grrrr... i'm really trying here
 

ok i'm expecting puppies in the very near future. hubby is not supporting me!! i'm trying to prepare and get set up and he is bumping my head on some many things. like all my whelping supplies. he says i don't need all that stuff. i just let him talk. and ignore him. he says i should leave her alone and let her do it by herself. i have researched and i KNOW this is a big no no. he told me that i don't need to research. i guess he thought i was just gonna do it without knowing what i'm doing. he claims to have been around dogs giving birth while growing up.... whatever. he said i don't need a x-ray. just because it is $75. he said the vet told me that i should get one to get more money. i need one so i will know if all the babies are out and i don't have to take her to the hospital to get any out. HEs the one that wanted to breed in the first place. before i wanted to. but he wanted to for the money. i want to cause i love these little babies. but hes not supporting me in the way i wanna do it. i should have known this was how it was gonna be cause its like this on everything. and i always wind up doing everything by myself. i'm just praying everything goes right and nothing comes up to where i have to use my "research" to prove him wrong... though it would be great to show him the research pays off but i really don't want anything to go wrong!!! ok i'm done venting!:mad:

Bless your heart. That just sucks! I used to be married to someone like that. The best thing to do is what you think is best. Hopefully he'll get over it. If he doesn't, too bad. What's done is done. My heart goes out to you. It's a sucky situation to be in.

Maybe you could print out some thing for him to read or send him links in an email. Would he go with you to the vet and have the vet explain things to him?

Seriously, when the time gets here and the pups are coming, you will be calm and cool knowing you did what you needed to do to prepare yourself. (And your girl will thank you!) You hubby who has joked the whole time and speant time harrassing you will probably faint, so you may want to add a pillow for his poor head to your supplies as well.:p
Just don't stress the mama and follow her lead. And tell your hubby to butt out if he can't stop being insensitive for 2 seconds! When it's all said and done, laugh at him and say "I told you so!"

There will be lots of people here to help if you need it. Just keep researching and honestly there are alot of things you can get that are not real expensive or things you can have on hand for emergencies. I am so glad my husband does not fight me on anything. I think I just got my third delivery of supplies from lambertvetsupply.com. Check out this website as it is wonderful and the prices are good. Some things I might insist upon having for sure would be some nutri drops, sterile lubricant, calsorb, and puppy formula. I prefer the probiotic puppy formula powder but there are many to choose from. Get some unwaxed dental floss to tie cords, a baby aspirator for clearing fluid, betadine for cords, cut up some towels in 12x12 pieces or I buy 18 white washclothes from walmart for $3 and use them to dry and clean off each puppy, and a heating pad for the whelping box after puppies are born. I consider these items to be a necessity if you are whelping. I also have hemostats, scissors, basically the whole nine yards. After reading the Myra Savant Harris whelping books and puppy critical care books I am also going to invest in an oxygen tank for deliveries and puppy care. I would just tell him that if you are going to do it you should only do it right. Why wait to see if it costs you the life of your dog or a puppy. My husband also built me beautiful whelping boxes with linoleum flooring for ease of cleanup. We have our puppies in our bedroom and lots of times we don't get much sleep for the first few weeks but we wouldn't have it any other way. :D Best of luck to you. Have him read a few of the threads on here where things went wrong and the people didn't have the supplies or knowledge needed and he might change his mind!

I couldve given birth at home, on my own, with no one there to help me. Some women are actually going back to doing that now. Even so, they would still prepare. I personally never would do it though :) . I could've never gotten any prenatel care at all, and my kids could've came out fine, but that wouldnt have been wise.
Sure mama is going to do most (if not all) of the work, but you do need to be prepared and you do need to be informed of what will happen and what COULD happen. Dogs have been doing this just as long as people, and they do it in the wild, but why tempt fate?

Hats off to you to stand up for your furkids.....That says to me you would also be a mom who would stand up for her kids. Isnt that what being a mom is all about?

let hubby know that yorkshire terriers are not like most breeds. they are in the high risk (like english bulldogs and pugs) for c-sections.
also tell your husband that the way he is acting is a perfect example of a "BACKYARD BREEDER". only for the money, not for the prenatal care, during and after care of the bitch.

If hubby doesn't want to spend the money on breeding supplies, what is he going to say if she needs a c-section?

I got my last baby from Shari(sweetsophia), and she rocks..! She's one fantastic breeder!!!

:thumbup: With people like you, she should ask all the questions she can.. everyone rally around and help her as much as possible.. make her knowledgable.. to the point that like you said, after it is over with.. he may thank his lucky a** all turned out ok... Men like this make me sick.. always having to belittle a wife to make themselves feel more powerful.. shame on him.. and you can do it alone, many have done a whelp alone. Although I am sure you would like support.. but if he acts this way, at time of whelping you really do not need his behavior..tell him there is no big dollars in having a litter.. when the vet bills and everything you need is overwith.. and many hours of your time.. he will soon see this..

Show him that post on how we had to break every sack..suction and swing every pup (11 of them) and tie every cord...Your right be prepared!
