Myth. Some turn out to be non-allergenic, but it's a crap shoot as to which set of genes they are going to inherit. The poodle has a low allergen coat, but a lab does not...you can't be assured of what coat type will be passed on.

Why is there a need to "create" a non-allergenic dog when there are already numerous established non-allergenic breeds?

(And know that I completely understand your point/view and am NOT trying to jump you for it.:) Just stating my thoughts as well. )

  It's a complete 50/50 chance when you cross a shedding dog with a non-shedding dog. Some of these poodle mixes will be non-shedding, some low-shedding, and some highly-shedding. i've personally seen lab/poodle mixes that had curly nonshedding hair and lab/poodle mixes with long, straight shedding hair. These "labradoodles" are frequently turned over to shelters because people buy them thinking they will be non-shedding and they end up shedding. I think the whole "designer dog" thing is aweful no matter why it's being done...

LOL and labs aren't hyper?? Most I've seen sure are...the just get SO excited about everything (and I swear they feel no pain)

Yep, a lab doesn't grow out of the puppy stage for almost 2 years, I have one! And yes they are very strong! But if properly trained they are very gentle, intelligent and loving companions! All dogs are going to be a little hyper when they're young! Thats just them being a puppy!:p

Don't you think it would be nicer to help inform people without the sarcasm? Please read my other posts, and understand that it is NOT me getting a mixed dog, and I am just trying to soak up information to pass it on.

My guess from their site would be a westie poodle? Or a wheaten poodle? Who knows!

I know everyone is going to jump ALLL over me for this one, but I'm entitled to my own opinion, so here goes.

I am against cross-breeding dogs for "designer" reasons. However, Labradoodles and Goldendoodles or what ever they're called, I am ok with. For one reason- it makes them (sp?) and people who want a big dog are able to have them. They are not bred that way for "designer" reasons (for the majority) but for people who are allergic and want a large dog. Like my boss, his wife is allergic to animals, and he has a disabled 5 year old daughter. He can't get a poodle because they will be too small, and his daughter could fall on it or what not. He was looking into a labradoodle because labs are GREAT with kids and disabled people and, the poodle in it would make it ok for his wife.

I understand your thinking but look in the rescues... there are millions in there Why because they were not what they were said to be. non-allergenic You can not garuntee that a cross will be one thing or another..

They do come up with Funny names for the Mixes LOL

For the last time please everyone. I am not looking into getting a mixed "designer" dog what so ever. I have a full breed Yorkie (whom I rescued, I might ad!). I was just stating my opinion on how I understand why some people would want a Labradoodle and not for "desgner" reasons. Like I stated before, my boss was looking into them because of his disabled 5 year old and his dog allergic wife. I love to absorb information and I have EVERY intent to pass everything on to him!

I don't think that anyone was being rude or suggesting this dog was for you...you DID state that in your first post. People are just discussing the topic, not blaming or accusing anyone of anything.:)

I never said any one was being rude. Even the person a few posts above told me to rescue a dog. I just wanted to make it clear that it wasn't me that was thinking of adopting a mixed "designer" dog. Thats all. :)

I wasn't being sarcastic...It was a "laughing" because most labs I see are much more hyper than poodles. So I can only imagine lab/poodle mixes as being on the hyper side as well. It's always good to remember you can't always read tone through someone's posts so don't automatically assume someone is being rude

I don't know...I think they are silly and I pretty much refuse to say the "designer" names. I say lab/poodle mix or yorkie/poodle mix..
