Need some help.... OK I hope someone is up who can help me. My dog just started panting, shaking and is now pacing. She has been doing this for about an hour. She lay in her bed for about 10 minutes and just got up. Do you think she is about to go? |
time Yes... |

if it is time, then yes. if not it might be another issue. What day is she on? Do you have a confined place for her? if so put her in it. Put your hand on her abdomene. does she seem to be having contractions/ is she digging? |

Also, I don't know if this matters but in the last day or so I noticed that the whites of her eyes have been a little on the red side. |
Anyone out there?? Now she keeps pacing and every 5 minutes or so she looks up to the sky like she is stretching and then she lets out a little whimper. I think this might be it. |
Sounds like she is having contractions. |
Sounds like it, have a safe whelping!! :) Keep us updated!:animal36 |
How long should this last before I let the panic that has already invaded my body take over? This started around 8, so maybe 1 or so? |

If there is more than an hour of hard straining or contractions with no pup I would call the vet. |
Will I be able to tell when she is in hard labor? Crying? I will be able to see her pushing? Sorry for all the questions but this is my first time doing this and I am really nervous and scared. |

The stretching and whimpering is probably her pushing with contractions. |
I guess I just thought it would be more intense than this. I just want to be sure when to start the "countdown". I wouldn't want to wait too long and have something happen to her or the puppies. Especially since my mom and sister took both cars and it would take them about 20 minutes to get here. |
I see something!!! But its still "in" there. I called the vet and she said that it will come in a few. Its been 10 minutes and nothing, should io wprry?? |
What you really need to do is stay calm... she will feel your aprehension... I know it is easier to say than to do... believe me, I was there last weekend... if she is progressing then you are ok... is good you have the vet on call, so don't worry that much... Just watch for signs of exhaustion... |
Once what you are seeing is out, the babies will start coming and yes, put her in her box. the stretching she is doing is contractions. Calm down. Sit down beside her and when she has a contraction gently massage high up on her belly. This helps push any high babies down. When they come out, make sure you get the sac off the face right away. don't wait for her to do it . Sometimes mama's are too slow and the baby could smother. so take your fingernail and scrap the sack off the face and suction. you do know how to use the suction bulb I recommended , right? |
Hey everyone, I appreciate all the help BUT she was starting to stress and I called my vet and they told me to bring her in. She is there now and she just had one puppy! |
that is the best thing to do when in doubt. Did she have it by herself or is he doing a C-section. oh, and congratulations. |
Just checking in. Congrats on the one puppy. Anymore??? We want details.:D |
She had the one puppy naturally. The vet came out just as we were about to leave. I actually have to call soon to get an update. I will let you know once I speak to them. |

My vet even let me come back and watch a C section. That was really interesting. |
that's the best thing to do!! I am glad your baby girl will be ok!!! Post news soon!!!!!!!!!!!:D |
Yeah a part of me wanted to stay but I can be a nervous wreck sometimes and I think I would have been more of a hindrance than a help. The vet called me at about 2, 3 and she had all 3 puppies! :) I have pictures which I will put up in a few days, we were able to come in and see her real quick. We only stay for a few because as soon as she heard my sister's voice she got frantic and wanted to get out of the cage. Two of them were black and one was brown. Girl came first then the brown one and then the other black one. The doctor didn't tell me girl or boy. They are going to keep her overnight to observe her and make sure everything has passed. I should be able to pick her up tomorrow or at the latest Monday. Thanks again for all of you who posted in my moment of need. Believe it or not, you were able to keep me a little calm. |
I am happy everything is OK!! Post pics! |
Congratulations on three new little ones!!! I am so glad she was able to have them okay. Can't wait for the pictures. |
Hi again, more help needed. Its 11am, the next day, 24 hours she has been in their care. Since yesterday they have been telling me she is doing fine, they're feeding and everything is going well. Initially someone said they would keep her 24 hours but now they're saying tomorrow! It just seems weird to me that all of a sudden they need to stay. I could understand if there were some kind of complications but there weren't. If they are all doing well, why can't they come home? Do you think they're trying to charge me for another night? |

I asked them and they said I did the right thing. What I saw coming out was a sack, not a puppy so it was a good thing I took her in. My mom spoke to them again and it was more precautionary. So we brought her home and everything seems to be ok. Is it normal for her to pant a lot though? We're in the midst of a heatwave so it is quick warm. I had them in the living room with the AC in the room filtering in but the mom seemed to be way too warm. I just moved them into the AC and set it to 72 LOW. |

Yeah but its like 98 degrees, the vet said 75 would be ok so the AC is now set to 74. Luna is panting, I dont want her to overheat considering she drank a bowl of water since she has been in here and that is all. Is that wrong? How do I get her to drink more water? |
