Advice if I should breed my 5.1 lbs. yorkie with a morkie I have a 5.1 lbs. female yorkie who is 14 months old and we are getting a male morkie who will be 8 weeks old at the end of June which is when we are getting him. We were thinking of breeding the morkie with our female yorkie. The parents of the morkie that we are getting is a 6lb maltese which is the mother and the father is a 3lb. yorkie. The male morkie that we are thinking of getting is the smallest of the litter for his weight at 4 weeks was 11 oz. and the other male morkie was 14 oz. at 4 weeks. I'm not sure what their actual full size weight will be When they are fully grown, Would anyone have an estimate idea? Do you think this is ok for my 5.1 lbs. female yorkie? |
Saying this gently.... MOST breeders here do not approve of mixing breeds. |
breeding Since you asked for opinions, mine is..No, I do not think it is okay for your 5.1Yorkie female to breed with a Morkie. |

How about another yorkie? We know a few yorkies in the area whom we can have them mate. Our concern is mostly if 5.1 lbs is safe for her to breed once. We know of a male yorkie who's weight is 3 lbs. |
no is my opionion, why would you want a mix breed? And secondly, even if you get a small male, if he has larger dogs in his line your little girl is still at risk. Its more than just having a small male, you need to know the male and female's past generations. |
breeding Why do so many pet owners think a bitch wants to experince gestation, whelping and raising a litter? The owner does, not the dog... Dogs are perfectly happy never reproducing and how do I know this??? I have had many females and males who never reproduced and they were happy as clams! Dogs do not sit around regretting lost opportunities to have children... Having said that...no one can tell you if it is safe to breed your girl, you will have to take that chance and see if all goes well....best wishes |

Doing this for the "motherhood" experience is a serious mistake. No dog needs to experience motherhood. We breed to a standard, a higher quality of Yorkie, to mix on purpose is something most of us have a serious distaste for. Do you want to risk a c-section or the death of your beloved dog? :confused:It can happen even if all things look right. We had a great bitch in Monroe, she was beautiful and best we had seen in a long time. When it was finally time to breed her all things went to HE**. It looked like she could deliver on her own, and all the puppies were small enough to fit through the birth canal, yet when the whelp began something was wrong, the baby was stuck sideways in the birth canal, she was rushed in for an emergency c-section (1500 BTW) to deliver 4 pups, then 4 weeks later she had another serious condition of eclampsia, which again nearly took her life, and left me raising 4 pups on my own not to mention another 500 dollar vet bill, this is on top of my stud fees. Then there was the added expense of babies and their vet care, and the problems of puppy formula for 4 dogs, that alone cost over 150 for two weeks of formula. My last litter with Bridget one of the pups became extremely ill with pneumonia, he was rushed into the er and after 4 days there and 4000 we had a sickly pup to care for, he is fine now, but I had to care for him until he was 3 months as mom refused him. Does it always go wrong no... but do you really want to chance your dogs life for her to experience being a mom? Are you ready to have a puppy die in your hands? Are you ready to lose you momma dog if things go badly? Can you afford the added expense of the unknown. It is not all peaches and cream, we do this because we love the breed. I would never mix a dog on purpose and add to the problem of overpopulation. I think you should also consider that the puppies need to be cared for for 10-12 weeks and it is a stinky job at times literally. The mess they make is unbelievable and you have to stay on top of it. I just think you should consider all the things and all the possibilities before you breed. I know I looked at it long and hard, and I still had one bitch that did not work out. No dog needs to be a mom, the owner just wants them to be:rolleyes: Sorry if I offend you, but this was my experience and MOHO |
Since you asked for an opinion I have to say mine is No! I do not like to see mixed breedings. There are already so many people breeding designer dogs which I am against so why add to that. If you feel you want to breed do it responsibly to better a breed standard instead of adding to an already over produced problem. |

I don't agree with mixing breeds either with so many dogs in shelters these days....but most people will go and do what they want to do so good luck to you and I hope you make the right decision. |
I strongly suggest NOT to breed her. Think of "her". |

If I were you I would NOT breed her to a mix breed dog and have more mix breed puppies. The HSUS says that 3-4 million animals are killed in shelters each year. It is very doubtful that your female want's to experience motherhood. I say PLEASE spay/neuter your dogs and just enjoy and love them. I hope you make the right choice and fix your babies!!!! :) |
I agree with everyone else. Please don't. There are so many being put down everyday and running loose. They are passing a law here that every breeder will have to pay 70.00 per intac dog they are breeding, plus a I believe it was 500.00 breeder's fee. Anyway they are going to try to do something about the over population of unwanted dogs. So please, please reconsider. |
Thank you all for your advice. After hearing all this I don't think I want to put my baby girl in danger we love her so much and it's because we love her so much we wanted more of her as well. Everyone that comes over our house loves Chanel and they ask if we ever breed her they want a pup of hers cause she is just so happy and friendly with everyone all the time. Well wish us luck with our new morkie, although he's a mix he is just so cute and we can't refuse him now, my son has his heart set on him as with us and besides he'll be great company for Chanel to play with. |
