Lexi is due - Hurricane Gustav hit us - no electricity
 

Hi all,
I live in Bourg, LA 12 miles from the coast & 2 miles from Houma, LA.
Yes the eye of the Hurricane hit us.
We evacuated to a Caddo Lake Cabin in Uncertain, Texas. (west of Shreveport, LA) with 5 Yorkies & Lexi is pregnant and is due on the 14th in one week.
Hurricane Ike is heading straight for us now!!!
The Vet's offices are NOT OPEN here!!!
I need to know that you gals & guys can HELP me if needed

I have my Whelping Supplies ready BUT No Whelping Pudding
I found a recipe from Mardelin - i have the ingredients but eggs. Should that be OK???
1 can of goats milk
equal parts of filtered water
1 egg
1 Tablespoon light corn syrup

We got home yesterday to No Electricity, No Running Water, No Sewage & No Phone service & Barely Cell Phone service!!!
We now have everything back but Electricity - Rumors are 3 weeks or more!!!
We are trying our best to not crack under pressure. This has to be the most stressful time of my life worring about Lexi in her last 2 weeks of pregnancy.
Stormy & Kylee have been fighting like cats & dogs since we left a week ago.
The 3 youngest get car sick - my Vet recommended no food or water 10 hrs before leaving & give them Benidryl. only one vomited on the way to Texas.
We had to bring Lexi to Marshall Animal Hospital Friday for her X-rays - 5 puppies - he said she should not have a problem with the pups sizes.

Our Home weather the Hurricane very well. We lost shingles, facia board, vinyl boxing, parts of our wooden fence, 2 trees, parts of the swimming pool deck.
The house was suppossed to be going on the Real Estate market last week - so we can start building our new house. OH Well - more delays!!!

Wow Kim - when it rains (literally), it pours!! Don't have any advice, but wanted to wish you all the best and sending prayers for an uneventful delivery for Lexi with healthy pups.....

Yes it pours!!! We had been fixing up the house to sell for about 1 month & have to start all over again!
My husband kinda fixed the fence today with some chicken wire in the broken areas.
The furbabies finally got to run & play in the yard - they had a blast!!!
Pour babies had to be on leashes the whole 7 days we were gone at the lake.

And pour Lexi has been doing very well for the evacuation week.
I made up Lexi's whelping box today & she is laying in it right now.
I forgot to mention Lexi is due on her 3rd birthday (Sept 14th)!!!

WOW, I am glad you and your family are ok.... We got a major pounding up here i n Baton Rouge too... my house did ok, lost trees and my moms house got a little roof damage... we are on generators still here too, it has been quite a ride!

we lost our running water again today!
Lexi is doing fine!!!
My Vet has another office in Raceland in Lafource Parish & they have electricity.
I will be calling there tomorrow to see if they will be open - just to have a plan if an emergency arrives with delivery.

God bless you Kim, I can't imagine what you are going through. I was worried about Ike hitting us, looks right now that it will miss us. Just don't know how you guys can take another one. Lots of prayers for all of you.

I tell you what - it has been very hard BUT at least we still have a Home.
Don't know what will happen with Ike coming in the gulf.

If you have to evacuate, where will you go? Worried about you.

We will go back to the Jefferson,Texas / Caddo Lake in Uncertain,Texas.
My dads family lives there.
I hope we can get the same cabin at Caddo Lake!
It's just so far away - it normally takes us 6 hrs to get there.
BUT it took 9 1/2 hrs to get there for evacuatation.

If it follows the same path as now, I would leave in the morning. Hope you get the same cabin, stay safe. Have you been on our other website, 4WomenTalk.com?
There are a lot of nice people that are going through this too.

I didn't know about another website.
I will check it out
we will wait untill it hits the edge of the gulf for a more accurate forcast.

your babies are beautiful. Is Ressie a chocolate yorkie? I pray that you guys are safe. We use to go the Caddo Lake and camp when we lived in Texas. We use to live in the Dallas area and enjoyed Caddo Lake alot. Hate that you have to go there in in such uncertain times.

Caddo Lake is so beautiful & relaxing.
We also spent every summer when I was a child at The Lake of the Pines a few miles from there.

Lexi's temp is 1 degree higher today.
It's gonna be sooner than the 14th.
I just hope not too soon.

Electricity is back on tonight!

Can't wait to hear about puppies!

Stormy has been a handful on the evacuation trip.
Stormy & Kylee were fighting for blood alot.
They have never fought like that before.
My husband & each had a bloody finger from breaking up the fights.
Poor babies were so stressed out.
They all are so happy to be home. Just happy playing with their toys & running in the back yard!
They all are back to normal now. Thank God!!!

Lexi's temp is down 2 degrees this morning from last night.

hopefully puppies soon! Can't wait. We had puppies this Jan. We kept one and he is beautiful. I had such a wonderful time with the birth and taking care of ea. of them. Alot of work though. My neighbor has one of my little guys and everytime he hears my laugh he goes crazy. I am the only one outside of their family that he climbs up into my lap. I can't almost get him away from me. He is so cute. Keep us posted. Deb

Good luck on Lexi's upcoming whelp! She is very pretty......her coloring is alot like my Lexie. I'll continue to keep an eye on this thread watching for the happy news.

Hi...I hope your little one is doing good. I am in New Iberia, LA...not fun to evacuate....we had 3 dogs and 8 puppies....so hard. We have a few things that are damaged here too but thankful at the same time. I am praying IKE elsewhere. Take care..if you need yell at me...lol.

OMG thats alot of babies to evacuate with!
& I thought I had alot with 5 yorkies.
I tell you the hardest part was stopping on the trip every 2-3 hours worrying if your gonna find gasoline on the way. Then potty breaks with them on 5 leashes!!! every one of them want to go in different directions & twisting all the leashes up & getting their lil legs caught in the leash every 10 seconds!!!

Well Lexi's temp is back down this morning.
I am so confused???

I have been taking Lexi's temp with a human digital thermometer rectally - I can't find a dog digital themometer here - petsmart has no electricity yet.
I don't know if I am supposed to add a degree or 2 BUT
Here are the temps i have taken:

SAT
11:15 am = 99.3
SUN
8 pm = 100.4
MON
8 am = 98.4
3 pm = 98.0
7 pm = 100.1
TUES
7 am = 98.5

this is confusing me because her temp goes up 2 degrees at night & back down in the morning???

Any thoughts on this???

There are a number of things that can cause temperature changes. If your bitch needs to potty then you might get a higher temperature or if your bitch has not eaten recently her blood sugar may be low and that will cause a lower temperature. I have often had my bitches run a lower temperature in the morning and by noon it would be back up to normal. I know this is frustrating. I do pray that you have a safe whelping.
