That explains the infection issue then. It's a good thing she got spayed. Five girls? What are the chances of that? |
Keep a good eye on her when she wakes up, if she didnt want any thing to do with them earlier ( I know she was in pain) But she is gonna be very sore from the C-section and spay and with them feeding on her she may wake up and try and attack or even kill them. heard of this happening before. so keep a good eye on her. hope all goes well. sorry you lost one. |
~Poor Princess ...no wonder she was freaking out. How scary for you to go thru that, maybe you and hubby can take turns watching them and mommy to make sure she nurses and isn't growling at them. Good Luck and keep us posted!! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Just checking in to see if all if well....Leaving to go out of town for the day and was thinking about you and your new crew first thing as I woke up!! Still praying things level out for you. Congratulations on a lovely little gang!!! Breeding is ALOT of work:) |
just checking in to see how mama and the babes are doing now. |
Well, YT'ers, it's a new day and things are a bit different today. I was up almost all night, everytime I heard a peep, had to go kneel by the box and put pups next to mom, they seem as dumb as she is, I put them next to a juicy lookin teat, and they won't leave their mouth there, haha, I am sure they will all get it. Last night I only had one time I saw them all latched on at once, but I guess it's hard to make room for five at once. Princess is acting more like a mom, still isn't crazy about nursing them, but is licking them A LOT, and is not growling anymore. She doesnt seem to be very protective over them tho, when the chihuahua sticks her head through the door to sniff puppies, she just looks at her. Then the chihuahua growls at the german shepherd mix we have when SHE tries to get a whiff. It's kind of funny. For the most part I keep them out of there, But I did want to see if there would be a reaction. Maybe that will kick in later. I havent had a chance to pick up a food scale yet, I tried to borrow one, but no one had one, so I am leaving hubby with the babies so I can get one, I want to make sure no one loses weight. Still no pics of puppies, hubby bought one of those Kodak easy shares, and it doesnt want to let him transfer pics to our computer. Mom is still pooping dark green blackish poop, that is normal, right? |
It sounds like you had a rough night! But congrats on your 5 little babies. I hope we can see pictures soon! I have heard stories about kodak cameras not being easy to transfer pictures from, but can't be of any real help there. :) |
Really good to hear that her and the babies are alright! Also glad to hear that she is starting to take care of them. I hope you are able to take a nap today from you lake of sleep last night. I can't wait to see pictures of the little ones.... |
Mom has been threw so much I am happy she is now doing much better. COngratulations on the four little girls and I am sorry she lost one. Can't wait for pictures. |
By the way, I just wanted to say thank you for all the love and support throughout this whole process. It would have been rough all on my own. Even though you are people I have never met, I can still feel that you all care, as we all are CRAZY for our babies. Thank you so much, especially since I know I shouldnt have even done this in the first place. We really should leave it up to the breeders who know what they are doing. And not one person has judged me or said one mean word to me. That means a lot, when I really did need help. Like I have said before, these arent show quality, cant be papered, but are so, so loved, and already have loving homes. All I want is their health and happiness. And never again for us! But I am so in love with dogs, if I could quit my job today and figure out something to do with dogs (something fun, not a vet!) I would do it in a heartbeat. I just don't have a clue. Or the money, lol! All I do have is love for them, not just yorkies, but all dogs. (But my yorkie stole my heart, can ya tell :p) |

I just read through your whole thread at once and am happy for the turn around. Sounds like things are starting to go a little smoother for you, new momma and puppies. Take care of your girls! (And try to catch a little rest for yourself, if you can.) Best wishes to all! |
What a saga! We ought to make everyone that "thinks" they may want to breed their little female read this thread! And it isn't over yet! I am so happy that things are turning toward a good ending though. You did a great job! |
Yep it is a hard job I've had two litters and was sitting there with both litters( to help if needed).Glad eb is doing fine....I'll continue watch for updates... Sheila |
I'm glad everything is going better. I had a first time mom terrified of her puppies and had to hold her down for the pups to nurse. That only lasted for 1 day and then she loved them. Hope you get some sleep. :) |
New day. Since she had them on Monday, I guess this is day three, so we should go for tail docking today, but I am real concerned with their weights. Got a scale yesterday, and used ounces. I should have used grams to be more accurate. Here were their weights yesterday, in order of birth... 4.95 4.25 4.20 4.75 4.15 and today... 4.70 4.20 4.15 4.75 4.10 no one is gaining, most have lost, they have been at teat almost constantly since dinnertime last night. Mom was panting pretty hard late last night, and felt pretty warm to me, I took temp and it said 102.5 I guess not too bad, but I suspect she is drying up. I have been giving her puppy food, cottage cheese and a little ice cream, all of which she has gobbled down (and has diarrhea from) I think it is time for a call to the vet. Still no pics, it keeps saying the file is too big. grrr |
If I were you I would call ur vet..He is the best one for advice right now since he is there and knows the situation...Honey you need to talk to him on a daily basis ...Till they get out of danger.. Why would she be drying up ....as long as the babies are nursing she should have milk....But I'm not a dr...Your vet is the best for medical advice...But we will support you imotionaly...Keep us up dated... We just got back from vet. He pumped them up with liquids and vitamins, as they were all dehydrated from not getting enuf milk from mom. Now we are bottle feeding every hour, and still letting mom nurse as much as she and they want to try and get her milk stored up. I am off work for two weeks vacation, and hope that when I go back I will get laid off for a month (they have been doing voluntary layoffs for two months now, but are making us take turns) I want to be home round the clock to take care of them. Mommy is eating well, but doc said her uterus almost ruptured from the babies, so we are fortunate we brought her in and did c-sec and spay. No tail docking, maybe monday if they are doing better. We were at vet for two hours, and the vet tech was with us almost the whole time, helping us to learn bottle feeding, etc. Charged us $24.50 for the visit. Well worth triple that, as far as I am concerned. Hubby keeps saying these "free" puppies are getting more expensive by the day. lol I am just glad I have a vet who seems to care. |
I am so glad u do too.Or it would have been thousands of dollars....U do indeed have a very caring vets....Kudos to ur vet...:) |
I've been silently watching this thread and just want to say congratulations on the litter and I'm glad everyone (including you) are doing well. Also, I know you are having issues uploading pictures and probably don't have much time to figure it out. If you want to email them to me, I'd be more than happy to get them posted for you. Just send me a PM! |
Wow. I am so impressed by you! Do you know what kind of dog the father is? |
Your doing a wonderful job with your babies and momma. You must be exhusted from worry and taking care of all those little ones. I hope it get's easier for you soon. Hugs, |
I am glad to hear that things are getting better. Congrats on the litter and I hope that things continue to go well.... |
first feeding by myself was a challenge. their little legs wiggle right out of the towel I am trying to hold them in. :p Then I keep having to warm up the formula cause it takes a while to feed five by yourself. I think I fed to much to one of them cause when she was done, it sounded like she was breathing it. I hope it didnt end up in her lungs  It will get easier, round two is comin up now. Can someone put on some coffee? :tired: |

you have a wonderful vet it seems. I am glad things are going better for you. if it is sounding like it is breathing it, The pup may have aspirated some of the forumla. be careful. Don't mean to scare you but you always have to be careful when tube or bottle feeding about aspiration pneumonia. I can't wait to see pictures of your babies. i hope hubby will help you so you can get some rest. |
Just a quickie, pups are doing much better with supplemental feedings, they all now weigh over 6 oz's and arent dehydrated anymore. Took everyone to vet yesterday and everything looks better to him, we go back on monday to decide on tail docking. Vet doesnt really want to because of all the trouble they have had, he said he would rather see a live puppy with a tail than a dead one with a cute cropped one. Good point, and we ARE now past the three day mark. It will be eight days on monday, just dont know what we will be doing. I got a fantastic pic of the puppies with the new camera, and i have it in my kodak gallery on the computer, but I may have to email it to get it out of there. So that is one more stupid thing I have to learn. I hate technology. Mom is certainly doing better with being a momma, actually I think she is going a little overboard she gets wigged out when I have the puppies for feeding, she gets very upset at night and jumps up on my bed five or six times just to smack me in the face and wake me up, still havent figured that out! Man am I glad we spayed her, lol!!!! |

The green colored poop and discharge is normal after birth. Congrats on litter. Make sure each pup can latch on so all get enough milk. I give new babies a drop of nutridrops after they are cleaned up so they have a surge of energy to search for teat and hold on. Works well. Take care, Sue |
