will that hurt?they brought a little bottle with formula, i read it should be kept in the ref., but isn't that too cold to give the puppy?they did not bring extra bottles, and like a baby I like to wash the nipple and bottle after every feeding:confused:

Yes you cannot give the baby milk from the fridge you need to warm it first. Don't warm the milk in the mircowave warm it in the bottle with hot water running over it. You can also stand the bottle with milk in it in hot water till its warm. Test the milk on your wrist to make sure it isn't too hot first. Squeezing mom's teats alittle will not hurt her and some milk should come out to see if the pup will nurse then.

You're doing a great job helping your friend. Don't give up on getting her to latch on. I would in a way flatten the teat. Get a good hold of it from an inch or so behind the nipple. Pry the mouth open and shove it all the way in there. They need it far back so they can start move it into proper position, hitting the roof of the mouth when they suck.

Debbie, Susan,Anne and the rest are all giving you great info.
All I will add is its very important for a puppy to latch on to get colostrum, even if her milk is not in yet. So keep trying :D

Max is very territorial, but this time, he only wants to lay beside the box where Cloe and the baby are.I took some pic's but my camera is acting up, so will have to wait until this afternoon for my son's camera

his next feeding will be in a 30 min. after that I'll go to petco and get my own supplies.thanks debbie for your good advise.

well ladies...we did it!!! either the honey, the saliva, the puppy formula..I don't know,I'm sure the good thoughts worked their magic, but he finally latched on, when he sucks, I could hear him strong, but after a while he got tired, since I was not able to tell how much he had drank I tried with the formula and he wouldn't take it, his stomach looks round, so I guess he is satisfied .

Yeah you did it!! I knew you could get him latched on with a few tricks,lol. Well it doesn't matter which one worked but he's nursing and thats all that matters. Congrats!!

just finished with the next feeding, I did not want to wait the 2 hrs.Some honey did the trick, I just had to guide him and he started sucking, maybe 5 -6 min.Is that enough?He did not want the bottle after mom's milk.The are going to see the vet this afternoon.

That's plenty, he'll go to sleep and wake back up and eat if he's with mom

Good job, you are a great person to help out like you did and are doing. glad to hear he has finally latched on. being warm and eating things she be ok, again keep weighing him.. keep us all updated. anne

Cloe's owner just came to pick them up for their vet's appointment, once they get back I'll let you know.Did not get the scale, but we'll soon find out his weight.

That is so great that he is nursing now. Great pictures, pretty mom and a spunky little Max. You are doing a great job. Give yourself a little pat on the back from all of us at YT.

Cloe's owner called, the vet said they were both in good condition, he did not ask for the puppy's weight, and the vet docked his tail (the puppy's, not the owner's), isn't that too soon?he's not even 24 hrs. yet.I'll be babysitting tomorrow as well:yay_jump:

Thanks.. I am surprised the vet did not want the puppies weight, and surprised your friend did not ask for baby to be weighed. Glad to hear all is doing well.. and surprised the vet docked his tail so soon..I guess all vets like us are very different. I always want to know what mine weigh and then I weigh them all the time...anne

Your doing a fantastic job. Wow docked tails already? I think if it would have been me I would have waited until he was nursing better all by himself. Give him a little time to gain some weight. Well all we can do is pray for the little guy. I agree, you are a wonderful person for helping this way.
