I think we are close! I'm a Nervous Wreck! We are expecting our first litter - Hannah has gone under the bed - she did not want her breakfast this morning. She has come out 2 times to go out to potty and wanted me to hold her for just a minute or two and then right back under the bed. She is having 2 babies - the perfect litter, my grown sons can't wait to get their very own fur babies... My 'emergency' kit is all ready and the vet's phone # is on speed dial (LOL) any other advise for the extremely nervous mom? :) |
First of all, Congratulations to you and Hannah. How exciting. First of all, YOU have to be calm and relaxed or Hannah will pick up on your nervousness. If you have her whelping box/area ready, you might encourage her to stay there. How many days along is she? Have you taken her temp? You can rest assured that your YT family will help all they can, it is a good thing that you have your vet's number on speed dial. LOL I know Dr. Amy's phone number by heart. If you will have to use an emergency vet after hours, have that number handy as well. |
Do you have a whelping area set up for her? The one thing I would not do is let her have them under the bed. Good Luck! :) |
Cindy and I were posting at the same time. LOL When she says that your YT family will help all they can you can believe it! They are awsome and if it weren't for them I know our outcome on Monday morning would have been far different than the perfect outcome we had. You are in the best hands here! Kim :) |
I am doing a good job of being calm with her (I think LOL!) - thankfully she is a very calm girl... She is 64 days - I said her due date was today (6/12) the vet said (6/10) when she saw him - Her temp is 99.1... I think my nerves are mor anxious than anything - I am a 'stay-at-home' (I work from home) mom to Hannah & Brodie so they are like my kids - you know how yorkies are :-) I truly appreciate the info & support! |
I have had her whelping area set up for about 2 weeks & tried repeatedly to introduce her to it - no go... My male loves it LOL - he thinks it is great! |
If you have a playpen, xpen or even a baby gate that you could use to keep her in an area with the bed or at least where you can watch her I would try that. Under the bed you won't be able to help if needed or see what you need to. :) |
That's a good idea - do you think itis ok to wait until she starts moving into 'panting' labor? |
I just want to say Best wishes to you and your soon to be momma! You sound like you are prepared and educated. Congratulations and I can't wait to see pics! :D |
congrats on your new arrivals to be , i would be just like you nervous and so excited. I bred mine didn't take they only hooked one time . So in two days I am picking up another fur ball and I can't wait to get her. I will be excited to hear how your first time went, I hope my first time will be in the near year! karen |
cindy is right. We are here for you if you need help. Just try to stay calm. Your nerves will travel to her. congratulations. |
There are several of us here, and always willing to help. Are you planning on whelping in the bedroom? If not, I would shut the door so she couldn't go there. I would remove your male from the room where you are going to whelp, and contain her if she's hiding I would guess she about to get ready. |
The most important think is to put the momma somewhere where she is comfortable and can relax and you can see her. If you have other dogs in the house you need to put them where they can't bother the momma. I always cover our bed with a old comforter and I put our whelping basket on the bed. I will just lay there and watch tv with the momma. Once she really starts pushing hard then I make her get in the whelping basket. Usually once the pups start coming the momma will settle down and stay in place. Best wishes for a safe whelping. |
Thank you! I love this idea - that is where she is used to being :) Her temp is down to 98.3 - she is out from under the bed and just wants her 'Daddy' to hold her now that he is home from work (she is a total Daddy's Girl) - if only they could tell us what was going on! I keep going back to my books to see if I can figure anything out or find anything I missed to see how much longer LOL - I know - patience (is a virtue)... |
Thanks for the update.. I was wondering how things were going! |

Good Luck to you! I think for us first timers (at least for me) what gets me the most is the excitement and anticipation of it all. My girl is 3 weeks away and I can hardley stand the wait! I am even excitedly awaiting the xray appointment:D. From everything I have read this is a VERY supportive group of people who love yorkies and you will be in great hands! |
i have never been through a doggie pregnancy, we thought my bfs dads french mastiff was preggo, as planned, but she should be due any sec and now it might be a false pregnancy. I love these whelping posts, i can never wait till the end to see the puppies! |
oh I cant wait, and you experienced moms I think your great for always helping! |

Just talked to my aunt and Hannah is in hard labor and has lost some fluids, she is expecting the first baby very soon! If I hear anything I will let everyone know as I know how everyone gets while waiting for a new liter to arrive! |
Oh, I have been watching all afternoon and wondering how things were going! :D |
Oh how exciting! Can't wait to hear the "rest of the story". Oh boy puppies! |
Congrats to you and your fur kid! I agree, YT is an amazing place to come for support....it has been for me and my pregnant Yorkie, too. Post pictures of the babies when you get the chance. |

yeaaa a happy yorkie ending.... |
oOo can't wait to see pictures! |
4 Precious Little Girls! First of All THANK YOU to all of the YT community for the support! I reached out and you were all there. Hannah was a real trooper. She had a couple of hours of really hrd labor and wanted to be in my lap (?) then insisted on going back under the bed - I gave up and let her - within minutes we heard the first cry  as soon as she got thepuppy clean, I moved the baby & her Daddy moved her to the whelping box. Within 20 minutes she jumped out of thebox and headed under the bed and boom - puppy #2 - again, I took the baby & Daddy took her back to the box. I had my Mom on 1 phone & my neice on the other helping the babies start nursing and again Hannah jumped up knocking the now nursing babies off and moved to the back of the whelping box and I said "Now way - we have another puppy!" she delivered #3 in the box. We again settled in to nursing babies and resting. About 40 minutes later she did the same thing (remember the vet told me we were having 2 puppies!) - and she delivered puppy #4!!! All of the girls are nursing and Mom is doing very good. The babies real dad was very curious so we let him take a look, he is terrified of them - LOL - he shook like a tree leaf when he saw them - my husband (Hannah's Daddy) told him 'Brodie don't worry, you don't have to support them! :) I will figure out how to post a picture I took last night of one of the girls - they are absolutely precious... I am a happy fur baby granny! Again, thank you to everyone! |
wooooooo yeah I am soooo happy it all turned out so welll!!!!! 4 puppys!!!!!!! Congrats! |
