Anyone heard of "Tina's Tiny Terriers"?
 

My daughter and I were at PetSmart today, and we took the boys with us. We were walking up an aisle, and a lady approached me and said "so, you like yorkies?" I said "oh yes, very much. She said "well, I breed them, don't like them much, but the demand for them is high. I wouldn't have one as a pet, but that's just me."

I asked her how she breeds them if she doesn't have them as her pets. She said they are not in her house, but she has very clean kennels. She handed me a business card and said if I'd like to buy another puppy to give her a call. She said she has 38 dogs in her breeding program. I almost handed it back to her and told her that I would never buy a dog from someone who felt that way. Instead, I kept her card thinking maybe I can find out if this is a puppy mill or if these dogs are taken care of.

Her card says: "Tina's Tiny Terriers" South Akron, Ohio. "We breed only the tiniest of teacups" Clean Kennels, heat, a/c, over 30 breeding dogs. Healthy, vet checked, shots, all ages, all teacups. have puppies all the time. Please call for appt.

Anyone ever heard of them?

I haven't heard of them but that doesn't mean anything nor am I a breeder, but after reading a lot of others comments about this, I would not consider a pup from them. The name alone sends up red flags. Personally I would hope that a breeder that I got a pup from (regardless of breed) would have one as there own. JMO.

I've never heard of them, but I can't imagine telling someone you are a breeder, but you don't really like the breed of dog you have!
That sounds like alot of dogs to have and the way she's advertising them as teacups! She's pretty much admitted that it's only about the money for her!

I did a search on Google for "Tina's Tiny Terriers" and came up with the site yorkshireterrierpuppiesforsale.net They are advertising "only the best Teacup Purebred Yorkie puppies". Oh My!!!! ????

Doesn't like them much....that statement is so sad and speaks volumes without knowing anything else about her. :(

I know! I was shocked! It's obvious that she is only in it for the money. I have never come across a breeder who is breeding yorkies and doesn't like the breed. :eek:

OMG...well, she better be glad she didn't run into me :mad: Actually, I might have been speechless because you just don't expect to run into someone like that! I totally believe you but that's all just almost unbelievable..a breeder just outright saying they don't like the breed but breeds for money, admitting they have a lot of dogs, and advertising teacups and puppies all the time. Wow..everything on her business card would make most of us run in the other direction :thumbdown

Even the simple fact that she HAS a business card that she randomly hands to people in a pet store is horrible...:thumbdown

I totally agree with you! I read a lot in the breeder's forum, and I see the passion they all have for their babies and for the breed. Reputable breeders have that desire to improve on the breed and strive to breed only the best. This lady just outright does not care!!!

I just wondered if anyone here had heard of this breeder. I am really thinking about calling for an appt. just to see what kind of place it is. It just sounds like a puppy mill to me.:( I'd like to be able to report it if it is.

What a great way to spread your business! :rolleyes: And the fact that the lady seemed to act as if it's perfectly acceptable to breed dogs as a business...I hope she gets all the dogs taken away from her.

Oooo, I and others I am sure, would love if you would do that. It really doesn't sound good to me. But even if she was on the up and up and her kennels were clean, warm, etc., I still would never buy from a breeder who didn't love her dogs. So sad....:(

It doesn't sound good to me either. How could anyone buy from a breeder who didn't even like the breed they are selling? That's like going to a Ford dealer and being told that Fords are no good, get a Chevy. Same basic principal!

I am going to call for an appt. and see what happens. I'm hoping to get a look at her kennels and her dogs. Clean or not, I'll be able to tell if they are well taken care of or not. It's bothering me that she doesn't like the breed. It makes me wonder if they are taken care of or if they get the attention they deserve.

Oh that just makes my heart sick:unlove: You KNOW that her dogs aren't getting any love or attention, they're just puppy machines to her:mad:

This attitude is very common among breeders who breed as a business, not because they love the breed...they have to breed what is popular so they can sell at a good price...that is why I hate to see Yorkies so popluar as a breed..I wish people disliked them, then none would be in the hands of this type breeder.

I feel the same way...I cringed when I saw they were #2 on the most popular breed list...:(

I called today for an appt. to come and see her puppies. First, she asked me where I live. I told her, and she said "well, now is a bad time because my husband is out of town until Saturday, and I don't like having people here when he's not home." I told her that's completely understandable, and that I would be glad to make the appt. at HER convenience. She said "well, after that I will be leaving on Sunday for a couple days. I wouldn't have any objection to bringing a couple puppies and meeting you halfway in a public place." I told her I would really rather come there and see all the puppies and their parents, and I said maybe another week would be better. She said "well, you could have a puppy today if we could meet somewhere. And besides, I only have two available right now."

I could see what she was doing. She was finding excuses for me not to come there.:mad: I realized I wasn't going to get anywhere. I told her I would get back to her.

Later, when my husband came home from work, I asked him to call her to see what she would say. He called and told her he would like to buy his wife a yorkie puppy for Mother's Day (I wish!), and would it be possible to make an appt. for sometime between now and then to come and see her pups. She asked him where he lived, and he told her. She said "well, I am going to be up your way on Saturday, how about if I meet you somewhere with a few of my pups?" He told her he preferred to come and see her kennels and take a look at the parents. She said "oh, I can bring you pictures of the parents, and I only have four pups available right now."

She went from two to four in just a few hours? This lady is bad news, so I just want people to be aware of her. She doesn't have an address on her business card, it just says "Akron, OH". I was hoping to get to see where she keeps these dogs.:(

Wow, that's horrible that she's changing her story...poor puppies...:( I feel horrible for them.

Why don't we ALL call her asking to come and see her pups? Hummmmm I wonder if she would meet ME half way to show me pups -- I live in GA?

Thanks for the update! Hopefully more people catch on, and learn how important it is to see a breeders home! Is Akron, OH a big city? Or can you find her address from her telephone number or name on google? Then maybe you can googleearth it, and see what her property atleast looks like.

omg michele.. good thing she did not run into me.. I could have made her think about who she would hand out a card to the next time..

that is just horrible.. she breeds due to demand.. but does not like them:eek::eek: holy crap... maybe some on here should check her out that are in this area... and make sure she is not a puppy mill.. crap i hate to hear this.. those poor 38 yorkies.. this will Pi** me off all night now..sorry for the rant...

No, Akron isn't that big, but it would be impossible for me to find it. Nothing comes up for her number on google, and she doesn't have a website that I have found. No website was on her business card.

That's what I was trying to do....to get her address by calling and making an appt. My update is above. My daughter's boyfriend is from Akron, so I am going to ask him if he knows anything about her kennels.

can you not phone the humane society and tell them she sounds like a puppy mill to you.. and how she gave you and your hubby the runaround. try to check her out.. crap I want her dealt with so bad.. again sorry.. it just upsets me that these people find people to not get it,. and let her meet up with them...to bad you had not followed her that day..ya I know.. hate that when it is too late..anne

Have you googled her name or looked on the USDA breeder list? An address might come up that way

I could call them, but will they check it out just on a suspicious without me ever actually seeing her kennels? I would be happy to try calling them and see what they say. I am like you, I want her dealt with too! That's why I wanted to check her out. I REALLY can't stand animals not being taken care of or used as breeding machines!!!
