In labor???
 
Man, I just joined yesterday, and I might already need help.:cool:

My sweet girl, Cassie, is 59 days today and hasn't eaten much for two days. Last night I stayed up with her as she dug in her box, panted and shook a bit, and was fairly restless.

This morning, she cuddled on the sofa with me, and now she seems to be having contractions, but I don't know what they are like in a dog.

She kind of tenses up and stretches her back legs. She kind of looks like she's trying to push, but the puppies are not very low.

Does this sound right?

When they go into labor the belly will get really hard and knot up when they are having contractions. PLEASE, because of her age, watch her closely. If she pushes hard for a hour and no puppy is born then please take her to the vet.
As I said before for her to have a litter for the 1st time at 9 1/2 years old can be very dangerous. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

The water bag just came out! Ahhhh! Is 59 days okay? It's 59 from the tie.

Yes, 59 days is fine. I have delivered many litters on day 59 and they are just fine.

I can see something when she pushes, but nothing has come out yet.

The vet said she could push for 2 hours, but I won't wait that long until I bring her in.

It looks like something started to come out, then slid back in. It looked like the bag of water, but that already came out. When the puppy starts coming out, will its sack look like the bag of water? It just looked like a bubble.

I wonder if she doesn't have it in her to push harder. I see a little bubble pop out and then slide back in. I know it's normal to slide back in, but she hasn't made much progress.

How long has she been pushing...can you call your vet, just to see what he/she thinks?

The bubble was just another water bag. As soon as she popped it, the baby started to come out. He was breech, and I had to help, but it was great!

We have him on a heating pad. He is still so cold. He nursed a little bit, but I knew he needed to get warm, so he's hanging out on the pad now with a towel over him. :(

We have only heard a little squeak. I thought he would be more vocal.

I rub them down suck out their noses. i like to hear cry alot.

We didn't hear the squeak until we rubbed him. I suctioned his nose and mouth when he first came out, and have done it a few more times since then just to make sure it was clear.

I know what you mean; I really wanted to hear some crying.

I don't remember ever hearing them cry when they come out. I always briskly rub mine after I have suctioned nose and mouth. Congratulations. You did great.

Hoping everything is ok! Only the first one born cried with Zoe's litter. All the rest were pretty quiet. Can't wait to hear how she's doing!

Woo! That was exciting! She had a little girl at 9:45!

We just got back from the vet and she still had her placentas, so she got a shot of oxytocin. The doctor was able to get one out, and we are waiting on the other one.

The babies are nursing now.
Oh, and I can't believe this! The x-ray showed one breech, and they were both breech, so the little girl completely turned around since Wednesday!

Her first contraction was at 7 this morning, so besides her pre-labor behavior yesterday, that was a fast labor! Not bad for an old lady! LOL

I forgot to say that the little boy is 5.2 oz, and the little girl is 5.1 oz. :aimeeyork

Congratulations on your two new babies! One of each; how great is that? Sounds like mom (and grandma:p ) did a great job! Nice sized babies too. Will you be keeping them?
I'm anxious to see pictures the happy little family! Yorkie babies are sooooo cute.

The father's family lives two doors down from us, and they are keeping one. We are keeping the other. How cool is that?

I'm a little concerned, b/c Cassie is so obsessive with them. LOL

Even my vet said to watch her carefully, b/c she keeps licking the umblical cord, and could pull it. I've heard about that and it's terrible.:(

Poor things, they can barely nurse, b/c she keeps licking them. My 14 yo told Cassie to stop it, b/c they were already clean with placenta spit!
