Does Anyone Know if those Ear Thermometers Work the same on dogs? I'm just wondering if I can use one of those Ear Thermometers on my dog? IF we can use a baby rectal thermometer then I'm wondering if the Ear Thermometer works the same or will it give me an incorrect temp reading? I realize that dogs ears are not shaped like humans and so the ear thermometer may not get the accurate reading? Just wondering since I saw an Ear Thermometer at Walmart with a sticker price of $14 ! I rather use that instead of holding a rectal thermometer in her butt for a minute every day for a week lol. The less stressful for her ,the better... Genie

I really don't think so..although it would be great..I think dogs are less tolerant of having something in their ear then in the bum anyway..I don't think I ever tried to take my dogs temp. before..you can try it ..take a rectal reading, then see if you get the same reading from the ear..but be careful not to go too far in the ear canal.. If it doens't work at least you have a thermometer for yourself..good luck..

I'm going to buy it and try it. You really can't put the ear thermometer far in their ear .That thermometer is shaped much bigger. I will compare the rectal and ear temp and let you guys know if it gives me the same reading. The ear thermometer only takes 1-2 seconds so that wont drive my dog crazy. You just click the thermometer and the reading is immediate. The rectal one however,my dogs keep trying to turn around and see what the heck I'm doing to them lol

| I have one specially designed for dogs. KV Vet Supply / KV HealthLinks - Pet, equine & livestock supplies / Quality nutrition for you! It works ok, but the rectal temp is more accurate.

Oh that is neat..I thought the dogs ear canal would be too deep for a thermometer...I wish they had those when I worked at the Vets..

The canine ear thermometer sounds neat.I went ahead and bought the Walmart one and Im going to keep it for the family. It doesnt work for dogs as I had a gut feeling it wouldnt lol. The ear thermometer was giving a reading of 96 degrees for Lola lol! It was actually 99.3 (with rectal thermometer)
