I think the chances are very high that they have been breeding over-standard dogs recently (in the last 5 generations at minimum) to wind up with a 15 pounder today. To me, that would not be the best of breeding practices.
But since the dog is a rescue -- I would just say -- all the more to love. One would not breed a rescue of unknown heritage anway, so no problem. :) | I have a female that I showed and Championed/yorkie standard (6 1/2 pounds when she finished, a bit larger now since she is now a retired mom). My grandson has her brother, beautiful dog, gorgeous conformation, but 13 pounds, not fat, just a big boned boy and big. Both are line bred from a long line of Champions, over 15 generations of Champions.....both parents are standard size and Champions. So, it does happen. |
