lucy nesting :cool:quick question on whelping while i wait for arrival from the time they start nesting...... how long til first pup.. from your personal experience? thanks jenny:) |
Doo Doo started nesting the night before. Between 10 and 12 the next morning we had 6 pups. |
I don't think there's anything set in stone on this one.... If she's nesting "wildly", that's usually a tip that she's within an hour... maybe less - - of delivering.... but some dogs will nest like that for days before even beginning labor. I think it's easier to determine onset of a whelp by other behaviors of the bitch.... panting, pacing, contractions... that "concerned" look in her eyes, etc. Congrats on your upcoming arrival!! Will be watching for updates as the day progresses!! :) Lots of prayers for a smooth delivery and a happy family at the end of the day! :) |

As I was told by many of the breeders on here, it is important to pay attention to the part when she begins to push. More specifically, you want to make sure that she isnt pushing and straining for more than an hour - two hours (depending on who you ask). You will see her neck stretch and if you look, you can tell that there are some contractions/pushing going on. Good luck! Sending a prayer your way. |
12 hours? Quote:

uterine horns another question.. thanks for all the great answers and prayers when the babies come down the birth canal... they enter the horns... then they can be felt along the back areas toward the tail? is this right? cuz lucy is wanting her back massaged.. and the pressure is in the rump:) poor baby..what a trooper:aimeeyork |
previous post :confused:What I've read says the same.....after an hour of hard contractions and no puppy, see the vet. You could try doing traction on her belly timed with a contraction. What you do is firmly stroke downward (toward the rear legs) as she has a contraction to help her deliver. If that doesn't work, the vet is likely your next option. copied this post as reminder to myself.. the traction mentioned above... should that be done along the back or the belly? :aimeeyork |
I would just rub what she wants rubbed....she knows what feels good to her. Sounds like she is being very clingy...that is normal. Just try to comfort her in any way. She has no idea why she hurts so bad right now. When my girl had her babies. I would help her by putting pressure around her vulva with my finger tips. Not too hard but enough to help give some levrage(sp?) It helped. She had been crying before I did it and then she stopped when I would help her through the contractions. I do agree that it is very close....the poops always came when delivery ws eminant!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck :p |
Good Luck and please keep us update!! We all love puppies!! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

early labor Quote:
i think she will be ok but i expect them in 12- 36 hours :animal36 i think she is in early labor.. so hard labor is hours away ( not days) i hope  when women are in labor, it starts slow and far apart. then gets closer and strionger so i expect the dogs are the same with labor:aimeeyork |

time to catch up just my luck.. bailey will go first but that would be fine too:) |
Did you breed her with your splitter? Just curious. Good luck to mom and babies. |
surprise [QUOTE=cesar49;2127003]i agree... :) im taking lucy for vet visit and an xray at 3p just got back sad but true lucy loo has a psuedo pregnancy with lactation xray shows no puppies she had me fooled for sure this is good news though the ride is over for me and lucy so glad i went to the vet... diets and exercise all around.... but.. i do believe sadie might be pregnant due sept 5 so puppy watch continues __________________ Purchasing from backyard breeders, pet shops, and puppymills perpetuates the suffering of other dogs. |
Hey, I am so sorry for you news, but happy to hear that Lucy is safe and sound. It may be tough on her though, as she may think that she does have puppies on the way. I know it must be tough for you too, as you were expecting some little darlings soon! It sounds like there will be some in less than two months though, so that is quite exciting. At least you can now get a full night sleep! I hope everyone, including Lucy, is okay. |
There is a possbility she can develp pyometra. Your vet can give you antibotics as a preventative |
I know you must be disappointed. I am so sorry. Hopefully Sadie will come through for you. |
Awwwwwwww, I'm so sorry... what a let down for both of you. :( Take good care of each other... glad Lucy is alright and I hope she doesn't "mourn her loss"... :( |
Thanks to all for listening to me go on and on i will watch lucy to see if she does any more weird stuff pyometra would not be good i will keep a close eye on her live and learn im sure i have puppies in the future at least i learned the truth how embarassing:) |
Please, don't be embarrased. A false pregnancy can mimic a real one in many ways. By the way, not to get your hopes up, my friend was told her yorkie was having a false pregnancy but didn't and delivered pups. I assume they listened for heartbeats. I'm sure you are disappointed and I'm so sorry about that. Glad to hear sadie is expecting. |
Oh, dont be embarassed! Unless you have an ultrasound or Xray, the only other way to tell is if Lucy said that she could feel the pups kicking. Now, assuming that Lucy is in fact a dog that cannot talk, I would say that the mistake has been made by many many people! Nothing to be embarassed about. :D |
An ultrasound or xray can be of great assistance before the whelping date. You have an idea of how many puppies to expect or if the size is going to be a problem. |
Babies Absorbed I've read about the puppies being absorbed by the mother...sounds strange but several posts about it...could that have happened? hope lucy is doing well today...and you too! :aimeeyork |
