				   | What age do you guys usually retire your male? I've got a chance to buy a pretty nice male but he just turned 6. Would I be able to use him for a while still or should he just be retired to a pet home? Whitney |

				   | AKC rules state I think after the age of 11 or 12 any breedings must be witnessed by a Vet. I don't think a dog should be used for stud at that age.

I liken it to when I got pregnant, I was so excited and then when it came close to the time to deliver, I'd think.......what did I get myself into, I can't back out of this. Same thing with my girls.

				   | Personally I retire my girls before the age of 7, and I had retired TNT, who is now almost 9. However, time flies and I stupidly hadn't saved back a son.. and decided I better be doing that. So I used him on 2 females a while back, hoping for a special little boy or two to keep for myself. So far, they're looking pretty good! TNT is my main man, so he will continue to stay here with me. He's enjoying re-retirement, and he's terribly demanding for treats... LOL OP I don't think I would start with a 6 year old stud, and let him go to a pet home. |
