Please Help...Breeding questions from Newbie Hi. I have a serious question. My brother has two young yorkies, (Right at a yr old each)the female was in heat and my brother thought his male was too young to 'know how" to "get" the female... Well, you guessed it. He says they got tied up no less than 50 times over the course of 3-4 days....Is Sissy going to be ok!?!? I have her now as he is out of town and I am so worried. I Assume she is pregnant, I will take her to the vet in the Very near future. I just need to know some eneral info please... Is it normal for them to mate That much?? please don't judge harshly, this is truly Not my brothers intention, just innocent ignorance. Thank you for your time!! |
Just out of curiosity? How did he let them do it up to 50 times? If he "thinks" he doesn't know how to do, why was he counting all the ties? How many pounds do both of them way? I know you must be worried out of your mind right now. You can always have her spayed to abort the puppies. Talk to your vet tomorrow. Goodluck. |
Ahhh How nice and Rude of you!! WE didn't count!! I am sure it was a guesstimate. I did not ask to be chastised or spoken down to. Thank you for that. He is a loving amazing man who travels for work often and was just caught off guard. He tried to keep them seperated however, the male was just howling and such. No, there was no other place he could have taken one of them to seperate... I am not going to explain myself to you any longer... I had hoped for some compassion and understanding for this new Unexpected incident....Must be amazing to sit up so high.... Thank you for nothing Addicted.... I am sure you never ever make mistakes. May God bless you. Sissy will be well taken care of and the Lord will help guide us I am sure. |
I'm not sure what your wanting to know exactly. Are you asking if it is normal to tie that many times? They will tie as many times as allowed and/or until the bitch turns him away. You can bet she is pregnant. When did this all happen? How much does each dog weigh? Your brother needs to know that it is irresponsible and potentially dangerous to let them breed. If he tends to continue with the pregnancy I suggest he starts studying up on what he needs to do to prepare his girl. A lot can happen & a lot can go wrong. He needs to be responsible with the pregnancy and whelping now. |

thank you for honest help they male weighs 4 lbs and Sissy is right at 6 lbs. I have the female now and have been reading all I can get my hands on! The male has already been nuetered and Sissy will be After these pups. (I do not believe in abortion.) She is in bed with me now and will be with me 24/7. My brother feels terrible for his baby girl and quite bad all on his own. I was just Shocked and told him I would take over from here..... This happened around 6/18-6/21. |

After what I just went thru as an experienced breeder, this is one of those times it is better for me not to say anything except, I hope your brothers girl is alright.. |

I noticed you asked a few questions and there were a few very important points that were not brought up that may prove to be useful knowledge, just as future reference. You asked if it was "OK" that the dogs tied so many times the answer is NO! It is very dangerous for dogs to be allowed to free breed and more specifically to tie without close, hands on human supervision. This female (and male) could have suffered injuries as a result--time will tell, hopefully all will be OK. It would not be unheard of for the female to deliver prematurely and lose the litter--semi-common when a bitch has been overbred. Just something to be aware of "in case" so you are not caught off guard. For the record, no one here has claimed to be perfect and no one has talked down to you. The situation is the result of your brother's actions, not yours. You are trying to make sure that the best interests of the girl are being met. No one is placing blame on you, please don't think that. You are understandably frustrated with the situation, but please try not to lash out at those trying to help you. Sorry to say, your brother is likely a very noble, stand up guy--but regardless to what excuses can be offered in his defense, as a pet owner, he has acted very irresponsibly :thumbdown and his dogs, the female in particular are paying the price. |

I might want to add, in reference to the lil girl a bit too young to breed. Not mentally mature, still a puppy herself and not ready to be a mother, might result in her not readily accepting her pups. |
