? about pregnant yorkie  I have a couple of questions about my pregnant yorkie. I bread her on September 8,10, and 12. Do you figure 63 days from the first breed counting that day? Would you expect she would have them on November 9? She was small (3.4 lbs) before breeding and she is huge now compared to her original size. Her belly lumpy and I have been taking her temperature since October 7 which was 99.3, October 22 it was 99.7, October 28 was 99.3, and today it is 99.0. Isn't this temperature lower than normal? This morning I checked her nipples and there is milk already in the bottom four. Is this ok? Is it common to deliver early? At what point should she not be left alone? She has always been very needy and affectionate and I want to be there for her. Please give any advice you can. Thanks! |

Hi well you have come to the right place to ask questions! There are experience breeders on this site. If I were you I'd definitely do like the last poster said and take her to vet NOW! She is such a tiny lil girl. I think they recomend not to breed under 5 lbs My girl just had babies on Sunday, she is 7 lbs when not pregnant I wish you all the best! Let us know how it goes. 3.4 lbs...yikes!? That is waaaay too small to have even been bred. :( No offense, but these are all things that you should have been prepared for before breeding, not something to start worrying about a week before she is due. <sigh> But what's done is done...that being said... You should start counting from the date of the first tie. I would difinately not leave her alone and have a vet on standby and aware of the situation. It's not unheard of for a female to go a bit early, but not more than a week early! Have you had her x-rayed yet? If not I would have this done ASAP. It will give your vet a good indication if any of the pups appear to have developed to large to be delivered naturally...which is a very good chance given that she is so small. It's better to have some sort of heads up vs chancing it and having to rush a female in distress in for an emergency c-section. I'm not sure why you began taking her temperature a mere week after she was bred....? A sudden change in temp is not always present or evident with the onset of labor, so don't depend too much on that. The best advice I think you can be given at this point is to try to plan with your vet or a very experienced breeder to see if they can assist you during the whelp. Good Luck. |
