Another Warning about Scamming Breeders Thought I would share this, just in case. This just happened Thursday to a breeder I know. A guy called on Wednesday, wanted a pup on Friday for a gift. Had been searching for the "right" pup. Found him with her. He transferred money from his Credit Union on Thursday. She was a little leary about giving her information out, but her Banker told her it would be fine. The Breeder had him call her from the Credit Union and she talked to the lady, at the Credit Union, gave her the banking information. The Lady told her since it was after 2pm the transfer would occur on Friday. The Lady gave her a confirmation number, and hung up. She shipped on Friday, and had to leave at 5am to ship, too early to see if the money made it to her account before she shipped. She talked to him Friday morning, he got the pup, loved him, the surprise was great and everything seemed to have worked out. Needless to say, no money ever showed up in her account. Today, she is in tears! Called the guy, and now his phone is disconnected.... Now she is so worried about her puppy, out the money and even paid for the shipping. I send and receive wires all the time. But I do wait until the money is in my account before the puppy goes anywhere. Even if it ruins the surprise. And I ask lots of questions. I once had a guy ask for something similar to this, I started asking questions, he hung up.. LOL |
I am so sorry for your friend....and the puppy. Scammers just make me ill. |
That stinks! I hate scammers. :( |
I feel so bad for the breeder, I don't blame her for being so upset.........Sometimes we get so caught up in not wanting to appear "mean" or unkind that we ignore our gut feelings....I hope this never happens to her or anyone else again..... |
thanks for the warning. I would not have shipped him until the money was in my hand. but, I don't ship much anyway. |
That's aweful... The transaction seemed a little speedy..it seems like a breeder would want to take more time to get to know the buyer first and selling a puppy that is meant as a gift is never a good idea. |
Thats a down right shame... |
[QUOTE=MyFairLacy;1839062]QUOTE] I just had to say Your furbaby is soooooooo cute in her St Pattys day dress! |

Shes already gotten a couple of these scam letters. And she is so new to the internet. I dont ship puppies ever. They have to come meet me...sit for awhile and chat... If they dont care to do that. I dont care to sell them a puppy. I have had people drive hours and just last week my last puppy went on a plane WITH her new Mommy. And I talk to these people LOTs via emails and phone calls before I would even do that....lol Picky about my babies ! |
Flippin' SCAMMERS!!!!!:thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown |
How horrible for the breeder & the puppy! |
omg i feel so bad for your friend hun. i dont ever let a pup go until i have money in hand also just a safe practice... Hope she can get her money somehow... |
OMG.....I'm sorry your friend got scammed like this. And, I'm hoping she did file a report with the police.....this is a crime, theft and possibly bank fraud. I would at least get it on record with the police, even if she doesn't stand much chance of getting either the puppy or her money back. |
Oh Deb, I am sorry your friend has learned something like this in such a hard way.. I just cannot believe how little we can trust people any more..I do want to ask you.. was the puppy microchipped.. I can now see why breeders do microchipping prior to the puppy leaving them.. at least puppy could be tracked.. I would worry myself sick over my puppy also.. wondering where it is now. This thread just made me sick..sick of scammers. Also thanks for posting such a thread to help others. when your friend is so hurting.. maybe we can all learn something here today.. |
I had a problem with paying and never receiving the puppies I had paid for. This time last year I sent a lot of money through Western Union to two different people for two different dogs. Both were supposed to be shipped the day I paid for them and never were shipped. The bad part was both tried to get more money and when I said would not pay another penny until I received the dog they hung up on me. I sent the total price they asked for to begin with and then told me that the crate cost more than expected and was going to cost another $250 just for the crate. Yea right!!. I turned it in to the police and they told me I should have used paypal. duh. I know that now but at the time I was so happy I finally found a puppy that was perfect. I spent over $3000 on two puppies I never received and no money returned either. One said they shipped and a friend picked up from airport till I paid and I called the airport and was no such flight numbers even in the computers. I would highly make sure if you find a puppy you want go get it yourself and make sure you see it in person. I have learned my lesson and am very cautious. I do not take people to their work unless I know them personally. The two breeders I have delt with are good so far and have not found anything wrong as far as my research goes now. Just please be careful weather selling or buying. Make sure you ask all questions and do your research. Sorry I had to vent a little. Tracy :aimeeyork |
Oh my gosh - how horrible !!! People like that just ruin it for everyone. It makes us honest breeders have no choice but only accepting cash and paypal and harder on the honest buyers as well. |

I have been microchipping all my puppies for years now. I sure am hoping they are taking care of her puppy! |
Precious, just wanted to tell you that your aviatar makes me smile everytime I see it... How cute is that?? :D |
:thumbdown That makes me sick:mad: |
Lets just hope that whoever has the puppy now is a better furparent than he/she is a human being. Just unbelievable what some people will do... |
I am so sorry for you . I have been scammed one time , since this event , I don't let a puppy go if the new owner don't come to my home to pick him or her up . The worst part is not knowing if the pup receive good treatments , if he or she is happy . |
Since she talked to a Banker at the Credit Union and they gave her a confirmation number, shouldn't they have all legitimate information? Name, social security number, address, work info? Just a thought.... |
That is terrible! I feel bad for your friend :( |
Good luck to your friend. I hope she can get the puppy back. I have gotten two bad checks and got the pup back both times. One time was very hard, but when the police came to her house with me she willing gave the pup back. Any ways if they won't give it back in minnesota it is a lityable case and it could take months to even get to court. isn't it sad that a beating heart doesn't count for something they are treated like a stolen pair of shoes or pants. I micro chip ALWAYS now too. I have always paid cash for my dogs so I don't feel bad asking for cash. |

One scary thing is that they knew the ropes and knew what to say to ease her mind. Sounds like they have done this before! The sad update, is that she got his license number from the airlines (proof of ID) and he lives in a scary part of Los Angeles and the Detective doesn't even want to go there :( My heart breaks for her puppy!! |
