Need some help.... OK I hope someone is up who can help me. My dog just started panting, shaking and is now pacing. She has been doing this for about an hour. She lay in her bed for about 10 minutes and just got up. Do you think she is about to go? |
time Yes... |

if it is time, then yes. if not it might be another issue. What day is she on? Do you have a confined place for her? if so put her in it. Put your hand on her abdomene. does she seem to be having contractions/ is she digging? |

Also, I don't know if this matters but in the last day or so I noticed that the whites of her eyes have been a little on the red side. |
Anyone out there?? Now she keeps pacing and every 5 minutes or so she looks up to the sky like she is stretching and then she lets out a little whimper. I think this might be it. |
Sounds like she is having contractions. |
Sounds like it, have a safe whelping!! :) Keep us updated!:animal36 |
How long should this last before I let the panic that has already invaded my body take over? This started around 8, so maybe 1 or so? |

If there is more than an hour of hard straining or contractions with no pup I would call the vet. |
Will I be able to tell when she is in hard labor? Crying? I will be able to see her pushing? Sorry for all the questions but this is my first time doing this and I am really nervous and scared. |

The stretching and whimpering is probably her pushing with contractions. |
I guess I just thought it would be more intense than this. I just want to be sure when to start the "countdown". I wouldn't want to wait too long and have something happen to her or the puppies. Especially since my mom and sister took both cars and it would take them about 20 minutes to get here. |
I see something!!! But its still "in" there. I called the vet and she said that it will come in a few. Its been 10 minutes and nothing, should io wprry?? |
What you really need to do is stay calm... she will feel your aprehension... I know it is easier to say than to do... believe me, I was there last weekend... if she is progressing then you are ok... is good you have the vet on call, so don't worry that much... Just watch for signs of exhaustion... |
Once what you are seeing is out, the babies will start coming and yes, put her in her box. the stretching she is doing is contractions. Calm down. Sit down beside her and when she has a contraction gently massage high up on her belly. This helps push any high babies down. When they come out, make sure you get the sac off the face right away. don't wait for her to do it . Sometimes mama's are too slow and the baby could smother. so take your fingernail and scrap the sack off the face and suction. you do know how to use the suction bulb I recommended , right? |
