Happy Spring Hello Please get her welping box ready. I hope it has been ready but if not. Get her use to it put her in it for an hour or two at a time many times a day. Put it where you are going to have it and leave it there do not move it around. A quite warm place without traffic. A wood box or a medium size plastic kennel with a clean carpet in the bottom works well some people use new paper. Do not use towels the babies can get lost in the towel and die. Has she been use to a kennel as her room or safe place? I hope so. What so many people do is breed there pets that are use to sleeping with them and the dog wants to have the puppies on the bed not good. I also feed puppy food before and when she has her puppies. You can mix a tablespoon of can puppy food with her dry food and hot water once a day it will help her to have lots of milk sooner which will help the new puppies have lots to eat. i hope this help you. have a Wonderful Spring |
Thank all of you for your kind words and help. It really means a lot to me. She has been in her whelping box for two days now. I even slept on the couch with her last night...my husband does not allow any dogs in our bed. Her whelping box is in our extra bathroom. This is where she will be staying when the puppies arrive. I have towels in the box for now until the babies come. I've gotten all of her whelping supplies collected in the bathroom, all set up and ready! |

I always love to see pics of little moms-to-be. My girls always get very needy for attention at this time. They feel so vulnerable and need to be re-assured that everything is fine. They know what's coming; their need to trust you is huge. After the whelping is done they're so proud of themselves and they develop a unique bond with you for helping them get through it all. It's a very special time. I don't think anyone here sees your girls as just 'some dogs'. We have all been through this before and truly wish the best for your girls and the 'widdle-widdles' they're carrying. I do hope the breeder you know will be there for you, no matter what time of day your girl decides 'it's time'. Wow, and I was concerned about just 2 litters -- you get the prize for 18 yorkies! I'm glad you have some help. Hope they all grow up helathy and happy and that you get to relax some too. |

The thing that worries/scares me is the amount of breeding that we see everyday on Yorkie Talk. There is a lot of breeding going on. We breed to have something to show and in no way breed the numbers that I see being bred with not much time or experience in the breed or any knowledge of breeding.
