Signs of labor?????? It has been 8 weeks today since I breed my dog. I think she is in the early stages of labor. I thought I would post this to see if anyone can help me tell for sure this is the first time for both of us. Her signs are pacing back and forth starting to pant a lot not all the time but every few minutes, she wants to go outside every few minutes to go pee. She just can't get comfortable and of course she is digging on a quilt that I have on the couch trying to find a comfortable spot. I'm assuming that all of this is the signs of the first stages of labor. Am I wrong? |
have you checked her temp? When she's panting, do you feel of her stomach area? If it is hard, she is having contractions. Have you taken her in to the vets to have an x-ray done? This should be able to determine if she can whelp okay. |
I believe that once the rectal temp drops to 98.4 and stays there for a couple of hours, labor should begin within 24 hours. |
I've done everything except take her temp. I'm planning on doing that soon. I'm in the kitchen throwing something together for supper and shes not in here with me, she normally is. I don't know why I didn't think about taking her temp. Her stomach has been hard. Thanks for the input. |
you need to watch her and have her close by at all times. You don't know if she'll go off somewhere to have them. What if she starts to have complications and you can't find her. Please go look for her. :( |
I just went and checked on her she is fine. Thanks. |
Just keep a really really good eye on her. There are lots of signs BUT it is diff. for every female. I checked my females temp. three times daily and she really lied to me a few good times! LOL I found the biggest sign for MY dog is the nesting. As soon as she went in her bed and not laying next to me and started going crazy over getting her blankets/paper just so is when I knew it was time! Good LUCK!! Post photos if you can :D We ALL love puppies :D |
I'm so excited Mollie has had 2 puppies so far the vet said at least 3 maybe 4. She has a boy and than a girl. As soon as they are all born I will get photos posted. Thanks for all the help. :aimeeyork |
So she had her puppies on what day 56 days? Mine usually have theirs at 60-62 days |
Congratulations for the new puppies. How many puppies did she your female had? How are the mom and puppies doing? I hope everyone is doing fine. I will love to see pics. |
I really wasn't expecting her to have them for at least another 4or 5 days. My mom's had hers last year on day 58. I guess they just ran out of room. She has had 2 so far. She should have at leat 1 more. Mom and babies are doing fine. I will get some pictures hopefully posted by tomorrow. |
Congratulations for the new puppies . |
Congrats on the new puppies! Looking forward to the pictures... |
I posted pictures this morning before I went to bed. Of course after I posted them she had puppy #3 at 2:30 over 3 hours after puppy #2 so, their are 2 boys and 1 girl. I posted pictures a few pictures in the photo gallery. |
CONGRATS!!! I hope you get some sleep soon... ;) |
update Please update us on your puppies. Wow, it took a while for that 3rd one. I think I would have panicked when it took that long. I hope to have puppies when mine are ready. I'm reading and trying to find out all I can before then. Did you help her with the sacks or did she know what to do by instinct? (Since it was her first time). |
congrats on your new pups how are they doing this morning?? |

I had to help her with the sacks on the first two I tore them away from their faces. The third one she did all on her own. She may have been alright with the first 2 but I didn't want to take any chances. I took them to the vet today and had their tails docked and dew claws removed. They came through it just fine. Yeah it did take a while for the third one I was beginning to think that the vet was wrong and that she only had 2. That was why I decided to stay up with her a few more hours just to make sure. |

She isnt nesting, and i think i missed the mucus plug when she went outside. My dog thermometer just broke yesterday, so i dont know her temp and im an hour away from a pet store!!!!! HELP!!!!! |

Mucus plugs aren't always a sign of an impeding whelp. YOUR GIRL NEEDS TO BE TAKEN TO THE VET NOW |
