But, the 2 of mine were 1 pre and 1 - 2 hours post whelping. My Vet felt it was the sudden dropping of her milk.. (and lots of it) caused the eclampsia. Of course, I just didn't put them back on Mom and forget her, but I supplemented, gave her fluids, and a strict regimen of different meds and sources of Calcium given to me by my Vet, and around the clock vigilance for several days. Mom did raise her babies, and never showed any other signs.

Deb, this is what I am doing. believe me, this is her second and last litter. Also, for those questioning me, I am following MY VET'S instructions. I am also at the ready to immediately snatch puppies away if mama shows any sign at all of it happening again. i have bottles, nipples, supplement on hand and I have hand raised litters before from birth.

Pre-whelp Eclampsia, I was told happens when massive amounts of milk is dropped all at once, getting ready for whelp, and throws their body off. This mama quit her last litter at three weeks and I raised them from there. Right now, they are getting colostrum or have already gotten it. That is what I was hoping for. if I have to raise them now, we will be alright. I am doing everything just the way you said you did and that is per my vet's instructions.

I know you're stressed, but wasn't questioning you and what you were doing, just asking as there was a possibility things had changed. And as someone said previously if we can't learn from each other why are we here.

I know you weren't and I didn't mean to imply it. I always take what my vet says. Seldom will you ever see me on here asking advice. I probably wouldn't follow it anyway if it went against what my vet and myself think LOL. True i was on another list at four oclock the other morning but I was in a panic and needed reassurance.

That's why I asked on the outside that there was new things that we may learn. I too go by what my vet and mentor advise, because usually at the time I'm in such a state that I wouldn't hear or read what anyone else would have to offer. But, when things are going well and I'm thinking with a clear head I'm prone to asking questions. I'm always trying to learn, so I ask questions.

Hi Dee. So sorry to hear about Sadie. Hope she is feeling much better. I hope I am not screwing up lol. I give mine Yogurt and scrambled egg all through pregnancy plus afterwards. This would scare the crap out of me lol. I will have to watch even more carefully. I have my fingers crossed too. Have not had eclampsia in any of my girls yet. Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. Now I will be even more vigilant than I am lol. My girls think I am a PIA but they really do love the support I give them when they are whelping. Sue, I am going back to the old way of giving mine the eggs, puppy food and cottage cheeese during pregnancy too. I never had a problem until I tried not giving her any based on so called new research. What is written on paper is not always what works.

I am so glade to hear that your female is doing better..

Lucy is due July 30, I am also going back to my old way also.. She is getting the puppy food,eggs,cottage cheese and vitamin supplement all the way and also will after she gave birth... Your story really worry me and confused me too...

I have always done this with my preggy girls and of course continue after babies are born. I think we can get caught up in all this stuff on here and other placees and think, "um, maybe I will try this or maybe I am wrong and they are right". I think it causes a lot of us to mess up big time. I personally know another breeder that was trying hard to do what people on here said to do in order to be an ethicsal breeder, in their eyes,. She lost one puppy and nearly lost another because of it. That's when I decided to do what works for me personally. I forgot that with this girl tho. it will never happen again. I will continue to do things the way I have for years with no problems. i understand your confusion tho. You have to take all this stuff with a grain of salt. keept the good and throw out the bad.

You are so right... most of us, breeders, constantly trying to improved our breeding techniques and do what is right sometimes get confused. And yes we are all scare of being judge by other too... It's hard to make your own decisions when there is a bunch of people on here telling you to go one way..

Went you really think about it, does it really make sense to change something that work good just to fallow the new believed...

As you mention, keep the good and throw out the bad
