There is a lot of hard work that goes into socialization and growing coat before a handler takes a dog. I know many owners will show the dogs themselves and get all the single points and turn the dog over to a handler for the majors. A dog has to win two majors of 3 points or more to complete their championship and in some areas majors are hard to find so you just about have to send your dog with a handler or plan on doing a lot of traveling. The majors are determined by the number of dogs entered and some areas take more dogs than in other areas to get a major. It take 15 points for a dog to become a champion.

There are some handlers that will take your dog at ringside but they don't usually do that unless your dog is already well trained.

I don't want free lesson hehehehe. I just want to learn and It's better if the handler live close. I'm in VA so NC, MD, SC will be ok.

You got that right...what I've seen some show makes me laugh sometimes..

Doesn't though.....I've seen handlers drag around a dog and a judge will put the dog up.

Isn't that the truth.

I know a lady that was approached by a handler that handled several breeds but not yorkies and she asked to show this persons dog. The handler did not realize how much work went into preparing a yorkie for the show ring. Needless to say, after showing the yorkie for a couple of weeks she admitted that she just could not handle showing yorkies and she returned the yorkie to the owner. Of course the owner learned a lesson also and she then got a handler that was familiar with yorkies and the dog finished.

Handlers are not cheap but a person is much better off hiring a reputable handler because there are some handlers that will take advantage of unsuspecting newbies.

Kirsten lives in Canada, Barb Biesell in Florida, Luke and Diane in Ohio....but, they travel all over the states. So, you may see them at the show.

Sorry to get off topic but...I just got a gorgeous little male Biewer Yorkshire Terrier from Germany. He has an incredible pedigree, both his sire and dam have tons of Championships as well as lots of Champions farther back in his pedigree. As far as I can see he adheres to the breed standard above and beyond. Unfortunately, I am too busy at home to travel around and show him and I have begun looking for a reputable handler. At this point I have pretty much given up on finding a handler who has experience with Biewers and I am just looking for a handler who has experience with standard Yorkshire Terriers. It is of course very important to me that I find someone well known who will take just as good of care of my little guy as I would. Plus, I need to find someone who is willing to show with the NAKC and IABCA since Biewers can not be shown with the AKC. Also, I would like some advice on when to start showing him...he is 4 months right now. Some suggestions from any 'show guru's' would really be appreciated.

Oh you do have a tough delima going here. As most yorkie handlers only handle AKC shows, I don't think they would handle otherwise.....
