Well, I guess it was a false alarm, as everything is now back to normal and I am still waiting, more or less patiently. Thanks bjh for suggesting that it might be low blood sugar. I gave Ciara karo syrup, followed by NutriCal when I finally remembered where I had decided to keep it. She quit shivering and her temp came up and she has been fine since. After reading more of the posts, I ordered some CalSorb, so that I would have it when she does decide to whelp. It should be here today or tomorrow. I also ordered NutriDrops and Nursemate. I have no idea how much CalSorb to give her. Online it says 1-3 cc, but does it depend on the size of the dog? Should I give it to her when she starts the final stages of labor or wait to see if she has a problem? |
I am glad to hear Ciara is doing better. It sounds like you really getting a handle on things. I have never used Cal-sorb during whelping but I plan to next time I have a litter. Hopeful someone that has used it during whelping will let you know what amounts and when to use it. |
i'm glad shes doing better. i was reading about it too...so i bought some Calsorb too. hopefully Troy will wait for it as i would rather have it here when she decides to whelp. i think mine will he here saturday. |

when is her due date? |

I don't know when Ciara's due. When I got her in October she had supposedly just been in heat. So, when I saw blood on the wee wee pads January 9th I kept checking under Cookie. I had expected Cookie to be in heat in February. I hadn't expected Ciara to be in heat before April. I was beginning to think somebody had a UTI and then there was blood on my pillow under where Ciara had been sleeping. By the time I realized that it was Ciara that was in heat, it was several days later. I started putting diapers on her, wraps on him and seperating them when I wasn't going to be there. I even took Caesar with me when I could. I was applauding myself for doing a good job of keeping them seperated, but in a few weeks I noticed that she was getting a pudgy belly. I kept telling myself it was my imagination, but it turns out it wasn't. Obviously I did too little too late. I never saw her in standing heat and she bled for 21 or 22 days. So I can only guess on her due date. I thought about Easter, but I noticed the babies moving several days ago and she has had milk for several days. |

we are in the same boat!! Troy only bleeds for like a day and it is so minimal if i'm not on my game and know when shes in heat i will miss it. she had her first heat in June. when she was 8 months and i was expecting another heat in Feb cause i figure it would be every 8 months... well she must have had it at the beginning of January end of Dec cause she is a lot further along than i thought to. i was thinking end of March beginning of April but the vet said sooner than that. so i'm playing the guessing game too. shes got milk and i can really feel the babies moving. isn't this nerve wrecking!!!??? |
