I just spoke with a lady from the rescue who said Gus had his surgery today and the he came through it OK :) She added that it will be a few days before he's completely out of the woods and that they did some sort of test to see if it's the kind of shunt that can be remedied. Apparently there are two different kinds? Anyway, she's the lady that transported him on Sunday and she reports that he's a little love bug full of kisses! Keep praying for Baby Gus to make a full recovery. |
Baby Gus Update This is what is on Baby Gus' site: 3/5/08 ALL IS OK! Thank God! The surgery went well, he is on track and they are quite pleased. The next few days are critical and he needs to be watched closely. They will call me again in a few hours, I made him swear. He also stated due to the fact that he was asymptomatic upon arrival there he has an excellent chance of a full recovery. They also did a liver biopsy and it will be a few days before we know anything with that as to weather or not he has MVD. GAWD I am in tears and shaking all over. Please keep him in your prayers. |
Oh How sad:( Baby Gus is in our thoughts and prayers...So sorry all these babies have to go thru pain and suffering:( |

Baby Gus Update #2 3/7/08 Gus was discharged this afternoon and is on his way back to his foster home. :cheer: Will update more soon! |
Oh Dear God - those poor little dogs - I HATE that people breed indiscrimately and just do it for the FAST MONEY ! There should be more regulations but I'm sad to say - there probably won't ever be.....too bad some of these people don't have MANDATORY SPAY NEUTER per offense - What I mean is - 1f a dog is born with a KNOWN genetic problem that should be considered offense #1 - if ANOTHER is diagnosed - OFFENSE #2 - The 3rd would be 3 strikes and YOU'RE OUT !!! .... then they should be forced to spay/neuter - (Do I sound like a little Hitler here ? I hope not :) but there are NO consequences for these people !) it's just sickening the way some people breed and sell - it really is |

I just finished reading this thread and just when you think you're cried dry ... you aren't! I totally agree with Villette ... but changes & new laws will come too late for some. I just made a donation in memory of a rescue that we lost just about a month ago. His owner surrendered a sweet, sweet little 3 yr. old boy named Romeo. He said he was having to crate him 12+ hrs. a day due to his job and he had begun to pee in his crate. He said he was healthy and when we had him vet checked he did indeed "appear" to be healthy. Several people wanted to adopt him right away ... we are so thankful that we stuck to our policy ... they have to stay in foster for a minimum of two weeks. We have to know that we have learned every single thing about a rescue before we adopt it out. We want to make sure there aren't underlying health issues, behavior issues, etc. Thank God for our policy! A few days after Romeo began stealing hearts, he also began behavior that at first appeared to be electrocution ... no way that had happened. They were seziures and after several trips to the ER but before we could help him, he began seizing and they couldn't be stopped! It seems he was in the latter stages of LS and there was nothing we could do except let him go. Evidently the owner was just way too busy to notice the signs early on or perhaps he realized something was wrong and surrendered him to us .... either way, it was too late for sweet little Romeo, but it's certainly not too late for Baby Gus!! Thank you, Lee, for starting this thread and I want to thank Indiana Petite Paws Rescue for the wonderful work they are doing! Rescue is heartbreaking but successes like Baby Gus keep us trying! God bless you all! |
