Parti yorkie breeding genetics? I have just purchased a female party yorkie. Her father is a full parti yorkie and mother is just a standard not parti carrier. Do you think it would be possible to breed my standard yorkie to my female parti yorkie and have a parti yorkie puppy become of it? Also not sure if anyone knows my male yorkie is CKC and parti is AKC is there away i can register there puppies? |
I can't help you with whether or not you would get a parti.. BUT the odds are good... as far as registeriung.. you could not register them AKC unless BOTH mom and dad are AKC |
I have heard you can only register parti yorkies as akc? Have you heard anything about that? |
Both parents have to be AKC registered to register a litter AKC. |
If your girl is a parti carrier, then if bred to a standard yorkie (non carrier) she will produce all standard-color puppies. The majority will be standard yorkies that do not carry the parti gene, but a small amount could be parti carriers but will look like standard yorkies. |

In order to get the parti coloring, both mother and father have to each pass on 1 parti gene to the pup. It would be very unlikely for a parti who is bred to a standard, to produce a parti pup unless the standard parent was actually a parti carrier. You may be able to double register you AKC yorkie with CKC and register her pups with CKC when breeding to your CKC stud. |
thats kinda what i thought that the mother and father both have to have the gene somehow in them. The puppy i bought is indead a (full) Parti (not jsut the carrier of the gene). The mother of the puppy must of had it in here genes somewhere. The previous owner said the female was just a standard but like i said she had to be a carrier. So if i breed a parti carrier to my parti i think i read that i will have some full parti and some parti carriers is that correct. If so i might want to invest and work on getting another parti yorkie. I want to thank ya'll for helping me figure this one out lol. Erin |

Just would like to add a break down on odds of getting parti colored puppies. Both parents must at LEAST be carriers to get a parti pup. If you breed a parti to a carrier 1/2 the pups will be partis and the other 1/2 will be carrires. If you breed a parti to a standard yorkie ALL the puppies will be carriers but none will be actual partis. If you breed a carrier to a standard yorkie 1/2 the pups will be carriers and the other 1/2 will be non carriers (standard), although theres no way of knowing who is a carrier other than further breeding to find out (but carrier pups do tend to have a lot more white on them at birth). And of course if you breed a parti to a parti all the pups will be partis. I hope I explained this to where its not more confusing. |
yes that was explained very well now the second hardest part is to find a parti male that is not 4,000.00 if you know what i mean lol. |
apri versus akc K maybe you can answer this. There is a parti yorkie that is apri registered and mine is akc would you hold off and get another akc. Supposibly i could register the pups when they are to have them under apri but not sure if i really want to go apri. Is apri legitimate and/ or worth having would that be more down grading? |

Question Does anyone know the odds of a litter? Dam- Blonde (carries chocolate) Sire-Parti (carries chocolate Parti) Still confused on the outcome. Does this mean they could have chocolates, blondes, or blonde partis? |
Quote:
Dam does not carry parti so there will be no parti offspring (recessive gene). Sire does not carry blonde (ee) so there will be no blonde (ee) offspring (recessive gene). You can get chocolates and traditionals, some of the pups who are traditional colored will carry for chocolate. All the pups will carry for both parti and blonde. |

Didn't ask for your input or opinion about my name or my breeding choices. Thanks though! 😂 |

And not breeding dog with color faults? Partis are gorgeous and agencies recognize them as purebred and not "faulty" so why can't you? If you don't own one, you can't really judge those that do. I personally do not want a traditional. I enjoy the variety and beauty my partis have. They are just as good as your dogs and for you to think they aren't, maybe you don't have a love for all Yorkies like you should. How dare you comment useless information like you are someone and judge me on my choice in dogs. And I could care less if you don't like my name. Go police the others who use the word teacup...but I'm sure if you Did they could care less too. I don't breed for size, but all my babies chart to be 3 pounds. If that isn't a teacup, what is. In my eyes if an adult weighs 2 pounds or 3 pounds like mine...they are teacups. Now that that's settled, enjoy your traditional colors, and know that all Yorkies are BEAUTIFUL no matter their color. And if they are different colors they are no less that yours. I'm a brunette, and I couldn't imagine saying blondes were not worthy to produce offspring because they aren't brunette..but that's what you just said about my babies and everyone else who enjoys the color variations. Hmm #allyorkiesmatter anyone? |

I don't have a website thanks. |
Anyone that knows the yorkie breed knows there is one kind of yorkie, and that is a "standard" yorkie whose weight should be no more the 7 pounds, a toy breed, not like poodles where you have teacup, toy, mini and standard. If your pups are 3 pounds they are yorkies, not "teacup". And please loose the attitude, this is not FB or craigslist. This is a respectful community forum were respect is given, and opinions are given Whether you asked for them or not. "If" you are a breeder you should know the correct term is yorkie, not "teacup" even if that is what "your eyes see" . By using the term teacup you are suggesting you breed for smaller then standard yorkies which ethical breeders do not breed for. That is my opinion which I am entitled to. |

Most reputable breeders price their pups by how closely they meet the AKC/YTCA standard for the breed. They generally advertise their pups by weight as there is no other standard than “under 7 pounds”. Color, stature, weight are all determined by the “standard for the breed”. Pups that are “off standard” are price accordingly. The general rule (by reputable breeders) is that any female under 5 pounds is a great risk to breed and therefore is a risk to the life of the bitch and puppies, and is not considered an ethical action. Breeders that have pups that vary greatly from the standard will not give breeding rights as the ultimate goal is to improve the breed with every litter, not to make money, and not to perpetuate an unsatisfactory trait be it off color, size or health risk. In this day and age most reputable breeders will give a buyer a copy of the DNA and lab tests as well as a health agreement at the time of the sale. Again, the goal is to improve the breed in every way! The pups you see in the shows are examples of those standards. We are constantly trying to educate the public so that the breed is healthy and good examples of the breed. You will see very good breeders looking toward darker colors that fall within the standard because that is what they like the most — I have heard judges do on and on about varying colors as well. I got my Yorkie who always being shown, and doing quite well, because the experience breeder could tell she was going to be too small to breed, although her coat and top line etc were wonderful. |
