Question about Breeder
 
Has anyone heard of yorkie breeder Fred and Marcia Wolpert? Any help would be appreciated.

I know that they show dogs but they also offer puppies for sale.

Any information would be appreciated. Thank You for your responses.

I have heard of them in the Maryland area, and I think they were on my list of breeders to call when we were searching, however I never made contact with them.

You should try googling them, if you haven't, sounds like they have won lots of shows.

from the list you sent me! I sent them an e-mail before I got BeBe but they never responded.

I googled them and got a lot of information on their winnings and such. I am not familiar with show points at all so I may not be saying it correctly.

I guess I should have asked if anyone knows of their reputation of selling puppies. They definitely show and they have a boarding kennel in MD. I have spoken with them. After learning so much on this website on what to ask, I was surprised at their responses. Not really anything negative but certainly different from what everyone on YT suggests as far as purchasing from a reputable breeder.

I got their names from YTCA. They are local to me. I have spoken with them and I can tell that they are very much into their dogs and shows, I was more curious about their selling of their pups. Did you find a pup before calling them?

Yea, I am having that same issue with the names on the list. I am really surprised of the responses that I have gotten back from those that I have emailed (none) and then those that I have spoken with. Not really anything negative but left with probably more questions than before talking with them. Does that make any sense?

The Wolperts have been showing and breeding for years. I have only seen their dogs in Yorkie Tales and The Yorkshire Terrier magazine and they look like nice dogs. But that is the only thing I know about them.

When I asked about a health guarantee 2 of the breeders listed made me feel as though I had 2 heads. They just could not understand what I was asking. When I explained that I was researching and a lot of contracts that I had seen had this, they didn't understand what the purpose of that was. They both just said that they raised healthy dogs and bred healthy dogs-period.

I am sure that with their association with the club and them showing their dogs, they do strive to breed healthy dogs however, I would like to know that I have some type of insurance against any issues.

I don't want to put a negative vibe on any of the breeders in a public forum and I really don't have any negative to say about them, I guess I was just very surprise at how the conversations went. The ones that I spoke with obviously take care of their dogs since they do have champions. Am I being overly sensitive? I guess I just have read so many warm and caring posts from the breeders on YT that I expected all breeders to be this way. Am I wrong?

Sometimes really good breeders don't really raise that many dogs, and often there is a waiting list for their dogs. They seem to interview the prospects more than they are interviewed, maybe they think their reputation should say enough. You have to remember they get many calls from would-be breeders, and probably are very weary. I found that many warm up after the initial call.

I know the Wolpert name. Due to their show stature and reputation I doubt seriously they expect their breeding program to be questioned. I would expect most of their puppies are sold via wait list and/or others in the show circuit.

I can understand totally understand that they don't know me from anyone else calling. It was made very clear that registration would be limited and I made sure to let them know in the first 30 seconds that my little man was neutered. The amount of shows that I have seen just from goggling tells me that they are definitely doing the right things by the dogs. We've not ruled them out for this reason; I'd just like to feel as though I am being a responsible perspective new owner.

I was a member of the MD club for decades and know the Wolperts...they are reputable, sincerely dedicated to the breed. Fred is not the easiest of people to talk with..he is very wealthy and loves to tell everyone what his money has bought him..loves to brag about his Yorkies...but that is Fred...I never paid attention to the bragging...they are honest, caring breeders as far I have have seen...

The Wolperts have very nice dogs! I see them every year in NY and the win alot in NY also! I recommend then even tho I do not know them personally.

The Wolperts were very nice to me. The yorkies I have are very gentle and nice. I would buy a puppy from them again. My Mabel is very smart. I just got her back. She was stolen from my yard last weekend. My daughter told me to get posters with a reward out right away and I would get my dog back. Well, she was right. They waited two terrible nights and teenagers called me and they gladly took the money. My daughter said teens do that all the time.:mad:

That's terrible! I am glad that you got her back. You must have been worried sick.

Unfortunately the puppy I was talking with them about was sold to someone else.

I'm real nervus about letting them out now. I have a doggie door that they just loved. They love going into the back yard. I thought it was safe. It's very puppy poof but not kidnapper proof.
I would wait for another puppy to be avalible from the Wolperts. They treat those dogs like royalty. I remember she would cook for the dogs. I just started doing that and they are doing so much better with their energy and digestion.:animal36

Fred and Marcia (i think Im spelling that right) are really nice people with beautiful dogs. I see them all the time at shows, their dogs are always winning. Fred has always helped and answered my questions if have any

I know a girl who use to work for them,she said dogs are ok,They all live in puppypens .She said they are in there 24/7.You are not allowed to hold them show them any kind of affection. She got a retired yokie from them and had a lot of issues.::animal-pa

She was not saying they did not take care of the animals.She said it was just that it was all buisness.And the dogs were treated like a buisness.So you were not aloud to hold them treat them like a family pet.
I've seen some of there dogs they are beautiful.But its just not ran like a private breeder.
This is why I don reply to alot of the forum.Someone always get ofensive.Someone asked a question and I said what I knew. She stayed till she found another job, you know single mom has to work

Maybe she stayed to try and make some difference in those dogs lives (pay attention to them, etc)
