still same thing ...not panting but breathing heavy no pushing but digging and hidding under blanket... called the vet she leaves at 8pm just in case...and called the emergency vet...open 24hours to walk in ...he said something about a shot of oyxtocin...(i think) to get labor going in a couple of hours...What do you all think of that? |

I agree with Breny. No oxi. Do you have any calcium or calsorb you can give her? |

You will be able to tell when she is in hard labor and pushing hard. Has she had any pushes yet at all? It sounds like everything is going fine :) |
i have tums asside should i give it to her now. not pushing yet. just took her for a walk and put her back |
Another thing I do is once pushing labor begins I give her a bit of nutrical every so often to keep her strength up. I also make a whelping pudding and feed her that through the labor and give it to her after as well, to give the added calcium. One other thing...all my girls have thrown up as labor progresses. |
Hi... I took a quick peek here earlier today while at work and thought I would miss this whole whelp. Will stay tuned to this thread for news and will pray that all goes smoothly for you and Felicity. Has she eaten anything or much today? Lexie wouldn't eat her breakfast the morning she had her pups.....she did some shivering and quite a bit of nesting the hour or two before the first pup arrived. How's she doing now? |
she is in the whelping box and rearranges the towels and blanket. i havent seen contractions recently but then again i keep going in and out of the room because im getting the children ready for bed. she did not eat or drink anything except her treat when i took her out.. but not any of her food. I just gave her a tiny bit of vanilla ice cream she seems like she is thirsty and refuses to take water. She look scared and no panting..I justed looked at her vulva and there is a clear mucus discharge(small amount) is that her plug? Will she start to go into heavy labor soon? temp has been steady around 98 or so since 8am this morning with the initial drop at 3am. I cant go to sleep and have been up the past 2 nights every hour or so. I hope its soon and im so worried for her. How long should i wait till i call vet? or what can i do? do i give her tums for calcium now or after first pup? or not at all? |
Only give her the tums if the contractions seem to be puttering out and unable to do their job. It sounds like she is in early labor. I would guess that the harder stuff that she pulled off of her vulva yesterday was her plug, at least the external portion of it. I know your tired, you've had quite a week or two, but hang in there you're on the home stretch. Carly had 2 pups and never panted. They are all different so you just have to watch her and follow her lead. |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/1323848-post7.html I'm not sure about the tums....I've never done that. My girl totally surprised me with her whelp a week before they were expected! The ice cream is a good idea in small doses, water if you can get her to take it (even if just licking if off your fingers). And the whelping pudding recipie in the attached link is great and Lexie REALLY liked it. I only used it after she finished whelping, but didn't know any better back then and wished I would have used it during also. Lexie I think got so tired during her whelp and her contractions stopped before the last pup was born. It was then that we took her to the e-vet for a shot of oxytocin. From what you're describing, I'd say you will have pups tonight....but it could be a long night for you. Better put the coffee on. If it'd make you feel better, you could call the vet to let them know what's going on, but so far I think she's okay. Only if she is in hard labor for a long period of time with no pups would be when I would start to worry. Hope this helps. Try not to worry so much and stay calm. Felicity can sense your emotions and if you worry, so will she (so to speak). |
i just wanted to get in on this so i will the headline "babies!!" :D |
How are we doing??? |
I'm about to go to bed for the night, but just wanted to say good luck. :goodluck:Hopefully in the morning I will be reading about your new 4-legged arrivals. |
Wondering what's happening. Hope all is going smoothly! |
