i have read where both AKC and CKC both call them tiny toy breed...if under 5 pounds you cant show them though....standard is 5-7....but both say " no such thing as ""teacup""....just a term some breeders use to describe there yorkies that are expected to stay under 4 lb.s |

I disagree. When I got Bella I felt a little guilty about how much I paid for her so we thought we would breed her just once to offset some of the costs and keep one for ourselves. I was naive, we figured dogs/animals breed all of the time in the wild so what's the big deal right? Well, after reading lots of posts on this site and learning so much I've since changed my mind. I didn't realize the possible dangers of breeding a small dog. I would die if something happened to Bella! She's more important to me than offsetting her costs. Also, I've come to realize how important it is to maintain a certain standard in breeding. I've learned all of this by reading others posts which I really appreciate. But I have to say, had I come to this site and asked for advise and was attacked as I've seen others attacked I would have left the site and not returned and probably would still be planning on breeding her. I've learned a lot over time. When I read the ones that are attacking I basically gloss over them, I don't "listen" because I'm too busy focusing on the tone of the reply. It's ok to disagree with someone and caution them on things they may want to do, just do it nicely. Most people don't have bad intentions, I didn't. We just need to be educated but we don't learn from people who talk down to us, judge us or attack us - we tune them out. |

Index of /images When I bred Sunshine with a show breeder's dog, she had several in her home loose, but also had crates such as these in an indoor garage converted to a kennel... very clean.. heated/air conditioned/ with a play area... and the door opened to the family room. and of course the females in heat and ready to whelp were in thier own seperate crates and the breeding males were in thier own seperate crates.. not mistreated.. NOT caged up 24/7... I would have to look at all the photos before saying this is not a good breeder |
The mother of my girl was 4 pounds and she had 4 healthy puppies. I would talk to your vet. I wish you luck! |
from looking at more pics, it looks like puppies that are weaned are in the crates.. we bring home a new puppy and WE crate train.. so what is the difference. They appear to be well cared for.. in CLEAN crates.. they would NOT be clean if they were in them 24/7.. |
I can't believe YT'rs called this new member's home to say that she was going to kill her baby if she bred her. What some (perhaps well intended) people miss is that by attacking someone like this they only succeed in making the attacker look like a nutcase. How rude and invasive! Since my short time in this forum I have seen this happen way too many times. No matter how much we may disagree with someone, a controlled and pollite reply goes much further than a rude one. Kindly educating this person would have done more positive things than attacking her. Shame on whoever did this! |

Right. I would find it very strange if a breeder did NOT have some method of training and restraining their dogs. I see no reason to condemn a breeder for doing the same thing owners do. It's not wrong to crate or pen a dog. (Like you, I feel differently about doing so 24 hours a day) Nor do I feel it is wrong to have a room of the house for a breeder's dogs. I don't even think it's wrong to have a separate outside building (properly heated/cooled, with play area, nice, etc.). Again, as long as they are allowed plenty of time to play loose and with plenty of socialization. |
The OP has not reposted at all in some time. I think closing this thread would be advised. |

When will people realize that reputable breeders don't have so many Yorkies that they have to crate like that? There are WAY better ways! As I said before, that picture looks like a pet store. I am not "crucifying" the breeder, but I wouldn't buy a pet from them. I am knowledgeable enough now on the practices to know better. If you buy from a less than desirable place, you will get a less than desirable representation of the breed. Simple as that. |

I certainly do respect your opinion, and there's nothing at all wrong with it. Not everyone has the same opinion--even knowledgeable people will have differing opinions. |

Now, I am not here defending hundreds of dogs in cages 24 hours a day. That is another matter entirely. I just think that it is unfair to automatically assume the worst of a breeder just because they choose to use different methods of separation, etc. than we personally would choose. The mere fact that a breeder uses crates or pens does not mean they have a huge number of dogs, nor does it mean the dogs are in there all the time. It could be either way, and I would prefer to know the whole story before deciding. |

Let's remember that we weren't born knowing everything about everything!! I myself learned the hard way by losing my Nikki about different type of breeders. I have learned so much since and found a great breeder. There are people who want a small yorkie not knowing that too small a yorkie might have health problems and can't be bred and fall for the "teacup", "micromini yorkie" terms. Let's educate one another, not attack each other. |
Thanks for the Medication Information Thank you for the medication information! Quote: ("Your Vet should only use Isoflorane - Sevoflorane for anesthesia on toy breeds") Even though I have been with my Vet Office for 20+ years and trust them with my life. I'm still going to ask them what they use during surgery. This is my first Yorkie, but not my first dog and each dog should be cared for according to their breed and size. I want the very best for my new girl, Ms. LeiLani and I've worked to long and hard researching Yorkies and my breeder (1-1/2 years) to loose her to a stupid mistake. I want to make sure that anyone that "I allow" to touch my child, will care for her as if she were their own. I'm the only one that can speak for her and I will. Thank you again my friend! |
