Cute Poem About Showing Dogs
 

This was shared on another list I am on.


There was a time, there really was,

When I was sweet and tender,

When SHOW DOG meant a Disney Star,

And Bitch was not a gender.

I went to bed at half past ten,

I went to church on Sunday.

On Saturday I baked the beans,

And did the wash on Monday.

But then I got a certain pup,

And an erstwhile friend said, "SHOW"

And so I did, and so I do,

OH! What I didn't know.

I used to dress with flair and style,

That was the life, don't knock it.

But now each dress from bed to ball

Must have a good bait pocket.

I used to have a certain air,

I wallowed in perfume,

I used to smell of Nuit D'Amour,

Now I smell like Mr. Groom.

My furniture was haut decor,

My pets a tank of guppies,

Now I've furniture unstuffed,

And well-adjusted puppies.

Once I spoke in pristine prose,

In dulcet tones and frail,

But now I'm using language,

That would turn a sailor pale

I was taught to be well-groomed

No matter where I went.

Now all the grooming that I do

Is in the handler's tent.

I used to long for clothes and jewels,

And a figure classed as super,

Now the thing I yearn for most

Is a nice new Pooper-Scooper.

I adored a man who murmured verse

Through intimate little dinners,

But now the words I thrill to hear

Are just three-"Best of Winners"

I rise at dawn and pack the car

The road ahead is a long one.

The one I routed on the maps

Invariably the wrong one.

I really love this doggy life

I wouldn't care to change it.

But when I get that BEST IN SHOW

I plan to rearrange it.

And when my time on earth is done,

I'll go without much nudging.

Just give me three weeks closing date,

And let me know who's judging.

Cute and oh so true!! I never thought I'd have covers on my couches, rolled up rugs and wear flats with a nice skirted suit. I must admit that this past weekend my dog went into the ring better groomed than I did. I only dream of sleeping til 6:00 now and I actually cheer when a pup goes on a puppy pad instead of in my floor. It's definitely a different way of life but I am having a ball!

That was cute, I enjoyed reading it.

I had groomed Thriller my maltese show boy yesterday and Andy said he looks really good, and I said Yeah but look at me :p

Don't I know!! Saturday I groomed Connor and Deuce and got everyone breakfast. I never did get my shower!! We had adjoining rooms and one tub was for people, one tub with bathing machine was for the pups. With 5 dogs in the room it's a wonder we got anything accomplished but we did have a ball!! I think Laurie will be bringing her maltese to WV so you'll probably be meeting up with her. I must say I am so envious, I would love to get a first hand look at your dogs.

I do hope you have a wonderful time!! Don't forget shopping money.

Okay...so I understand why the handlers and exhibitors wear flats, but why can't they find cute ones? :p

haha...I'm not a shoe person myself, but someone else mentioned it to me so I started noticing. I see plenty of cute flats in stores..LOL I guess it's all about comfort :D

It is about comfort and also non slip soles. Most of those cute flats have slippery bottoms. Some of the surfaces exhibitors have to walk and run on are pretty slick, especially if you step off the mat.

It hasn't closed yet. Carol Ann is coming from Michigan with her boy, Jan is coming with her bred by and Sabrina is coming with her Maltese. I have Deuce, Guy and Cindy entered. Come with us. I am sure we will have a blast.

I noticed that Tanya spent more time than you and I on her hair and make up. You can tell she is new to this. Let's take a look at her in a year.

I was shocked when I looked at the picture from dinner. I looked like I just crawled out of bed. I remember taking a shower and putting on make up. Did I comb my hair?

You kept going back to brushing Cindy so I don't think you blew your hair dry, not sure about combing it. That was the first time that I've ever seen you with ringlets though. Tanya definitely looked better than we did but she'll get there! What weekend is WV anyway? That's such a long drive all by my lonesome, wonder if Tanya would want to venture out. I'd like to see her get more points on Jack before she puts him out with David.

I usually just tend to keep to myself but this gang sounds like to much fun to miss out on

Well Laurie has planned to be at the WV show and looks like Robbie will be there. I have a litter due on the 26th so I have to bow out. Someday you'll have to head southeast and come play with us. We would so love to have you, there are some great exhibitors around here. They are very supportive of each other and alot of fun!

Lady, you won't keep to yourself anymore! We will pull you in.

Do you know that these lovely ladies didn't pack up and go home after the show but took me out to dinner to celebrate. They even had a cake with Deuce's name on it. I know Tami well and had met Tanya once but the rest were total strangers. I cried more Sat than the day I got married! (I picked up a show pup the morning I got married. There is a little black and white PRT pup in my wedding pictures.)

Deana, plan to come to Hampton, VA in May. There should be majors in Yorkies (with very few handlers) and I am trying my best to put together a major in Maltese as well. They have Best Puppy and Best Bred By competitions. I would love to cheer on one of your puppies in the Puppy Toy Group. Jackie, how long is the drive from Ohio? We can share rooms to save a little money or Tami could put us all up at her house.

Oh man....that is so tempting, we would have a blast! We already have 3 weekends of shows planned in May...the first weekend I will be studying for finals...then I can show...show...show all summer well that is until I am broke! LOL...

Any more thoughts on coming up to Ohio for the specialty? My pups will finally be old enough to put in the ring...YAY!

Can you imagine what Deuce's New Champion picture is going to look like? I looked at the picture from dinner and I looked horrible. Thank goodness, I have Photoshop. I will be using the makeover feature on this one.

I don't have anything to show. My special has a beautiful coat but he needs to grow facial furnishings before he is really competitive.

Is there an all breed show that weekend as well. If so, I could come and show my Maltese. I would love to show Tami's boy Conner. I will check the dates and see if I can find someone to go with me.

I have a sleep disorder and will fall asleep anytime and anywhere. I have to stop going to shows myself. It should have taken me 4 hours to get home Sun and it took me 8. I spent an hour at a Civil War battlefield but the rest of the time was stopping to wake up.

Are you suppose to be studying? I am going to stop typing and go to bed.

When is the specialty? If all else fails and I can't go but you do I can always meet you around Richmond and let you take Connor. I would be so honored to have you show him.
