How much does testing costs? I have a question for all of you that do the testing on your adults and puppies. How much does it cost to do testing on your pups? What kind of tests? |
every state, city is different by 100s of dollars. you need to contact your vet. |
Here is a thread I started a few weeks ago where some breeders responded to what tests they do http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=114403 Maybe you can contact some of them individually and ask what they typically pay. You can also contact your vet and ask about each test. I personally want to see these done: Full blood panel to check for health issues Bile Acid Test to check for liver shunt (as well as research far back in the lines to know all dogs are free for liver shunt) Check for Luxating Patellas -can be felt for by a vet, X-rays are better, OFA cleared is best Check hips for Legge Calve Perthes - pretty much same as above for LP eyes and ears checked and cleared to be normal (can be CERFed) Heart checked to make sure it is healthy and normal Knowledge of the pedigrees and offsping for any health problems such as diabetes, epilepsy, allergies, etc. |
LOL... Do anybody mind saying how much they had to pay and state their city and state? I know that it depends on many factors but if you can state the price you had to pay in your area maybe we all can get a feel about the prices in your area.... And it doesn't have to be exact. ... like, a little over $200 for this, $75 for that.... :) (you gotta love the smileys!) |
I'm not a breeder so I haven't had to do most of those tests, but I'll tell you prices of things I do know I'm in TX... Blood Panel (around $100) Bile Acid Test (around $80) Physical Exam ($30-$50) X-rays (varies a lot but usually around $80 a shot) Oh...in addition to the things I listed in my other post, dogs need to be tested for STDs such as Brucellosis. |
Well I just did a CBC & Vet scan 13 full panel, urinalysis & fecal check on Peanut and it was $169.68 including the office visit. I then had to do a Bile Acid test and was $68.52 and wasn't charged an office visit. This is in Miami, FL. I got a few other things done but didn't include it on the first total because they were optional. |
well, that isn't much... some breeders told me their testing came to over $500-$700 and they didn't live in Cali. That just goes to show that I need to see proof (not of prices but that they got them done) |
My vet is SUPER cheap compared to most!! I just took all 4 of my yorkies in for a full exam and to get rabies and yearly vaccs(parvo..distemper) and she only charged me $150 for all 4!!! How does this compare to everyone else? |

I know for a fact they didn't do any testing, but I am trying to just get an idea of how much everyone else pays for testing and what kind of testing so I know kind of what to expect and what they need done before breeding them. |

I would want both parents to be tested for everything on MyFairLacy's list plus a thyroid check and urinalysis. I am really not huge on the breeder testing the puppies for everything because that would be so much money and I think they are too young. Maybe a bile acid test and blood panel for the pups... I would also buy only from a breeders whose lines are clear of any serious problems. A bile acid test here is $77 (plus $28 hospitalization fee and $1.31 for food if you leave them and sometimes you have to). Urinalysis: $25 Exam: $38 Xray (one view) $80 Blood panel and CBC: $100 I woule expect to pay between $400-$800 for testing on one adult at Ellie's vet. |

They charge you $28.00 hospitalization....wow....I was ready to take P home and the vet told me to leave him because they were going to feed him in 2 hrs. they did charge me for the food....but the 2 hr stay was included in the $68.52 charge for the BA test. It's amazing how much $$$ varies from state to state. |

Yes, it cost $28 for her to sit in a cage by herself for two hours. Because she is allergic to their food, she now gets to come home in between.:) |
