The puppies We will have some females that are on the bigger side to use for breeding, but the pups will remain small because our male is very little. Does that make a difference. I don't do AKC, I do ACA, and there are alot of people in this area that want yorkies a bit over the standard small size. I'm just a hobby breeder and I don't feel there's anything wrong with what I'm doing. |
Uh Oh.......... |
The issue of the size of the dams is certainly to be considered. BUT, there is at least one post on almost every thread about deciding to breed or not, that points out how far back in the ancestry the parents go for the characteristics of their get. I do have to agree with those who have said to spay the larger girls..the genes that divide to give these babies their uniqueness do not divide down the middle so that each puppy gets equal numbers-the small will off-set the large is what some believe. Well, it AIN't so!! And, when we know from the gitgo that at best we are using oversized pet quality female breeding stock, we cannot hope to produce Yorkies of quality. This is not directed at the person who started this thread but it is something any responsible pet owner will take these into consideration. Money is certainly of interest in these breedings. If not, the puppies would have been kept to altering age and after surgeries are done, give the puppies to family and friends. The puppies that are already here will make wonderful family pets given their size. After researching the breed, educating oneself about the lines, genetics and all phases of breeding then an educated decision can be made as to whether or not to breed. JMHO. |
thank you for your comments........... So far, we've had 2 litters, and no problem selling any of them, with owners knowing what the mom and dad looked like, and that was both parents being 8-10 lbs. All our pups went to homes as pets, not for breeding. So, if I can provide others with a great yorkie for a pet, then that's what I'm meant to do. I guess I'm not into the breeding for the AKC part of it, or showing them. I just totally love yorkies, and I have such a love for the ones I have. I definately am not breeding just to be breeding and will be watching mine closely. I was here for both births from our 9 lb female, Muffy. She did great. I'm nervous about breeding my 6 lb yorkie though, because she seems so tiny. But we'll see. Again, thanks for the input. |

Thank you Txshopper.............. I was getting very frustrated with the responses to my post. All I wanted to know is when I could breed my stud, and I got alot of bad responses back. I don't know what brought me back to look, because I wasn't going to come back to YorkieTalk. I was very hurt. I've posted my pups here before and got alot of great responses. I even had 2 people from this website buy my pups. I don't understand where all the controversy came from. I feel so much safter breeding a bigger female with a smaller male. My babies are my babies, and I don't want to take the chance of putting any of them in danger, just because I want to breed smaller yorkies. I'm not AKC registered either, mine are ACA. I breed primarily for pets. Thank you again for your response. I was pretty hurt. I'm glad someone cared enough to post a positive remark for me. :-) |
I Just Dont Understand This is my 1st time back, I left yorkie talk for this reason right here. People judge and get mean on here rather than help. I BOUGHT ONE OF HEATHERS BABIES. AND I WOULD BUY ANOTHER ONE AGAIN FROM HER. What gives some of you the right to judge so harshly. She asked for advice. She has had 2 succesful litters already. I would rather buy a bigger size yorkie than a smaller size one. My Rascal was from Heathers last litter from Muffy. He is the best little guy ever, My vet said there is nothing wrong with him at all. He is perfectly healthy. My vet also said it is better to have an 8 pound yorkie than the smaller ones. Less health problems. Heather even worked with Rascal to help start potty training him. This is just awful how some people on here judge what they dont fully know. You dont know her dogs, you dont know anything but that she has had 2 litters with no problems, and just wanted to know when to breed her new baby boy. I thought this site was to help. |
thank you sbaird............. That brought tears to my eyes. That touched me so much. I'm to the point where I'm ready to leave YT also. I'm very disappointed in all this. I get slammed for breeding a larger female, and someone just posted about having a litter of 7 puppies with parents that are both on the larger side for yorkies also, and I read some of the posts, and everyone was so excited for her, and not slamming her. I'm very excited for her on her 7 puppies. Muffy has had 6 in both of her litters. btw, congrats on the 7 puppies. I'm not upset about your post what so ever, just upset with with the way some people responded to my post. |

aca Go to the ACA web site and they will tell you all their rules. ...and welcome. |
Please don't judge YT on the basis of this thread please. You will learn which members are harsher and which are less so and one of the harsher posters is new too so even the newbies have to learn how we inter-relate but admin does a great job encouraging us to be as welcoming and warm as possible to newbies and not jump down their throats at every opportunity and criticize their breeding practices or scream at them for using the word "teacup"....OMG!!! LOL. Some members do a better job than others but there are over 4000 so you will find wonderful friends and learn who to avoid, if yiu know what I mean. We have an ignore feature to so if there is a particular member who offends you can place him or her on ignore. Welcome and happy posting! |
I dont see how A 10LB YORKIE IS ANY LESS A YORKIE THAN A 5LB ONE. |
A 10 pound Yorkie is twice the Yorkie as a 5 pound one!!! LOL |
