Piper is day 62 & this is what is going on help please
 

My Piper is a 2.3 yr old yorkie 62 days into her 1st litter.
I just got a temp from her of 99.2 this am it was 99.6.
Yesterday I noticed the whelping gel , not alot but enough & it was there again today .
I would say for the last 36 hrs she has not really been eating , I just gave her an egg & she has kept that down so far . she vomited 1X today 2X's yest.
There is no milk leaking but again this is her 1st litter . So I think that this is not uncommon.
Xray was done day 57 and confirmed 2 pups but vet said there is a 10% chance of a 3rd.
she is resting constantly , whelping box is ready heating pads are on .
no nesting , digging just tired and clingy to me . what do you all think? stage 1 ?

Hi there. I just went through this with my Molly early Friday morning, it was her first litter too. My vet said to take the temp in the morning and again in the evening around dinner time...this would give you a pretty good idea of an accurate temp and not give false readings if taken too close together.

Molly's temp dropped below 100 a couple of days before she delivered and then went back up to 100. The day before delivery she dropped to 98.6 and her belly dropped a bit from under her rib cage to her mid section and felt tight. She never got sick, didn't nest and didn't lose her appetite. She did get shakey and clingy...the shakes were off and on and she wanted to go outside a lot. We kept an eye on her that night, went to sleep and at about 12:30 a.m. she woke us up with labor and finally nesting in her box. She delivered on day 63 from their one and only tie.

Do you have your whelping supplies on hand? I had way too much but I wanted to have anything I might need rather than not have something I would need.

We had a perfect delivery...I hope you do too!

I think i have everything from hemostats to cords gloves etc. The one bit of info I left out was on sunday (day 60) she woke up HUGE ...that has gone down a bit , I thought is was just the way the pups were situated . I just cannot calm down though I have been setting the alarm to check her during the night .....the waiting is just as bad as it was when i was expecting my own ! I keep looking for that sign that say's ...ok 20 hrs to go .....I think this has taken yrs off of my life !

Hi there , ok I now know what you meant by her belly dropped ....all of this time Piper looked like she was pregnant up under & around her spine ....she has also dropped where now i can clearly make out her spine and the belly is low. I have a 98.6 F temp . and that is pretty much it ....I have a feeling though

First off, welcome to YT! Hope everything goes well for your lil girl! My Halle had babies four weeks ago and did wonderful:D Pray the same for you! I'll tell you the same thing another member told me, fix yourself a cup of tea, pop in a movie, just relax:) Keep us posted:D

SO Excited Piper has milk leaking out ...temp is still low . she is not nesting ....any guesses on how many hours i am away ?

Hi again...you're going to be fine! The main thing to remember is not to be nervous...she'll need you to be calm. Do you have someone you can call if you need help or have questions during delivery? What about your vet's number...do you have that on hand? My husband was there to help me...while I helped Molly, used the suction bulb on the babies, swung them, dried them off...he was taking notes, making coffee and helping tie and cut cords. It was great to have someone there with me.

I only had to help Molly with her first puppy but after that she did everything on her own and it went very well. She had 3 boys and everyone is fat and happy. I hope your delivery goes well too!

OMG I know how you feel:D Try to be calm. I know it's hard to be calm. For a week before Halle had her babies I was so nervous, seems like everyday I thought this is the day. Good luck to you and your baby! We'll be watching this thread for sure:p

All I can say is "WOW" ....we have nesting , digging , panting (although the panting is not constant yet ) she has lost some clear fluid as some really stinky material ( that i think has to be anal gland fluid) started at about 9:45pm
I knew going into this that for all obvious reasons it would be a beautiful experience but I have to say that when she looked at me during her contractions with muffled little cries in her throat ....pure love and trust I saw from my special baby ....It really touched me in a way I was not expecting . she has seemed to settled now uncomfortable but not panting ....dont know if that is significant or not . I have a feeling it is going to be a long night :) Thankyou all for your thoughts (prayers dont hurt either ) talk soon

Destiny just had her pups last thursday. She was in stage 1 of labor at 3pm and didn't end up having her pups until the next morning at 3am. It was such a long night for us, lol.

What kind of stinky fluid? What color is it?

I am in shock .....Piper was digging , panting then she just settled right down , seems like it just stopped . I took her outside , she is very quiet , she panted a few times ...can labour just stop like that ? IS this labour? also in my original post I said that Piper's temp was 99.6....mistake it was 98.6
what does this all mean ?

Molly did about the same thing the day before she delivered. She was shakey and clingy all day long but everything just seemed to stop at times for quite a while. When we went to bed at 9:30 or 10 everything was fine but she woke us up by making noise while nesting, at about 12:30 and didn't deliver her first one until 1:30. When Molly got serious about delievering she wouldn't leave me for a second...once she started pushing hard she went into her whelping box and laid down...a few minutes later we had our first boy.

Piper has been calm for a pretty long time ...4 hrs . woooah, i am so glad I am not a nail biter...I would have no nails left

Hang in there! Once Molly started it was all over in 2 1/2 hours. We had an x-ray so I knew how many were left...I kept telling her 'just one more Molly' but really I think I was telling myself! LOL!

Pipers 9;30 am temp says 97.5 no more panting no dgging just sleeeeeeeeping .

clear ....My mom owns a grooming business, so I know anal gland fluid....I am sure that is what it was. Piper was groomed about 6 weeks ago ( I brush her 2x's a day ) so they were emptied then . It was only a small amount but I think it was caused by a contraction.All discharge has been the colour /consistancy of egg white.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you ....I am new to this stuff :)

Well at 9:32 last night after only 15 mins of pushing Piper gave birth to a beautiful little girl 2 ounces everything happened beautiful....then terror I saw no placenta w the pup but knew that it would probably come out with the next pup. so then it happened I looked and saw a complete breech baby DOUBLE the size of the first . It was stuck ...I was doing my best but it was not moving . Then I realized that Piper was in trouble the pup was in trouble and if it did not come out...well you all know. I pulled the pup down and out towards Pipers jaw and am still surprised at how much force was needed, I thought I could have broken it's little bones ... Pup (girl) came out and was limp . really struggling and did not look right at all ....suction was taking out alot of fluid ....I paniced threw down the suction and (sorry) covered the pup's nose & mouth ...sucked it out myself ..little movement, used a warm towel wrapped it up and gave the pup tiny breaths ...
She came around so fast after that ....Piper is doing great . She is a terrific Momma does anyone have any advise on what I could have done in addition ? Or what should I be looking for with concern to Piper , pups in the next few days ?
I think I am keeping that last Puppy ...her name is Lucky :)

Wow! You are so brave! Perhaps it was your quick thinking that saved that baby girl! How are they doing now? Congratulations!

so far so good ...thanks , I think a sick sense took over me , i am still amazed that it turned out as it did . Pipers tummy feels empty almost no discharge her temp is 101.8 .
But she is not eating her kibble . I gave her some cottage cheese and an egg , that she took. any advise /?
Vet says to take her in for a check, I have a bad feeling about bringing those pups outside though

congrats on the puppies...sounds like you did a great job helping mommy bring those little ones into the world...wow...what a great thing to be thankful for on Thanksgiving....i hope you continued good luck....now we want to see pics ...please!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new little litter and for being such a brave and trustworthy helper for Piper. I hope all continues to go well for the new family....please keep us updated......and pictures, that would be nice:p
