Need Help!!! I am not sure she is in labor or what.. Bridget is shaking badly and trying to hid her face. She keeps pushing her face into the ground.. This si day 64 Can eclampsia set in before they whelp, I have not been dosing her with calcium cause I thought it was bad before... Some one please help me, if you know what this could be |
I would say you are going to have puppies really soon, shaking & panting come with contractions. Have you been taking her temp regularly? Good luck & best wishes for a smooth whelp! |
Also, a website that helped me was Debbie Jensen's website, she lists stages of labor & what to look out for in case of problems... Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies. |
keep an eye on her and if you see bright blood that could be a sign of eclampsia from what i understand...sounds like contractions to me....let me try to find some breeders online that i can send to this thread |
Marlee, what is she doing now. Females can get eclampsia while pregnant if they are not eating well. Have you taken her temperature? You need to see what her temperature is. With eclampsia it will go real high. |
Eclampsia CAN happen prior to delivery. Chattie had hypocalcemic episode 2 weeks prior to delivery. |
Marlee, I would not give the calcuim yet. Too much calcuim can cause some serious problems as well. Have you taken Bridget's temperature? |
Marlee has Bridget shown any signs of pushing? |
Sorry, we were on the phone with the vet. Her temp is at 99, and her heart rate is normal, the shakeing is still happening but the vet said that she thinks we are just in early labor, as she did eat only 1 hour before this happened. Bridgets diet has been good, but odd latley as she only eats so little vet had said no big deal, but I am worried. The shaking seems to be in the shoulder area more than anything, she is trying to rest. No pushing as of yet, but maybe puppies today after all... |

no digging, no panting as of yet. She had one little beofre but it was only 3 |
You might want to give her a little corn syrup and water. I have had females tremble like that when labor starts. You know it hurts. They have to dilate so much before the babies can come out. If she wants to get up and walk around you need to let her. Usually when the labor starts they need to go pee and potty frequently. I pray she does well. |
did you have an x-ray this time...if so how many did it show...... |
i have heard that vanilla ice cream is good to give...:) |
Let's go Bridget:cheer::cheer::cheer: let's go |
she must have dial up...she keeps logging off and back on |
All the best for a smooth whelp like mine today!!! Cleo didn't even whimper or anything. She did only have one wee boy though. Thanks for your help lastnight too! :aimeeyork Go bridget go!!! :) |
Sorry everyone, I am on regular cable internet, do not know why it is logging me out. Nothing yet, she does look bigger in the vulva area, like it is swelling a bit, so I am going to assume we will be having puppies sometime inthe next several hours. I will keep everyone posted. Still no pushing, but the shaking has relaxed some thanks again |
sounds like we are getting closer |
Taking my son out to eat and will be back to check in! Good luck! Sounds like it's getting close!!!! |
Good Luck! |
Marlee how is she doing?....more digging and panting?????????? |
She is walking around, she looks miserable. Temp went up to 99.4, then back down to 99, so it is all over the place. She kinda whimps as she is laying there so I know she is not feeling the greatest. Vet wants to see her first thing in the morning if she does not go tonight. But she seems to think it will be a go... we will see!!! |
Aww poor baby girl :( How is she doing now? It sounds like she is nervous and uncomfy too . Please keep us updated tonight. I'm staying up really late tonight and will check in every 40 min or so. Do you know how many she's having? Genie,Cookie,Lola & Angel |
she has some clear liquid like discharge, not a lot, but is definitely a bit drippy... I am not sure if I am paying way closer attention or what.. Is this normal, I know they have the stringy type discharge earlier, but this is different consistency |
Holding good thoughts for ya!! Heres hoping for an easy safe whelp!:) |
yes..the clear mucusy discharge is normal... |
Wishing you well on this whelp. |
