I 'm just worried I'd look like a total fool....not knowing what to do, where to go, how to walk, how to hold him. Although, I have read a few places that the IABCA and NAKC shows are more of a relaxed atmosphere compared to the AKC shows? |

Zero, zip, none. He's doing very well. Took best jr.puppy in show twice...he needs 2 points and a 3 pt major for a jr championship in NAKC. Next chance is Canada in a couple of weeks. I would say the people who show in these circuits are more relaxed and very friendly. It's not dog eat dog. The judges in NAKC are usually AKC judges....and in IABCA...it's two American judges and two foreign judges. It is a lot of fun...and I've met some great people. |
I agree with Deb.....try taking your new puppy yourself in the ring. It is a great time for you and the puppy to bond and learn to work together. I had no experience in the ring, except for watching AKC shows when I was a youngster. But we have had a lot of fun in ARBA, NAKC and IABCA shows with our biewers. |
OKAY...so I have more questions. On the NAKC website it looks as though there is a junior class from 6 to 12 months...so does that mean you cant show with the NAKC til 6 months old. Because I can see on the IABCA website there are several different classes for all age levels. How about with the ARBA? And also how does the point system work because I read this off the NAKC website: Junior Champion - Between 6 to 12 months of age. 10 points, 1 major of 3 points. Points will be retained towards the NAKC's Adult Championship, an additional 3 point major must be earned to finish out the 15 points for the NAKC Adult Championships. Junior Champions may not move up to Champion Class for Best of Breed. International Champion - Over 12 months of age. Must have two 3 point majors under two different judges with a total of 15 points earned. can someone translate that into English :confused: ....like how many shows do they need to win or place in and against how many other dogs? |
In NAKC you are allowed to show them at 3 months. They only earn ribbons if they place. They do not earn any points towards championships until 6 months old. IABCA is a european type of show. Your dog is judged against the standard and then against other dogs. Each judge critiques your dog...you earn orange cards for the highest rating. 3 cards earns you a national 4 cards an international. you can earn national and international titles beginning at 3 months. So your pup could earn those at 3 months and again as a junior puppy. You don't progress beyond those until the puppy is older. Dee can help you with the ARBA shows. She has two grand champions...(may have that title wrong) with ARBA. |
Ok on ARBA, you again can get ribbons in the 3-6 month groups but no points towards championships. To earn a Championship with ARBA 6-12 months is puppy championships and over 12 months is Open Adult. The dog must earn 9 "excellents" from 6 different judges. A master championship comes with an additional four judges judging your dog as excellent over 90-100. And Itzi, Cruiser and Emme have all become Master Champions. |
