AKC sent me a letter today stating that my bitch's DNA is NOT a match to her SIRE.
 
Can anyone tell me if anything like this has happened to them?

Today, I got a letter from the AKC and it stated that a bitch I purchased from a breeder in Cicero, Indiana three year ago has the wrong sire. They said that they just did a DNA reference test on one of the litter mates from the same litter as my bitch, and it was NOT a match. They have told me to send them a sample of my bitch's DNA as some litters have different sires from the same litter, but for now my AKC registration is void until the breeder can provide the correct information to them regarding the true sire. We are very worried. Can anyone advise?

I hope someone has some advise for you. I would be worried to. Have you contacted the breeder?

I have NOT heard from the breeder for almost a year. I have continuously sent emails to keep her updated on the dog which I sent to the only email address I had, and she has never replied. I am going to try to send a certified letter to her home address with a copy of the AKC letter attached and hope I get an answer. I spoke with a AKC representative this morning on the Phone and they told me that they have sent the breeder a request for validation to this problem too. They told me that I could not register any litter from this female in the future or even show her in conformation. I am scared, we paid $1,500 for her, and now we have no registration.

I am so sorry. I know you must be shocked!! I hope there is someone with some advise for you. I haven't had my babies very long so I am new to the whole AKC thing myself. You might want to try to do some research on the breeder. See if you can find anyone else having the same problem. Mabey then you will have better luck getting something done about it.

:aimeeyork This happened to me also...except mine was a puppy. By the time I found out there was a problem I was in love with my little girl. Basically I was had and my little girl is not registrable, unless I can figure out who the sire was on my own. Which is impossible without the help of the parties I purchased her from.

I did have this happen. I did have contact with the breeder and she said the paper work had gotten mixed up and it would be rectified shortly. I know the breeder went out of business shortly thereafter. She said it was because of her health and all the stress caused by this situation. Unfortunately, my girl died before it got straightened out so I don't know how it would have ended. I just let it go. Sylvia

Some breeders seem to have trouble keeping their paperwork straight, judging from the number of suspensions for these issues. It could be that your female will be registerable, with a different sire. What a shame your breeder is not being responsive.

Does AKC say that they will try to match your female's DNA with another sire owned by the breeder if you send them a sample?? If they can match it, I would hope they would issue you a corrected registration certificate. Best wishes with this problem.

I agree. I didn't feel good until I let it go.

I was timed out trying to edit the previous post...not a real typist.

I have a breeder friend that had this situation come up and she was certain AKC had it wrong. She had to retest each male and several females to solve the mystery. At some point she or one of her helpers had mixed up two puppies and placed them into the wrong litters. It doesn't seem possible and she was certain it didn't happen....but it did. The other possibility is that more than one sire bred the Dam. The best thing to hope for would be that the other puppy was misplaced into the litter your puppy came from.

You will probably have to have your girl tested either way. Just pray that none of them has passed away after being bred.

I had that happen once too. Only it was me who did it. I thot I could figure out which puppy belonged to which mother but I had let too much time pass before I marked down the changes the puppies were going thru. I just sold them without papers. Sylvia

I'm sorry this happened to you. I doubt after a year of emails she won't return your mail, and knows she did something wrong.

Sorry that this has happened to you. I would say the first step would be to some how get a hold of the breeder. Can you visit her residence? If not a certified letter should get you started. Good luck.

Thanks, thats a good idea. I am ordering a DNA kit to be sent to the AKC. I am sure they will try to help solve this mystery.

Tell you what....This list has been very helpful regarding my subject. I have found several other folks who have had similar issues. However, I am reading that most of the time AKC won't do anything on your behalf to rectify the problem. It seems that is totally up to the breeder or the owner to hash out together, so I am not holding my breath so to speak. However, I would like to try and resolve it if I can.
