On puppy watch today!!!
 
Hello Everyone:

I'am new to posting on this site, although, I have been lurking for 8 months. Sophie (my 3 year old yorkie) and I are spending the day on the sofa. She is sixty days today, I expect puppies (4) soon!! We're all ready, just waiting. Just wanted to say HI, and thnaks for all the great info.

Welcome to YT. I pray your momma has a safe whelping. Is this her first litter? Be sure to let us know how everything goes.

Thanks for the welcome. This is her second litter. When do I offer the "whelping pudding"? Her temp one hour ago was 98.1.

I have never had to give mine the whelping pudding but I think those that do give it after the puppies are born. I always give a little Nutri-cal during the delivery. Has she started having contractions yet? You might end up being up all night.

I offered it to my TAffy when she was in labor but she did not want it, anothe breeder told me to offer her low sodium chicken broth and she drank it in between contractions, she also took a bit of nutri cal. After the pups were born and she had rested an hour or so she was very hungry and ATE a LOT of the whelping pudding by itself and by dinner time she ate all her kibble mix with the pudding too.. then after the first day, I started giving her cottage cheese with her kibble for breakfast, and kibble and whelping pudding for lunch and before bed.. also she had kibble and fresh water available all the time..:)

Hi Cheryl............welcome to Yorkie Talk! Congratulations on the upcoming litter of 4; sounds like it could be any time now. :p How exciting! Yes the whelping pudding is normally for after the pups arrive. I mixed about a tablespoon in with her her food each time she ate. It helps keep her calcium supply up. There was also an "immediately after whelping" recipie that I got from here that my girl lapped up like crazy after she had her pups. I'll see if I can find it for you. Good luck to you and Sophie; I'll be praying for a safe whelp & the arrival of some healthy puppies soon.

She had one contraction that I felt. She's not that uncomfortable or restless yet, but probably in the first stages of dilation. Yes, I might be up tonight.
She had some of the whelping pudding, not interested in food. Thanks again for your input and well wishes. I'll keep you posted

I wish you the best. On my site you may find some useful info. Good luck!! My 4 lbs yorkis gave birth not to long ago and she is such an excellent mom. Yes I have teacups & teapots!!!!!

Good luck with your litter! I've been on puppy watch today too! Pixie is on day 61 and expecting 6 so I don't plan on sleeping much tonight!

The puppy watch is over! Pixie had 3 little boys and 2 little girls! They vet had said the x-ray showed 6 maybe 7 but she was apparently wrong. I took Pix to the vet an hour after the 5th one was born and the new x-ray showed that all the pups were out! She did great for her first time. She had them all within 2 hours and had the 4th and 5th one in 7 minutes. She's being the perfect mom to them and I could not be any more proud than I am right now! :D:D:D

Congratulations on your nice sized litter! I'm glad to hear that everything went so well & hope all the pups and mom continue to do so. We'd of course love to see pictures either here or in the nursery when you get a chance. Welcome to Yorkie Talk!

Well, today is day 63 for you if I am calculating right from your first post. Not that it means anything definite. Like you said, the pups will be here when the time is right for them. Good luck & I will continue to watch.

We are on Puppy Watch Too!!!!
 
:animal36 Penne is on day 61 today. Her temp last night was 99.3 and this morning 97.6. Would say that is a drop. Ate an egg and some turkey this morning, should say gobbled it down but other than than the tempature drop no other symptoms. Had her to the vet on Monday and we see four heads so we are expecting at least 4. Will keep everyone posted.

aw good luck! Pixie's temperature runs low naturally so it was hard to tell exactly based on that but she was nesting like crazy all day long yesterday and didn't start hard labor until 11:40 and had all the pups out by 1:40! I wish you all the luck with your litter! I'm sure your little girl will do great!

Hi: Still no puppies yet for Sophie. Congrats to Pixie on her new babies. My yorkies have always seemed to LOVE being moms. I wish that they were able to TALK to me. I'll be watching for updates on Penne. The waiting is so hard!

The puppy watch is over! Pixie had 3 little boys and 2 little girls! They vet had said the x-ray showed 6 maybe 7 but she was apparently wrong. I took Pix to the vet an hour after the 5th one was born and the new x-ray showed that all the pups were out! She did great for her first time. She had them all within 2 hours and had the 4th and 5th one in 7 minutes. She's being the perfect mom to them and I could not be any more proud than I am right now! :D:D:D


You are so lucky that she had them in 2 hours. When Abby had her puppies last year she started at 11pm with panting etc... finally went into hard labor and had the last one at about 8 am the next morning. And she only had 4.

Congratulations Cheryl on the healthy litter! The weights all seem pretty sturdy, though anything under 3 oz might make me a bit nervous. I've never had any that small. And two girls and two boys.............how perfect is that? We'd all love to see pics of the new babies and the proud mommy once they get some rest.
