Congrats on the babies! Sorry to hear about the little one . . .:( The little man with the feet . . .did the vet say there was a cause for that? I hope things continue to go well with the mama and all her pups! :D |
No he didn't say what the cause was. He just thinks it's a birth defect, but he did say there was a good chance they would improve some on their own. I hated losing that tiny baby but she was just SO little, not even half the size of the others. Dr. Loper said that she may have had other birth defects, so at least she didn't suffer long. The other 3 babies are fat as butterballs and Diva doesn't even act like she had surgery. Her incision looks great and she is a fantastic mom. Even the little male is fiesty and strong. I'm blessed to have had the outcome I did. Breeding is hard and can break your heart. You have to go into it with open eyes. Thankfully I have a healthy mom and 3 puppies. |
I've had an experience with a baby with twisted feet. It could be many things, but I can tell you that waiting for weeks is a mistake. At this point, the bones have not set and are more like cartledge than bone. This means you have a window of opportunity to help them along but it needs to be done before the bones set. Dr. Battley in Pascagoula is an orthopedic vet and also the very best place to go is the Veterinary Referral center in Mandeville but you will need a referral. If you want, you can call me at (228) 214-5069 and i could tell you of my experience with this issue. Jim |
Thank you Jim. I will call you as soon as I am able to leave work this evening. We are not allowed to talk on cell phones at work. Thank you. Theresa |

Congrats on the babies! I'm sorry about the little tiny girl. I hope there is something you can do for the little guy's twisted legs- I agree with Jim, waiting for a few weeks is probably a bad idea, because the pup's legs could be set in that position for good. I love the pics of everyone, and Diva looks like such a great mom! She's very beautiful too :) As for me, Roxie's temp drop was a false alarm!! She always sleeps in bed with me and leaves once or twice to go pee on the piddle pad.. (I have stairs at my bed for her) anyway, in the middle of the night she returned to bed from what I assume was a pee-pee break. She woke me up as she was snuggling next to me and I rubbed her belly and it was cold! That's when I posted here. A few minutes later her belly turned hot again. At this point I was thinking, what the heck? Roxie left the bed a couple hours later and didn't return for a while so I went to find her and she was downstairs, sleeping belly-up in front of the air conditioner. (No central air in the basement) Sigh! I guess she was just too warm under the covers with me. She got my hopes up, though. She's acting completely normal today so we probably have a few days to go.. |
It's amazing how much they are like humans. I can't stand to be hot either. |
Roxie That is funny. She knew exactly how to cool off. I hope your baby comes soon. Waiting is so stressful. |
ranant12 - Congratulations on the arrival of Diva's puppies. She is so pretty and looks like such a good little mama. I am sorry that the whelp didn't go smoothly, as we of course always hope that they do. I will say a prayer that the little boys back feet can be corrected and for the tiny girl you lost. Hugs to all of you. |
It hard to believe that we are just a week away from the first tie. Avery is still jumping on thing which is hard to believe Lola couldnt jump up on the sofa when she just had one week left. She is getting bigger and I felt a little movement but not much I really hope there is not only one puppy. It scares me. I have read read and read some more but I really dont think anything can keep the nerves down. Lola was great with her litters and I have no idea how Avery is going to act this is her first litter with me. Avery is a very calm yorkie but I am so worried. Christina Oh I am so happy for everyone and this new puppies so far this Aug. |

Hey Jim, I'm sorry that I did not call last night. The last part of the day got really hectic yesterday and I left your phone number on my desk. We currently do not have internet at home due to a computer problem. Anyway, i was hoping I could call during one of my breaks today. Is there a good time? The little male puppy's feet are looking a little better. He does put them up under and push just like the other pups do. He has good movement in both feet. When I hold him on his back he curls them up to him in the correct position. I appreciate you helping me with this. |
Roxie is due today!! Day 63.. I'm really thinking she still has a ways to go. Maybe even until this weekend. She's still acting like her normal self, temp still high, etc. How many days overdue is TOO many? When should I start getting concerned? I hope she goes into labor soon. Late tonight or late Thurs night would be perfect. I have class this evening and not again until Thursday evening. |

Thank you Barb. I put Roxie into her whelping kennel before I left for class this evening. I added her doggy bed so she'd be more comfortable, and a pee-pad. When I got home, I gave the kennel a once-over and I noticed that she didn't use the pee-pad, but peed a few times on the heating pad cover, instead. (Hah) But there was also a spot of bloody discharge? About the size of a nickel. It looked mucousy with red tinges in it. Is this normal?? I've never seen anything but clear discharge from her. Her belly feels merely warm now, compared to the super hot she's been.. I'm going to try to relax her and take her temperature. It will really put my mind at ease. I hope she doesn't put up a huge fight like she has in the past! I'll be back with the temp if I'm successful... |
