I see here in the pregnancy time line to becareful b/c this is the time she is most suspectable to birth defects, i have looked online but dont find much info on it. How do I avoid any type of birth defect? anything to look out for? food/activities etc... they say it only lasts about 1.5 weeks. Please if an experienced breeder can give me more about this I would appreciate it!

My recommendation is to feed her a high quality dog food during pregnancy, do not add a lot of supplements to her diet, avoid chemicals, like flea medications and any cleaning products and do not allow her to get over heated.

Over heat... Hummm.. Its summer & in FL, Im sure we all know the heat, so I guess that means a quick walk & come right home!!! Poor child :( Her longer walks at night! I will read the article, thanks

hijack: Is it safe to supplement with a multi vitamin if you are having problems with the bitch eating?

I honestly do not know because I have never had that problem. How far along is she? Was she a picky eater before getting pregnant?

She is 37 days from first tie. She was not a big eater before but ate enough for me not to worry to much. Now she will not eat her dry kibble at all. She use to love when I added a little canned with it but now won't touch it. The only thing she will eat is sometimes things off my plate. If she thinks I am eating it she is more interested. So I been sharing my dinner with her. I am afraid she is not getting a balanced diet. I was thinking if maybe a multi vitamin may be good for her.

That would be my concern too that she is not getting a balanced diet. What kind of kibble are you feeding and what kind of canned food? Mine are on either Canidae or the Chicken Soup Puppy and I add a little canned Pedigree. Have you tried the new canned Pedigree Healthy Digestion? Mine love that. I give them little bits as a treat sometimes. You might try grinding up the dry food and mixing the canned food and make little dog food meat balls. Some people add a little cottage cheese or hard boiled eggs or scrambled eggs. Sometimes just a tad bit of Nutri-cal might spark their appetite. I know you worry about her. Just keep encouraging her to eat the good stuff.

Have you consulted your vet? I had one female that refused to eat past 35 days into pregnancy... we tried every home made recipe but she was just too nauseous to eat ... vet visit ... fixed problem. He gave me "science diet a/d" and she loved it... it is a very rich food.. prescription available only. I have used for different situations through the years. I wean my puppies with it sometimes. It is as i said very rich and may be fattening. what we did was to start with the a/d then mixing a little of the dry kibbles... soon she was back eating the dry kibbles with the a/d mixed in...
Ask the vet.. he may have a good advice worth to be followed.
