Temp is dropping! O.K. so we took Halle's temp yesterday evening at 5:17 pm it was 100.2 this morning at 10:48 it was 98.9 so we are looking at soon right? Does their temp ever fluctuate? I will check hers again about 5:30 this evening. Is that soon enough or should I do it every few hours? She is laying around a bit more today but not showing any other signs other than the temp. Sorry I don't mean to sound dumb but this is our first litter. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on and have been on the Debbie Jensen website everyday! Thanks everyone! Paula:) Halle:aimeeyork Brutis:aimeeyork |
Once the temp has dropped I usually take it again every hour until I'm sure that it's going to stay down. After that it's a waiting game and I am her shadow. She will probably have them in the wee hours of the morning. |
Hi Paula, Okay the temperature may fluctuate for a day or so. I had this happen with Maggies first litter. I was in the same boat you are now. First you need to take her temp the same time every day. if it drops to 97.8 or 97.9 then you should watch her for any other signs. I actually got fed up with her temp fluctuating and for the last 3 days didn't take it at all. Her and I spent those 3 days together nonstop. We were actually watching the 2nd Harry potter movie when after about 20 minutes I felt a contraction. So I got her in her box and talked to her while she was in hard labor. Other than removing the sac from the 2nd pup I didn't have to do hardly anything. here is another site with alot of info. Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia ~ Site Menu ~ Thousands of canine articles and links Hope this helps, |
I just took it @ 5:30 and it was 99.1, I'll take it again in about an hour and let ya know what it is. Paula:) |
I just took her temp again, it is 99.7. My thermometer directions say that a rectal reading is actually 1 degree higher than an oral reading. Anyway I'm so nervous but prepared thank God! She did eat a little bit earlier but mostly laying around sleeping which is probably good huh? Thanks you guys. Keep leaving comments please! I need all the help I can get! Paula:rolleyes: |
Paula it sounds like you have a little time left before she is ready. I would stay cose to her and she may throw up and/or go potty alot. Maggie ate right before she started labor and she threw up and pooped alot. Not saying this is what your girl will do. Did she have a mucousy discharge yet? |
No she hasn't had a discharge but since yesterday my little male is sniffing everywhere she sits or lays. Almost like he knows something is different or about to happen. Have any of your males done this? I only have the male and 1 female so I don't anything to compare to, you guys are so wonderful and knowledgable! I will keep ya posted throughout the day!:) Paula:p Halle:aimeeyork Brutis:aimeeyork |
At noon her temp is 98.4, I will take it again in an hour to see if it is going to stay down. Also she threw up a little bit earlier. She hasn't started to make a nest or anything though. |
Paula, I had only Maggie at the time when she had her first litter so I didn't know when she was ready either but like you i asked alot of questions and did alot of research. This time I am way more prepared and I won't have to ask lots of questions. I kept 2 males from her first litter but had them fixed because I was in no way going to have any accidents. But they knew when she was in heat and even now they know she is going through something. i looked at the charts I had of her temperature from her first litter and she fluctuated from 99 in the morning 100. in the afternoon and about 98 in the evenings. And even got as low as 97.9 but that was 3 days before she was due. So me personally I won't be doing the temp thing this time. 2 days before she was due she lost her mucus plug and then shortly before midnight the day before she was due she started having contractions. It's an awesome feeling, the only way I can describe it is like seeing a wave crash to shore or ripples when something is dropped in the water. I think the only thing that made me nervous was when the 2nd pup came out 9 minutes after the first one. She had the 1st pup at 12:12am and the last one at 1:57am. Just goes to show you that no matter how much you read or get advice from others it seems like there is always some surprise or heartbreak involved. Iknow this may not have helped but sometimes I get sentimental and tend to ramble. |
Lori, thanks so much for telling me that lil story. I need to hear stuff like that at this time. Halle's temp dropped to 98.4 today and stayed that way for 2 hours and the last time I took it was around 3:30 and it was back up to 99.9, so who knows? It might still be a few days:confused: anyways I'm just hanging in there and not leaving her alone at all. It's funny tho she has to be everywhere we are in the house which is normal but now she waddles and I have to smile but on the other hand I feel sorry for her 'cause I've went thru it with my 3 grown children, thanks again and please keep in touch I really appreciate you guys more than you know.:thumbs up Paula:p:yorkiesar:smileyfla |
Your welcome Paula. I am sitting here thinking how I can't wait til the puppies start really moving. Right now they move but it's not noticeable by looking so I lay there with my hand on her belly and feel a movement but then I wonder if it was really a movement or just my imagination. Although the food disappearing from the food bowl is not my imagination. i think this time I may turn Hubby's closet into the whelping area. I hope to hear news that all went well with Halle and her whelping. I will continue to check in and who knows I may have a few more stories for you. I find that it helps to take the mind of the task for a brief moment and then the female will relax. i had a friend who talked to me the entire time Maggie was whelping and it helped me relax and me relaxing helped her to relax. Maybe if you have a laundry basket or a plastic crate that you can take the top off of, you could put towels and if you have a peepad on the bottom put halle in it sit down, watch a movie and just lay your hand on her to let her know your there. Who knows you may just feel the first contraction. |
Well I posted this thread on the 20th and still no puppies:( so I guess it's going to be another day or two, I'll for sure keep posting here and let everybody know when we get new babies:p she is licking herself alot and still eating and drinking lots of water! I will try to stay calm cool and collected. Yeah right! I just hope she does well. She seems fine now. :yorkiesar:happyboun:dogwalk: Paula:D Halle:aimeeyork Brutis:aimeeyork |
Paula did you check the whelping calender to see about when she is due. |

Hi, I've been watching this and other of Paula's threads. From what I've read, Halle due date for whelping is tomorrow, October 23. |
Thanks, then more than likely she will start showing signs soon. |

 Amen! I think you've commented on a couple of my threads and you know I do too. But since I just went through this myself last week, I totally understand what OP is going through. I think you do a great job of helping people out, call it rambling, giving experiences, storytelling, details or whatever it is - It's great! :D And I think any OP would appreciate the time and substance you take when you answer. So good work! PaulaLowe6 - Congratulations on your first litter! Like I said above, I had mine last Wednesday, it was a first for me and her. I just reading your thread so I have some more to go. But don't worry, you both will be great. I'll keep following and don't forget to post pics when you have time after it all done. Can't wait!!! |
Thank you Georgia. My girl is due in a few weeks. Right now I am dealing with Allergies with her. Gotta take her in and get something for her that won't hurt the pups. |
Hey everyone:D Still no puppies:( I am positive without a doubt that the first tie was 8/20. I couldn't forget, it's actually a funny story. We were camping and hubby built a campfire, it got to be pretty dark, the dogs were under the picnic table, I looked down to check on them and there they were tied:eek: it must have been the romantic fire! hehe anyways just wanted to let ya know the latest she's acting about like she has been for the last couple of days alot of licking and laying around. Since we own the male it's hard to say, after just a few days tho, we separated them. Yesterday I didn't take her temp at all. Just got disgusted after it started fluctuating so much. I think I will go take it since today is the 23rd. By the way I just luv you guys! You make me feel so much better:thumbs up Paula:wavey::yelrotflm:yorkiesar:happyboun |
still no puppies?...well from your first tie...if she ovulated later it could still be a few days...probably this weekend sometime...good luck and keep us posted |

Reading you thread reminds me of the same thing I was going through with the temps, to the licking and laying around. You can even check out what the other YTer's were telling me that maybe haven't posted on here. It would give you maybe a little more reassurance. I will tell you that she never actually went into labor. She had very "light" contractions forever and never progressed and we took her in and she had a c-section. The vet told us that he would have liked her to come in sooner than we did. She never dilated and he said that it would have been dangerous if she had gone another day with the light contractions. He said 4-6 hours after she started having contractions I should have brought her in. Well I thought when he had told me before at a pre-checkup the thing about the 4-6 hours... my husband and I both thought he meant 4-6 hrs after harder labor started with her panting and stuff. He said dogs aren't like people (women) when they go into labor, they should progress fairly quickly, not do like women do and drag on for days. And Peaches never did pant. Just breathed harder during the contractions and she was just lying around. I can't remember, is she having contractions? and if so, for how long? Is your vet on stand by for the weekend? And in telling you all this about what my vet said.... all vets are different. So take what you want to know in this post and keep it, and what you don't want ..... throw it out. :D I am so excited for you. I was thinking something may be going on since you haven't been on since yesterday early afternoon. I am really hoping you are busy with new puppies and you don't have time for us right now. We'll be waiting, impatiently of course! ;) |

I really hope we hear something soon, like tonight! I know it was like 3 days before I could actually sit down and type something about Peaches puppies. I've been thinking about her a lot because our (her girl and my girl) labors are so much alike it's unreal. Maybe she got one of Peaches sister's from the same litter! nah..... :wave4: :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa |
64 Day.... No puppies! Hi Paula, sounds like you will have puppies at about the same time, Candy's first tie was 8/22 and today would have been the 64 days and still not sign of labor yet. Here is her temp chart, 14-Oct 54 100.00 15-Oct 55 100.00 16-Oct 56 100.00 17-Oct 57 100.00 18-Oct 58 99.70 19-Oct 59 99.80 20-Oct 60 98.60 21-Oct 61 99.60 22-Oct 62 100.30 23-Oct 63 100.30 24-Oct 64 99.70 25-Oct 65 26-Oct 66 temp drop to 98.6 on day 60, and I thought is time, but it was false alarm, it gone up again, she does have discharge , lay down a bit more but no other signs yet... I listen to the puppies heart beats and take her temp twice a day, I can even see the puppies moving in her stormach...it is so amazing! I am still waiting anxiously... Can anyone tell me if you will be able to see milk comes out from teats? if yes, when? or any other changes around belly area, etc... Thanks |
It's getting close!! Hi Paula, I just read all the posts and how exciting!! I am in the same boat with Izzy, she just isn't laboring yet...but she's losing her plug (a little at a time)...she's too big to really clean herself, it's so sad. You can literally sit there and watch the babies spin in their mommies belly. Perhaps we can send each other labor vibes...:D Izzy tied on Aug. 27th, they believe. My breeder did the tie for me, I was at work. So, I'm taking her word for it. But, my vet wants her to go soon...her babies are making her throw up, she says it's a queasy tummy. I look forward to hearing about Halle's puppies. It won't be too long now  Blessings and Prayers for safe delivery, Pam:D Izzy :aimeeyork and Iggly :animal-pa, Jiggly:animal-pa, and Wiggly:animal-pa |
Hi everyone! Still no puppies:( this is the weirdest thing. I did the temp thing earlier today and it was 98.4 for about 3 hours then all of a sudden a few minutes ago it was 99.2. I just got on the computer a lil bit ago and you guys have been leaving posts again:D just because you're concerned that is totally awesome! I owe you all a great big:thumbs up this is the most wonderful place to be! I think I would be lost without all of you!:p Hope that doesn't sound too weird:confused: anyway Halle is laying on hubbys leg as usual. Today is 65 days from 1st tie. It has to be soon RIGHT? I will keep you informed on her development:confused: Paula:yorkiesar:hearts-en |
By the way Pam I LUV your names for the new furbabies! That is too cute:p Paula |
it could be that the first tie was a little too soon...she could have ovulated later....and the sperm can live up to five days ....so she might be as long as the 27th to the 30th....good luck...either way you are in the home stretch.....good luck |
Thanks:) I don't know how much longer I can take this:eek: Oh well I guess this is just a part of the amazing results:) She (Halle) is fine! So I should be too right?:) Again thanks so much! Paula |
Paula, Go have a cup of tea and relax. I think someone already said a watched pot never boils. It's funny because here you are wanting something to start happening and in about 16 days I am going to be going through the same thing. Hey here's something to think about. Human females go through 9 months of pregnancy. It takes that long for everything to develop and grow. Okay now we know that it only takes 9 weeks for puppies to develop and grow. Now granted babies are bigger than puppies. But just think if human females were able to cut the pregnancy time to 9 weeks and have the babies grow and develop that fast do you think the world would be way overpopulated or would people be more apt to use birth control? On the other hand I am just glad we don't have the gestation time of an elephant, or a baby that big. |
Lori:p you are the best! I will brew the tea:D Good luck with your babies too! I think I just get so excited that I don't know what to do with myself. I have given birth to 3 grown sons I'll tell ya it was nothing like THIS:eek: the waiting is O.K. my tea is ready hehe:p |
Well Thank you. I had alot of time to contemplate the strangest things just waiting for Maggie to have her first litter and going on very little sleep. I lost a few pounds because I ate toast and drank coffee. This time however I am going to rent a couple movies ,set up the video camera so all I have to do is press record, and make sure there is plenty of Mt. Dew in the fridge. and then Maggie and me we settle in to watch movies til she decides it's time. You will do great. Just think by the time she starts having them you will have gotten through all your nervousness and you will do what you need to do. I cried when the first one was coming out. It just was such a wonderful experience. then 9 mins later Dante came out and I had to get him cleaned up and and get the suction going and right then I just knew he was the one that was staying. Now he was the smallest at 5.5 ozs and is currently the biggest one at 12.5 lbs. But he is my Mama's boy through and through. |
