Pregnant Beauty... Ok so I have a yorkie that had her period around Oct. 14th and locked Oct. 28. By the sounds of it I will be having a new years baby or around the 30th of Dec. I have mentors that I have learned from. She is small (4.8lbs pregnant) and my vet says she is healthy and may have 2 babies possibly one. I have all the necessary supplies for the proper whelping kit & a huge thick vet book on dogs. My question... She has a slight creamy discharge clear to cloudy. Is this normal? She is so cute and waddles when she walks.... I plan on keeping one of her babies and a family member will have the other... |
A clear or slightly creamy discharge is normal. The discharge will get more noticeable and sometimes gooey as she gets closer to delivery. Best of luck with the whelping. We would love to see pictures of your little girl. |
That's awfully small to be breeding. I pray that all goes well and you don't lose the pups or the mother |

I'm not trying to be mean. Why would someone ever breed 2.5 and 3 lb dogs? I have a 6 mo old that is 1 1/2 lbs, and even to add a pound to her, there is no way on Gods green earth, I would ever take a chance of breeding her, let alone a 3 lb dog and take a chance of losing the mother dogs..Sorry, but, I think that's just irresponsible to ever do that! |

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I have micros smaller dogs, whatever you wish to call them. One is AKC registered... The breeder that does breed these dogs is very well experienced and knows what he is doing. I am proud to own 2 of these little babies that he breeds! :) Three in total... |

Breeding extremely small dogs--"micros" as you call them--in greatly frowned upon by the majority of the educated Yorkie community as well as the members of YT. I'm sorry to say, but if your intent is puposely breed extremely small girls, I doubt you will find very much support from the members here who also "know what they are doing." |

I would never do anything to hurt or harm any of my pets. There are some people out there that like huge dogs while others like smaller dogs. Some breeders breed larger one and so on. I love smaller dogs and do have an 8lb. yorkie. So to your statement...I am not a breeder and am not doing this for size. Thanks for you info. |

The members here voice their concern regarding tiny girls being bred because we DO care. And yes, you have bred your dog, so you ARE a breeder. |

I thank you for all the feedback. |
Just can't hold back any longer. Ladies (and gentlemen), this person came to this forum for advice, not to be ridiculed for posting a question that was an attempt to learn. We all need to remember the learning curve we ALL went through when we first started out. Home page says "we are a friendly bunch". |

I am new and felt that I wanted to say something but held back , thank you for posting for this lady..I also posted something about my son's dog being pregnant it was an accidend and got a pretty rough answer, as a newbie I feel that I did not come here to be judge, all I wanted is a little bit of knowledge and frienship because I feel a bit confused and concerned about my son's dog too.. hugs, cArmen in nj |
Is "don't breed extremely small females" not a valid, good piece of advice? Something that not everyone starting out would know? Seems like pretty solid advice to me. Oh, and the OPs question WAS already answered...in case that was missed.;) |

Geesh folks, there are some harsh replies here . My impression of Leesha is that she came here seeking advice, has spent some time learning, and is OPEN to more learning. I think it's always great to educate, always, but please do so with some kindness, an open mind, and an intention to *help*. Otherwise, we just alienate the very people who could benefit the most from all of your wonderful expertise! :) :) :) |

Take into consideration the Newbies coming to this forum please. We would like them to return or feel comfortable contributing to a post. |

Maybe the harsh comments were the result of the way the OP responded when advised in a simple manner about breeding smaller Yorkies. Sorry, I just found it a bit concerning that someone is following breeding advice of someone breeding 2.5-3 pound dogs and who sees no problem with it. :( And unless I'm reading things incorrectly, this dog's age is quite concerning too...bred at only 10 months old!? |
I would like to offer my apologies for posting in this thread at all. In the future, when I read about situations that contain as what I interpret as areas of concern such as this one, I will try to refrain from posting. It amazes me that people can speak out adamately about breeding extremely small, young dogs, referring to them as teacups, etc in some instances, but then in other cases, it's not acceptable. LOL...one day I will figure it out... :p My apologies to anyone I upset. Sadly, this thread is a prime example of why so many breeders refuse to offer advice in the Breeder Section anymore. :( Again, to the OP, sorry if I was rude in your thread. Best of luck to you and your little one. |

I think some folks need to temper their harshness though - or we won't be able to educate newbies about the important things. Some won't learn no matter what, but some do - and that's where all of your efforts really pay off. :) |
