:cool:quick question on whelping while i wait for arrival
from the time they start nesting...... how long til first pup.. from your personal experience?

Doo Doo started nesting the night before. Between 10 and 12 the next morning we had 6 pups.

I don't think there's anything set in stone on this one....

If she's nesting "wildly", that's usually a tip that she's within an hour... maybe less - - of delivering.... but some dogs will nest like that for days before even beginning labor.

I think it's easier to determine onset of a whelp by other behaviors of the bitch.... panting, pacing, contractions... that "concerned" look in her eyes, etc.

Congrats on your upcoming arrival!! Will be watching for updates as the day progresses!! :)

Lots of prayers for a smooth delivery and a happy family at the end of the day! :)

Based on my one and only time dealing with this, I would agree completely with the above statement. Chloe nested for about 2 days, but when she looked almost frantic - I knew that it was very close.

As I was told by many of the breeders on here, it is important to pay attention to the part when she begins to push. More specifically, you want to make sure that she isnt pushing and straining for more than an hour - two hours (depending on who you ask). You will see her neck stretch and if you look, you can tell that there are some contractions/pushing going on.

she has the frantic type... she wants me to stay with her
and she wants to be in her whelping box
in the west wing:cool:

Chloe wanted to be around me while she was nesting (even for the two days prior). However, I didnt notice any diarrhea until the night before she had the puppies. Also, when she was frantic she was running around from one side of the bed to the other then back to her whelping area, making sure that my fiance and I were awake, panting, and really digging. If Lucy is anything like Chloe, you will absolutely know when it is about to happen. There seemed to be a much more significant change about her.

the loose stool i think was a significant sign...
they have to clean out with the pressure of contractions
her behavior too..

when the babies come down the birth canal... they enter the horns...
then they can be felt along the back areas toward the tail?
is this right?
cuz lucy is wanting her back massaged.. and the pressure is in the rump:)

:confused:What I've read says the same.....after an hour of hard contractions and no puppy, see the vet. You could try doing traction on her belly timed with a contraction. What you do is firmly stroke downward (toward the rear legs) as she has a contraction to help her deliver. If that doesn't work, the vet is likely your next option.

I would just rub what she wants rubbed....she knows what feels good to her. Sounds like she is being very clingy...that is normal. Just try to comfort her in any way. She has no idea why she hurts so bad right now.

When my girl had her babies. I would help her by putting pressure around her vulva with my finger tips. Not too hard but enough to help give some levrage(sp?) It helped. She had been crying before I did it and then she stopped when I would help her through the contractions.

I do agree that it is very close....the poops always came when delivery ws eminant!!!!!!!!!!

i agree... :)
im taking lucy for vet visit and an xray at 3p
i hope its not a travelling delivery
i better take my emergency whelping kit:)
