them over the weekend so I was ready! Well come Sat morning I woke up around 8:30 to take her out and she was fine then after a while I layed back down and fell back asleep for a bit well at around 10ish she was on my bed barking at me and getting my attention to wake up like she had to go somewhere...as soon as I closed my eyes she would do it again, I tested her for a bit to make sure she was doing what I thought she was then I called the Vet's office they were open til noon so they told me to go in. Sure enough she was in labor and needed to have a csection because the babies were just too big for her to pass according to the attending doc that day...it wasn't my normal Vet.

I was excited though because they let us go in and watch the entire thing! Yup we saw everything! She had 3 very healthy BOYS!!! Yes, all boys!

The boys weighed a whopping 5oz, 4.8oz and 4.7oz! Themz some big boyz!

They have today lost weight but this evening I have managed to help them nurse more then they had been because mom is a licker and she was just licking them so hard she was licking them off her teats. She is doing better now and I think her motherly instincts are kicking in even more, I know it was hard at first since she didn't give birth but she is becoming a great momma. I of course have been camped out here next her her bed making sure pups are ok. Mom has a tendency to step on or lay on them but I hope she will realize soon enough that doing that is dangerous and a no no.

I love my Yorkies even though I am now out numbered by boys! :p

Congratulations. Nice average, healthy sized boys......

Wrenee4 10-04-2009 08:33 PM

Congrates! They are all very nice sizes :)

sweetest1307 10-04-2009 10:24 PM

Worried?

Carly will not leave my side, its day two & she insists on being in bed with me, should I sleep in the closet which is already just feet away from my bed??? Not sure what's wrong with her she's been panting, I gave her nutrical & chicken broth & that seemed to help but I'm concerned because she should be with her babies not with me! Do you think its because of the csection? Does she just not want to be alone? How can I fix this?

We have a Vet appt in the afternoon but I'm wondering if I should make it for the day???

Mom of 3 10-05-2009 05:46 AM

I had a dachshund once that had a c-section and I had to feed her babies for the first 2-3 days, as she was so sore. Then she took over. I don't know why she stays with you, unless it's because of what she has just been through and feels comforted to be with you. I think her instincts will kick in. I would talk to the Doc this afternoon. Prayers.

Where are people getting those teeny collars for the new borns? I'd like to order some!

That pic was adorbale, btw. Congrats!

sweetest1307 10-05-2009 07:19 AM

The collars are just ribbon with pieces of velcro because I figure they are going to grow so fast & I didn't want them to chew up yarn. I got Halloween themed & some Fall themed. When they start walking I plan to put bells on their collars.

I had more problems with Carly last night she carried her babies into my bedroom twice tried to find a place to hide them & they baby was crying so bad it woke myself & my husband up. I had to bring my daughter for a Dr's appt & she cried a lot when I left & she's never done that, she has really bad separation anxiety now, she follows me all over the house! I hope the dr can help, I think I might have to bottle feed the babies only the two smallest have gained weight the biggest one has lost even more weight. She isn't feeding them, I'm having to force them on to her nipple & keep her still, she even sits & walks on them it scares me.

MntSnowBabies 10-05-2009 08:06 AM

Just look at those little fatties!!! Their so cute!!

As for momma not wanting to stay with the babies, she might still be sore and wanting your comfort. Is there a way to can lock her in with her babies with like an xpen? That way she can't leave her babies or drag them around the house. Hope the vet appointment goes well!

Thanks so much for the collar advice! Could someone tell me how long to make them for newborn? In inches maybe? Or centimetres?

I haven't made any (really cute idea though), but I would say 3-4 inches. Depending on the pups neck size.

millies mum 10-09-2009 10:37 AM

october litter

Started taking Millies temperature, hopefully puppies here soon. She has not looked or gone to her bed like she did on her first litter she just seems to be taking things as normal, and is still eating lots, I can hear 2 heartbeats. DAY 59.

sandybobb 10-11-2009 04:44 AM

58 days

I started taking NaTasha's (Toshi's) temp 3 days ago. She was 99.9; then 99.5; then 99.7 and yesterday she was 98.7 in the morning. I freaked and thot, here we go!!!! But after a few hours it was back up to 99 and then to 100.3 by bedtime. Guess she's just practicing... This is the first time I've taken temps to determine labor. Toshi went into labour last year, while I was at work and my daughter was home with her.... and noone knew (no panting, no distress, nothing) until I came home from work and she started pushing. She had 5 pups. 4 born dead b/c of detached placentas and 1 made it a few weeks, but we lost her as well (Taylor - RIP). NaTasha was so despondent and became so dehydrated that I almost lost her too. But vet says all is going well, and we have xrays planned for Tues. I've been monitoring her very closely afraid she will withhold again - so everyone in the house is learning to take her temp!!! Hope to have xray pix to post soon.

topknot 10-11-2009 06:23 AM

My champion girl is due on the 18th (63 day). We have plans to take her back to the bets this week for another check up. I just do not want anything going wrong this time and want to make sure vets are ready. Last time we had an emergency visit - pup was trying to go up into the other horn and got stuck in a U shape. We lost her after 5 days old, she was just too weak. We still have the other girl and what a character! So hoping all goes well this time.

sweetest1307 10-12-2009 11:06 PM

I'm having trouble & worried about the runt who happened to be the biggest when born, he's now the smallest and I'm having to bottle feed the two smallest until their tails heal. I have one who is a porker he is already over 7oz and only 10 days old today! Lol hope everyone is doing good! Take care & talk to you soon! :D

My November litter is an October litter

Hello

After an emergency c-section my Izzie is a proud mommy of 1 little girl (another little girl did not survive. They were born on 10/18/09

sandybobb 10-21-2009 03:24 AM

My little girl hits her 63 day (from second tie) today. Her temp hasn't dropped below 99.5 in a few days now. She is as big as a house and we believe she will have 4-5 puppies. I wish I could do something to get her started... she has become so uncomfortable. But still eating normally - just lying around a lot and digging in her bed. Her milk came in Monday - so I know we're close!!!!
