Please tell me???? I have a girl who is 56 days and she is having really small poop and now she is having some mucousy poop (dark green ) and she is also having white stringy discharge from her vulva, is this fairly normal/common? Thanks for any help |
Sounds like she may be losing/ or has lost her mucous plug. I am not an expert by any means though so wait for an experienced person to comment on this one..... Is she having any other pre-labor type signs? I did raise goats and she began to have a thick stringy mucous before she actually went into labor. I am sure somone will have better, dog oriented advise for you soon.:D |
The thick clear stringy discharge from the vulva is normal. The green mucus stool is not. Has she had anything different to eat? Is she 56 days from the 1st breeding. Usually they will start pooping more right before delivery but it should not be dark green unless she ate something she shouldn't have. |
She is 56 days from the first time they tied. I did give her a small piece of black forest cooked ham last night, but before this she was still having small puppy poops too. I read on a post here that some one was asking how many times and how much time in between ties too... why is this significant> or is it? thank you for your help! :) |
I used to raise pits, and one of my females had this stinky green discharge. I rushed her to the vet, and he said it was normal. All her pups were healthy. |

The reason we ask about the number of ties is because that gives us a better idea of the range of days the female might possibly whelp in. |
I never even BUY HAM!!! GRRRRR or pork products, but we did have it last night and I gave her a small piece, I hope she is ok. But I WILL say this - she is having contractions I think - she is burying her head and tensing up and her bottom goes in the air. It started at about 6:30 or so and I will keep a close close eye on her, because I DO NOT want her having these babies yet! I think 56 days is too early no? Thank you for the input... |
I hope she is not going into labor either. She needs to wait a few more days. Sometimes when the pups drop (get into position before birth) a few days before delivery the momma can act a bit strange. How many is she expecting? Is her belly really tight? |
I don't know how many she is expecting, but yes her belly is tight most of the time and she is acting really restless, her eyes are really glazed like she is in a daze too. I hope she isn't sick or anything. The babies are moving a lot still too. When she will cuddle with me for a few minutes I can feel them squirming. If she can hang on till Monday at the very least I will be happy. I will try to post a picture of her. |

She is cleaning him off and even cleaning out his mouth and all - when will he eat? I think he is too young and we may lose the whole litter... unless she was further along than that |
My prayers and thoughts are with you hoping you have a healthy happy litter. |
Personally I don't let the mom break the sac and cut the cord. I do all that myself. You need to pick the pup up and dry the pup. Make sure the cord is not bleeding. Does the pups have hair or does the skin feel rubbery? You need to make sure the pup is in a dry place. I always sit with the mom and place a small hand towel over the baby so it does not get chilled. When the mom has another puppy then I move the other puppies out of the way. Some puppies come out wanting to nurse right away and others might take 30 minutes or so. I usually try to help the puppies attach to nurse between puppies. The nursing helps stimulate the contractions. Is the puppy breathing well or is he gasping? |
Puppy us all clean and good, he has hair on him, and he is gasping a bit ( not good right? ) I wrapped him in a hand towel and kept him warm and stimulated him - he seems to respond really well to this. I will be back |
we now have two boys - the second one came out very quickly also- but the placenta is still in tink - she separated the cord when he came out - he is def more lively than the first one - but he is starting to come around - he is making noises now still no interest in the teat though. the second one went right for it... |
Are we good do you think? first one is still slow - but he is warm and on a blanket in a heating pad too... his breathing is steadying I will be back |
If they have hair then they are most likely near full term. How much do you think they weigh? |
They are YAPPPPPPYYYYY!!! YAYYYY - so far I have two VERY lively squaky pups! I don't know how much they weigh, but when do you think she will let them feed? Nature will take its course? how long between pups usually I know she has a few more in there... will she naturally deliver the placenta to the second pup? sorry for all the bombardment of questions - I am so proud of her she is doing so well! |
I will be back again soon to update... my poor husband has to go to work in the early am and tink decided to have the pups in our room .... |

It could be anywhere from a few minutes to several hours between puppies. I would give her some nutri-cal between puppies if you have any, if not some karo syrup and water. Most of the time 45 minute to an hour is common between puppies. As for the placentas, yes, they should pass naturally. Sometimes you might deliver a couple of pups before you see a placenta. The placenta has to release from the uterine wall and that does not always happen immediately. Sometimes you might get a puppy followed with two placentas. I will usually let the female eat one but the rest I try to grab and dispose of. |
well so far it has been exactly as you say - about one every 45 min we now have three BOYS!!! Where are my girls... only one placenta though. I am watching close. She is a great mom a real trooper, she doesn't mind me touching them at all the least bit. Now the cords, I have been TRYING to help cut them but they are hard to get at with a thread, but we are all healthy so far. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much, I would be so undone and lost without being able to ask all these ?'s! I'll be back it feels like there a about three more in there... she is still really big and lumpy! |
