I disagree. When I got Bella I felt a little guilty about how much I paid for her so we thought we would breed her just once to offset some of the costs and keep one for ourselves. I was naive, we figured dogs/animals breed all of the time in the wild so what's the big deal right? Well, after reading lots of posts on this site and learning so much I've since changed my mind. I didn't realize the possible dangers of breeding a small dog. I would die if something happened to Bella! She's more important to me than offsetting her costs. Also, I've come to realize how important it is to maintain a certain standard in breeding. I've learned all of this by reading others posts which I really appreciate. But I have to say, had I come to this site and asked for advise and was attacked as I've seen others attacked I would have left the site and not returned and probably would still be planning on breeding her. I've learned a lot over time. When I read the ones that are attacking I basically gloss over them, I don't "listen" because I'm too busy focusing on the tone of the reply. It's ok to disagree with someone and caution them on things they may want to do, just do it nicely. Most people don't have bad intentions, I didn't. We just need to be educated but we don't learn from people who talk down to us, judge us or attack us - we tune them out. |

Index of /images When I bred Sunshine with a show breeder's dog, she had several in her home loose, but also had crates such as these in an indoor garage converted to a kennel... very clean.. heated/air conditioned/ with a play area... and the door opened to the family room. and of course the females in heat and ready to whelp were in thier own seperate crates and the breeding males were in thier own seperate crates.. not mistreated.. NOT caged up 24/7... I would have to look at all the photos before saying this is not a good breeder |
The mother of my girl was 4 pounds and she had 4 healthy puppies. I would talk to your vet. I wish you luck! |
from looking at more pics, it looks like puppies that are weaned are in the crates.. we bring home a new puppy and WE crate train.. so what is the difference. They appear to be well cared for.. in CLEAN crates.. they would NOT be clean if they were in them 24/7.. |
I can't believe YT'rs called this new member's home to say that she was going to kill her baby if she bred her. What some (perhaps well intended) people miss is that by attacking someone like this they only succeed in making the attacker look like a nutcase. How rude and invasive! Since my short time in this forum I have seen this happen way too many times. No matter how much we may disagree with someone, a controlled and pollite reply goes much further than a rude one. Kindly educating this person would have done more positive things than attacking her. Shame on whoever did this! |

Right. I would find it very strange if a breeder did NOT have some method of training and restraining their dogs. I see no reason to condemn a breeder for doing the same thing owners do. It's not wrong to crate or pen a dog. (Like you, I feel differently about doing so 24 hours a day) Nor do I feel it is wrong to have a room of the house for a breeder's dogs. I don't even think it's wrong to have a separate outside building (properly heated/cooled, with play area, nice, etc.). Again, as long as they are allowed plenty of time to play loose and with plenty of socialization. |
