Any amount is good but 12cc isn't really a lot so if you could get some more in her it would be good. Maybe give her a few minutes break if she's getting too squirmy to take it. Maybe she would take some meat; that would be good too. Honestly, she may be doing poorly from an infection or something, but her lack of eating and drinking is probably causing her most immediate problem. From the way you described her behavior and condition, the more food of any type you can get in her the better. Even though a lot of people don't think it's good to give them, mine never turn down a piece of ham. A weak mom is not good so I would try anything, at least in the short term.

Was awake till 4 a.m.. woke jim up at 3 am to go to the drug store and get me some pedialyte, gave her some of this.. she went down hill fast again.. so I went to bed for a couple hours and jim sat with her.. then we went to the vet!!!!

Just got back from the vet.. I was up till 4 am.. woke jim up at 3am and he went and got me some pydiealit.. not spelled right.. got up and went to the vet...
She was given more fluids.. blood work showed she is enimic and was given antibiotics, and sucralfrate 1gm, vit b121 shot, vit k shot, fecal exam showed positive for blood.. potassium chloridae injection 20 meg
She is not cooperating with me much.. her blood is low but shows she is making new blood but needs beef the vet said.. so will get some beef liver to give her if we have to grind it up... I have been saying all along something was not right.. vet does not work on sunday but says she is going to call me in the afternoon tomorrow...
Said something about an ulcer... not sure what she meant.. I did not get fluids from her.. but I know how to do it now.. she says she does not think I can do it.. what they do not get is that I can tube feed a baby and did and have... so I can do anything if it is a must...and many breeders do not tube feed..jim is going to get beef liver for me also... will grind it up and put it in some food for her... woogieman thanks so very much for your help, pm's and just being online in the middle of the night... anne

Post Whelping Pudding

16 oz. water
1 pkg. Knox Gelatin
(micro. to disolve)
15 oz. can evap. milk
2 tabls. vanilla yogurt
2 egg yolks
2 tabls. white corn syrup
mix all ingred. in bowl let set in fridge
until thickens. Spoon out as needed.

I have another receipe for whelping pudding so getting this stuff as I type.. plus liver... she needs beef liver.... thanks sonya.. anne

I am a bit confused about the concern about her temperature being around 100 degrees. Most all of my yorkies have normal temperature between 100 and 102. Anything over 102.5 or below 99 I would be concerned with. If she is not eating then her blood sugar would drop and her temperature would run a little lower. Do you have any Nutri-cal? Is she producing much milk. If she is not eating then her milk production will be greatly reduced. I get a product from Revival called K-9 Bluelite and I always have it on hand for occasions when I have one not eating or drinking. It is a buffered, electrolyte/vitamin/mineral/multiple energy, rehydration supplement for dogs. It is a powder and just costs $9.99 for two pounds. You just add a little to the drinking water or you can give it with a syringe if they are not drinking on their own. I highly recommend you keep it in stock, it is much better than the pedialyte.

Are the pups still nursing mom? If the pups are a week old then mom will not want to be with them all the time. Panting is perfectly normal for the first couple of weeks because they are producing milk. If I get a momma that does not eat well after delivering then I hand feed them. I do not like to drastically change their diet because that can cause more problems. I do add canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food to their dry food and sometimes I will boil some eggs and add that to their food. I also give them Nutri-cal a few times a day plus their calcium supplement. I make sure they eat about 4 times a day. If you don't have any Nutri-cal you can give a little Karo syrup and water.

Thank you, Mara is not drinking fluids.. will eat, (not what she should)and has had to have subq fluids three times on this past 10 days..she had a bleed someplace..fecal showed positive for blood, I am wondering if this was caused due to what was administered to her when she had the c section.. just a guess on my part as the vet does not know..
Her calcium was up ok.. but with not drinking she was getting low on milk. that with fluids has of course helped her.. she was given a vitiman k shot, sucralfate, potassium chloride injection, I was given sucralfate med and amoxi-drops...we are also giving her pedialyte often which was suggested to me. As for her temp when she reached 100. for her the vet thought it was low.. as soon as fluids were injected her temp rose 2 degree...
We have cooked liver today and given her some with her food..
Babies at this time are thriving.. but we are having a hard time getting fluids into her and so far with a 3 cc syringe...

i am so sorry i went threw this with a bitch i had and i started giving fluids at home we finally put an iv in and in 2 days she was back to pretty much normal she just really needed to be rehydrated subqu was not enough we brought her home with the iv in and just made sure she did not crimp the line or pull it out he also added vitiam b and c to the iv
will your vet not do this
